Verbs Made Simple

To help people who are thinking about learning Japanese I have created this hub in Japanese verb tense.

Verbs

Wakarimasu: Understand Wakarimashita: Understood

Tabemasu: Eat Tabemashita: Ate

Hashirimasu: Run Hashirimashita: Ran

Nomimasu: Drink Nomimashita: Drank

Noborimasu: Climb Noborimashita: Climbed

When you want to say 'let's and then the verb the word changes again. For example:

Wakarimashoo: Let's understand

Tabemashoo: Let's eat

Hashirimashoo: Let's run

Nomimashoo: Let's drink

Noborimashoo: Let's climb

Verbs are important but don't forget about nouns too. I also have another page here with some tips too: Japanese Learning Software

A Glance at Japanese Grammar

With English things are a little different than Japanese when it comes to sentence structure. The verb is in the middle between the object of the sentence and the subject.

Let's have a quick look shall we at what I mean:

Take the sentence: "I am Sarah"

Here the sentence structure is: Subject (I), Verb (am), Object (Sarah)

When speaking Japanese this sentence would be " Watashi Wa Sarah Desu"

This literally is "I Sarah is" in English

As you can see the structure becomes: Subject, Object, Verb OR I, Sarah, Is.

I hope you enjoyed learning some basic verbs!! I learned alot from Sayaka Matsuura a big thanks to her for her Japanese coaching.

All the best,

Matt
