Recently, I photographed Jenny and Eric’s amazing wedding at Vizcaya in Miami. In case you’re into football, Eric might look familiar to you – he plays football for the Houston Texans (yes NFL!!) The first thing that Jenny told me when I arrived was that Eric would be the biggest guy in the room! I had never met Eric in person before, and when I did everything made sense! He definitely looked like a football player! Jenny, on the other hand, was much more dainty in stature and was simply aglow on her wedding day. Jenny and Eric’s Vizcaya wedding was truly one to remember!

This magical Vizcaya wedding was perfectly planned by Leslie and Rudy Rowe of One Moment in Time, Inc., Miami’s premier Design and Décor company. Visit their website at: www.onemomentintimeinc.com The food was expertly prepared by the renowned Miami caterer, Bill Hansen Catering, www.billhansencatering.com. The spectacular wedding cake was the work of Ana Paz, a leading cake creator and designer in South Florida.

For those who aren’t familiar with Vizcaya, it was built in 1916 by agricultural industrialist James Deering. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens features a main house, ten acres of formal gardens, a hardwood hammock and, according to their website, a soon to be restored a historic village. As a South Florida wedding photographer, I think Vizcaya is one of the most unique and beautiful places to photograph a wedding. Even for engagement shoots, Vizcaya has so many really amazing areas to shoot against, there is never enough time to capture it all. Vizcaya’s strong European feel really gives one the sense that you are in a country like France or Italy. The elaborate gardens and unique architecture render Vizcaya a one of a kind location for South Florida wedding photography.

This wedding is also notable as the groom is a well-known pro football player for the NFL. After playing college football for the Miami Hurricanes, Eric was drafted in the third round of the 2006 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. He played in 12 games as a rookie and then in 2007 he started all 16 games for Houston. Eric is entering his 4th season in the league this year. He is listed at 6’7” and 310 pounds (big player!)

There’s no doubt that as a South Florida wedding venue, Vizcaya is one of the grandest and most picturesque sites. A big thank you to Jenny and Eric for having me there to photograph their special day at this amazing location.

  • Ashley and Tom’s Fort Lauderdale Engagement Shoot

The moment I mentioned Fort Lauderdale's River Walk area to Ashley as a location possibility for her engagement shoot, the place instantly appealed to her. She wanted a spot with water in the background, but not necessarily the beach. She wanted some structures around, but not tall office buildings. River Walk turned out to be the perfect spot. As a South Florida photographer I have done engagement shoots in many different locations – most notably beach areas, Vizcaya, the Morikami – places like that. Every once in a while, a client really wants to do their engagement shoot somewhere a little different – like the River Walk. What is so wonderful about this location is not only the waterway that runs behind it, but the quaint feeling the buildings all around provide. Right in the center of Fort Lauderdale, the River Walk is a park like setting with trees, benches and a pretty gazebo. There's also a large pavilion in the Esplanade which is often used for wedding ceremonies. The varied elements here allow for some terrific shots as you will see here. Ashley and Tom were thrilled with the location and enthusiastic about trying all kinds of fun shots as we walked through the area.We had a great time with this engagement shoot and I am thoroughly looking forward to photographing Ashley and Tom's upcoming South Florida wedding this April at Mizner Country Club. - 4 weeks ago
