Jesus Teachings; No Different Than the Old Testament

Jesus Teachings
Good evening. When we take a good look at the Word of God we can clearly see a couple of things without anyone arguing over it; we see that Jesus cosigned with nearly everything taught by the prophets and many people do not take the moment to think clearly why that is. I want to briefly talk about Jesus teachings, and show they are no different than what is taught in the Old Testament. A lesson like this is simple yet very important so that we get away from separating the testaments as if they are two different books, from two different Gods.
Let’s began at St. John 10 v30
30-I and my Father are one.
Jesus tells the people that He and the Father are one. They are not literally one being; but one in the same. They are on one page. They agree all the time, they think the same, and they are on one accord. With this simple fact established, they could not have written two separate books, one teaching to keep the commandments or be stone, and the other teaching to love and that the commandments are done!
So let’s take a look at some of the teachings of Jesus and let’s see if they coincide with the prophets or if Jesus had a different agenda than the God of the Old Testament.
In Mark 10 v1-4 the Pharisees attempted to catch Jesus on the divorce issue and Jesus settled the score, even though the US statistics concerning divorce do not seem as He did, certainly not in Hollywood; but let’s look at Jesus teachings:
5And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
The reason Moses allowed divorce was because the men were horribly abusive to their wives and the lesser evil was to let them divorce rather than eventually killing the spouse. But what we are after is what Jesus said in verse six on down that from the beginning of the creation God made male and female, a man should leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife and be one flesh. Thus what God joined; let NO MAN take apart. That goes for His laws too brothers and sisters in Christ.
We’re going to find that out before we end. Because He put the laws together, so no man can take them apart.
Let’s go see what the Old Testament or prophets wrote about on this teaching. Let’s go to Genesis
Genesis 1
1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
This is the beginning as Jesus said to the Pharisees…okay
Genesis 2 now
22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Sounds like Moses hit it on the head; so good that Jesus, the “founder of Christianity” agreed to it and taught it. If you visit Malachi chapter 2 verse 14-16 you’d see that God hates men treating their wives bad and worse than that God hates divorce, and the God of Israel asked a question, He ask, ‘didn’t I make them One in the beginning?’
That is what Jesus teaching was about. It’s no different than the Old Testament prophets. Let’s get another quick example.
Luke 6 verse 5
5And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
Jesus said with His own mouth that He is the Lord or Master of the Sabbath. If we go to Genesis chapter 2 verse 2-3 God ended His work, sanctified the seventh day, which is the Sabbath day of the Lord, and rested. So let’s see what day Jesus kept as the Sabbath day.
Luke 4
15And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
His custom was to go into the synagogue or the church on the Sabbath day and stood up and read to the people the book of Isaiah and I’m sure other books of the Old Testament; but He kept the Sabbath day. Let’s go and see why…
Exodus 31 and began at verse 17
15Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
The Sabbath rest and worship is a divine order that the God of Heaven set up. It is as ‘iron clad’ as the law of gravity. But the most important thing is that it is a SIGN between God and His people forever. If your wife wears a wedding ring, it is because it is a sign for others to know she is married and a sign between you and her of your covenant forever and vice versa for males.
Jesus kept and taught on the Sabbath, even taught us the real way to keep it, not muzzled down like the Pharisees tried to do to people but that it’s a peaceful, restful, joyous, happy day that we should keep Holy. It’s no different than the prophets wrote, than from what Jesus taught.
Luke 4 verse 1-12 Jesus quoted the prophets as He rebuked the devil during His temptation.
Let’s get one last teaching of Jesus that reflects the Old Testament. Let’s go to Matthew 5 and began reading at verse 17
17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Do not think that Jesus came to destroy the law or in our modern day talk, don’t think that Jesus hanged the laws on the cross. He did not come to destroy the laws but to fulfill them.
18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
In truth, till heaven and earth pass, not one jot of the law will pass till all be fulfilled. WAIT A MINUTE, till all be fulfilled! Really quick let us rush over to Revelation 19 and began at verse 11
11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Jesus Christ Teachings Cont
Has this happened yet? Then not all has been fulfilled, right? That means the laws are still enforced and active. Do you see how simple the Word of God is?
Let’s go back to Matthew 5 and pick it up at verse 19
Because now we know that heaven and earth has to pass and all must be fulfilled before the tiniest part of the law will be voided.
19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Now Jesus teachings says who ever out there breaks the least commandment, like steal a pack of lemon head candies repeatedly, and whoever out there who teaches others to break the commandments will be least in the kingdom of heaven, but those who keep the law and teach others to do the same will be great in the kingdom of heaven.
The great in the kingdom is living forever with the Lord. Least in the kingdom is what people call hell, but it is really the lake of fire, or even the second death (Revelation 20 v14). It’s a death and it’s evil. Let’s see if that is something new that Jesus taught or was it also from the old testaments.
Deuteronomy 30
15See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
God set before the people life and good, and death and evil. Let’s see what life and good is.
16In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
Keeping God’s commandments found in Exodus 20 is life and good; and it comes with a great reward to live in the land blessed. Let’s see what death and evil is…
17But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
19I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live:
Death and evil is not keeping the commandments and doing whatever lust or evil that comes upon your heart; He said you will perish, or you’ll be least in the kingdom.
20That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
So God advises we keep His commandments and live that we may live and be great in the kingdom.
Let’s end like we began, let’s go to Deuteronomy 6
And began at verse 4
4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
The Lord our God is ONE LORD – St. John 10 verse 30 “I and my Father are One”
If God is one Lord; then they can’t have two different teachings. They must have one teaching. So if the God of the old testament taught that you must observe the seventh day of the week, then Jesus is going to go along with the seventh day as He did and taught customarily; being that He does not change (Malachi 3 v6 & Hebrews 13 v8). They both don’t change either.
If the God of the Old Testament separated clean and unclean animals; Jesus cosigns that. If the God of the Old Testament wants to come to the earth forever, Jesus teachings reflects that as well (Luke 1 v 33 & Rev 21 v2) in the kingdom being on the earth and not in heaven. They must agree because they are One.
5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And we are to love the Lord our God. Now the biggest mystery or twist to a story is finding out the most bizarre ending that makes you think on and on, on the twist. This is the big twist here…
1 Corinthians 10 and began reading at verse 1
1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
Paul does not want us to be ignorant that the fathers were under the cloud and passed through the sea, referring to when Moses and the children of Israel as they left Egypt. We know that God led them out of Egypt with a strong hand.
Paul let’s us know that all the people were baptized unto Moses, because Moses was the intercessor. They all ate the same spiritual meat and drink; the spiritual meat and drink is the Word of God, the laws Moses gave them, the statues, and ordinances, those are the spiritual food.
And the spiritual Rock that led them out of Egypt was Christ, the Messiah, we know as Jesus. WHAT? That is the be twist. That the God of Israel, the God of Heaven, the God of the old testament was and is Jesus Christ Himself. So we can see and understand that Jesus teachings were indeed no different than the Old Testament and prophets.
I surely hope this lesson is edifying to you in Jesus name. I love sharing the Word of God to all brothers and sisters in Christ. Some of these readings, that is the scripture may be shocking to you or new to you if you have not closely read the bible; however, I encourage you to continue to read the Word of God, read it with your own bible, keep an open mind and learn this for yourself.
Thank you for reading Jesus teachings; no different than the Old Testament, lesson, feel free to leave comments and questions and have a great day in the name of our Lord JESUS Christ!
