An aticle of enhancing ones beauty :

Though the style or materials may have changed, the concept of jewelry has been around for centuries. You can string a shell on a thread and wear it around your neck and call it jewelry, while a multimillion dollar diamond around your neck can also be called jewelry. Jewelry of any kind will fulfill one purpose; being an ornament to enhance the beauty of the person wearing it.

Keeping that purpose in mind, we can say it is difficult to decide what jewelry to buy and to wear. The designs and styles change from time to time but the basic idea remains the same. Traditionally when someone speaks of jewelry you think of gold, but now you can get not only the traditional Yellow Gold but White Gold as well. Besides Gold, Silver jewelry has become popular too, because it is cheaper and sturdier than soft Gold to maintain the intricate designs of the jewelry. Many diamond jewelry pieces are made in much more expensive Platinum and the newest metal on the market Palladium.

Jewelry is more than just metal

Now that you have got some idea of the metal used in creating jewelry, lets talk about some other objects that can be used to enhance a piece of jewlery. Most common are stones - naturally occurring, many are mined, cleaned, and processed to bring out thier beauty. Some if the more common are diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, jade, onyx. During this time, technology is so advanced that you can get all of these man-made in a lab, at a fraction of the original price. On of the most famous is Cubic Zirconium as a replacement for Diamond. They come in all different shapes and sizes, same as real dimonds. Another popular decoration in jewelry is Pearls. Same as the other stones, even pearls come in a cheaper imitation at a much lower cost.

One of the deciding factors

The metal used in creating any jewelry can not only be yellow and silver but red and black too. For our purpose lets say you are deciding between yellow or white gold or silver - what do you buy? Well here is a easy solution. Generally cool skin colors look terrific in silver tones which mean silver or white gold, look much better on these skin tones than yellow gold. If you aren't sure what skin tone you are look at the visible veins and if they have a blue tint rather than a pink tint you will look fantastic in white gold or silver jewelry.

More Choices

Another type of jewelry that has become popular is designer name jewelry. You will find a wide range of materials and prices for designer jewelry. Some brand names are Tiffany, Channel, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana. These companies market this type of jewelry get away charging the high prices due to their status of being a brand name rather than the actual quality of the jewelry.

Costume jewlery is another low cost alternative to real gold, silver or any precious metal jewelry, with all simulated or fake imitation gems, stones or colored plastic for decoration. There is nothing wrong with this kind of jewelry. Some times you may even want this cheaper version of jewelry, like when you are traveling and don't want to carry your real jewelry, but still want to look fabulous.

The Deciding Factor

With that many choices of base metals, stones, natural gems, pearls..... and so many more decorating articles it is very hard to decide what to get. Your main deciding factor will be your budget. How much you want to spend on your jewelry will determine what you buy. In other words, if you really want a diamond, you can get a cubic zarconium and still look just as wonderful as you would if you were wearing a ridiculously expensive clear rock. If you are looking for a low cost but quality jewelry you can get silver instead of white gold or get silver with gold plated for a yellow gold look.
