77Displays that High-Light Matching Necklace and Earring Sets
Sometimes, there are some lovely, unique displays that work wonderfully for matching sets. This hub will focus on display option for just that subgroup of designs.
"Mona Lisa" Display: OK, well, maybe not Mona Lisa, but the name sounds great! Take a picture or photo and get it to basically life-size, then mount it on cardboard. (it will look even nicer if you decorate the back with some printed paper, wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, etc). Add extra cardboard sections on the back so it will stand like a photo frame. Pierce the display so you can slide your necklace chain thru and clasp it behind the photo---you want the length in the front to drape across the lady's neck approximately where it would be on the wearer. Then "pierce" the ear(s) and add the earring. If you make vintage pieces, use vintage photos or scans of paintings. If you make punk pieces, use pictures of rockers. For high glamor pieces, use photos of prom girls or women at gala events. You can add a bracelet if your photo includes the woman's hand. You can also wrap a real scarf around the photo, add a brooch to the photo, or tilt a hat from top. All this draws the potential buyer's eye to the display. This can really highlight your piece.
Pegboard Example: Creations by Jae
Pegboard
A fellow jewelry designer and member of the eSMArts Social Marketing Artisans team told me about her display. This is a very very flexible display, allowing you to mix and match items by color, price, or component. By using pegboard you can also stagger items and have many things at eye level, something that can be difficult when you confine your displays to tabletops.
Creationsbyjae painted the pegboard a neutral color. Some items are stored in locked bags with holes so they can hang from a single peg. Other pieces hang directly for single or double pegs.
Matching Sets of Jewelry Displays
If you package/box your sets for sale, I would recommend some way that keeps the earrings and necklace so they all show. Either display your necklace in a circle or oval and insert the earrings inside that area, or show the necklace focal point with earrings on either side (usually beside the pendant). This way, the customer can see the set and how they complement each other.
MULTIPLE MATCHING EARRINGS: One thing that might make your display a bit more difficult is if you design more than 1 pair of earrings that can match a necklace. For example, I tend to like longer or larger earrings, so my first match may be exactly that. However, I know not everyone will want their earrings that large, so, if I have more components, I might make a few extra pair in similar, but varying sizes of options. You have some choices to make:
First, you can display the necklace and around the display, hang 2 or 3 sets of earrings, and offer the buyer "choice;" then the other 2 become extra earrings to sell once the necklace is sold. However, invarably someone will want to buy just one of your extra pair of earrings, so you do need to decide in advance how you will handle that.
Second, you can price them all separately, but on the necklace note earrings are available and then show them the options you have made. Perhaps offer a bit of a discount if they purchase earrings and the necklace, since you now have separate pieces.
A Head of the Crowd
A Head for your Necklace and Earrings
A great way to display a matching set is to use wig stands, those stryofoam heads (even a nice kid's make-up "Barbie" style head would work). With careful skill with a needle, you can pierce the ear of the styrofoam for your earrings and the necklace can drape around the base.
Be creative, add a wig, or a turban or scarf wrap to complete the ensemble. AND, I'd really advise giving each a name---put a small nameplate-style name on the bottom of the stand. She can be a great topic of conversation as people walk up to your booth, even talking about what her tastes are, what she likes, etc.
Have fun and make your design stand out!
