I will be 50 years old this year. And over the course of my professional life, I have a number of people I consider mentors. Some actually know me and know they have mentored me. Some I have never even met, but their teachings mean so much to me and I try to model myself from their teachings.

Moe was my first "boss" after I graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in electrical engineering. He taught me to apply logical reasoning and to trust my technical instincts. At the time, he was an expert in our field and respected across the community we worked. He taught me so much. He is retired now and will probably never read this, but thank you Moe. You taught me so many things, not the least of which you taught me to trust and respect myself.

John S, my first boss when I became a manager of engineers. Wow! John, you taught me another side of engineering. You put your trust in me to make good decisions and showed me how to trust those who worked for me. (You also taught me the value of HR!) You always knew what and who to trust. You just knew. You have an intuitive side I don't even think you acknowledge. This only taught me to trust my own intuition when it came to people. Thank you.

Tony Robbins, you are my life coach. What more can anyone say. Your teachings apply to every aspect of life. You help me balance myself and my life.

Tim Sales. I love your teachings and you don't even know me! You teach the nuts and bolts of direct sales. You make it make sense and you make it simple. You do it with so much respect for your prospects, your customers, and your team. That's what makes your teachings resonate with me. You're the best!

And finally, Jim Rohn. Your common sense and relaxed teachings are amazing. How many copies of "Building Your Network Marketing Business" have I given away? I can't even count. I've probably paid for your retirement buying more copies of this phenomenal cd than you will ever know.

When I am down, whether it's a personal thing or business, there are two cd's I listen to. First of all, music. The Barenaked Ladies always improve my attitude, especially when I listen to "Another Postcard." I can't listen to that song and not smile! And the next thing I know, I'm dancing! Once I start smiling and dancing, my spirit lifts and then I can engage my mind. That's when I start listening to Jim Rohn. That's when Jim gets my head and my actions back into the game.

And I have been down lately. It's been a rough year so far. My "day time" job is running me ragged. Too much to do, too little time, too much travel, and not enough appreciation. Normal stuff. On top of that, my 79 year old mother's health is declining. So that is weighing on me. More to do, more to think about, more responsibility, more guilt. Consequently, my MLM business is suffering. Apathy, procrastination, just plan laziness are getting the better of me at a time when I should be working even more diligently.

But tonight, I got a message from my mentor, Jim Rohn. It was like a sign to get back to work!

I subscribe to Jim's Ezine. Tonight as I was preparing for yet another briefing, at yet another location for my day time job, while trying to make sure my mother's blood sugar was in fact not 501 but 105 and her medications for the week were all in order and all the appropriate people know all the appropriate things, I received my weekly Jim Rohn Ezine. And guess what! Tonight, Jim wrote about the power of attraction in marketing your MLM business.

As I mentioned above, talk about perfect timing. It was like a sign from above. A sign for me to get back to work. An affirmation that attraction marketing is going mainstream. Now is not the time to slack off.

When asked how a person can get more opportunities in their life and their business, Jim answered that if you want more opportunities, you have to attract them. This is absolutely the key to attraction marketing that the Renegade University teaches. Once again, my mentor, Jim Rohn is on track with the times. His Ezine article validated to me that The Renegade University is teaching the right philosophy, the right information, and at the right time.

Jim teaches many principles and philosophies that are integral to attraction marketing. But once you understand these principles, how do you incorporate them into your business? How do you use these teachings to market your business? Where do you go to learn the nuts and bolts to put it into practice? The Renegade University may supply the answer to these questions. Once you understand the principles of attraction marketing, the Renegade System teaches you how to leverage these principles using documented internet marketing skills and tools.

The Renegade System takes you step-by-step, click-by-click through tools and internet resources that give you the capability to provide meaningful, valuable information to people who are looking for the information you have to offer. The Renegade can teach anyone how to share the benefit of their knowledge and experience to other potential direct sales professionals. And once you establish yourself as an expert and a mentor, you become "attractive" and people will want to follow you. Instead of chasing your prospects, your prospects will come to you.

The bottom line, is attraction marketing, which is an extension of the laws of attraction discussed in the book and movie "The Secret" has arrived. It makes sense. And now that MLM gurus like Jim Rohn are talking about it, it will be catapulted into the mainstream of network marketing at an accelerated rate. So I encourage everyone to be part of the leading edge of this wave of attraction marketing. Get in front of it and become a part of the wave, before it washes over you and you find yourself chasing it.

  • Character Always Counts

I subscribe to a number of Ezines and have learned a great deal from so many of the great mentors and leaders of our time through their weekly rants. As I was reading Chris Widener's 7 May article #3 The Last Word... I was struck by how much I agree with his take on leadership. The article is  Chris's answer to a question he was asked at one of his seminars. How can a person increase their sphere of influence. Chris states that in study after study, it is shown that people chose to follow other people based on two simple characteristics:  skill and character. I suspect that very few people want to follow a person who demonstrates incompetence! So it only makes sense that leaders need to be quite good at what they do. In life, we are constantly working to improve ourselves. That applies to all areas of our lives whether it is professionally, personally, spiritually or physically. We tend to gravitate to those who we perceive we can learn from. When we work or play side by side with someone whose skills exceed our own, we find ourselves performing at a higher level. We learn from that other person's skills. Even if they don't realize they are teaching, we learn because we are watching, replicating, and trying to improve. We challenge ourselves to perform as well as (or better than) the "expert" so that some day we will be the expert. But regardless how skilled a person is, I believe character is even more important. We will follow a skilled person until we learn everything we can learn from that person. But if they do not have integrity, we will not continue to follow once we have learned all we can learn through their expertise. If that experienced person also has good character and we feel we can trust them to deal with others with integrity and respect, we will continue to follow or at least be positively influenced by the expert even if we have learned all the skills they have to teach. In fact, I have observed (at least within myself!), that frequently a person with integrity does not have to have the same level of expertise as a person without integrity to be able to influence others. People want to follow people with integrity and character. So if you aspire to be a leader, remember that character definitely counts. You will always be working to increase your competency and skill. People will respect you for your efforts and forgive you for not knowing everything. But they may not forgive you for a lapse in integrity - even if you only demonstrate it one time. - 5 months ago

  • Integrity is Essential to Your Direct Sales Business

I recently wrote an article regarding integrity entitled: "Network Marketing and the Importance of Integrity." In this article I tell the reader that it is important that they understand what they believe in and then practice those beliefs. That is what leads to building powerful integrity. The nature of the network marketing business can lead people to forget the basics of a life of integrity. I believe that is based on two basic truths of the network marketing business:     1. Duplication. Because we are taught duplication, duplication, duplication, we don't question what we are being taught to duplicate! We aren't being taught to think, we are being taught to follow the leader. Which is OK, if we are being taught ethical principles.     2. Network Marketing businesses are often presented as easy, get-rich-quick opportunities. The lure of easy money tends to make all of us forget to ask ourselves if we are applying ethical principles to our behavior. And, regrettably, it can sometimes attract less than ethical people to the business to begin with. Therefore, it is so very important that we all know with certainty what we believe in and that we apply those beliefs to our every day business activities. We constantly need to be asking ourselves, "Is this right? and, Is this a behavior I want to be associated with?" If we can answer "yes" to these two questions, then we are living with integrity. When we are conducting our business with integrity, then we become leaders that prospects will want to follow. Isn't that what attraction marketing is about? Please read my article and let me know what you think. - 6 months ago

  • Trust Or Respect? Pick One!

Have you ever thought about the difference between trust and respect and the relationship between the two?  Trust. According to dictionary.com, trust is defined as: "reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence." Your friends trust you. They trust you because they know you. They have observed how you behave in many social and sometimes professional situations. They know what you value and they know what you care about. They also know that you value them and their friendship.  Respect. Dictionary.com defines respect as: "esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability: I have great respect for her judgment."  We respect people we work with because we see how they manage their work and how they behave at work. We know what they can accomplish because of their accomplishments and because of the effectiveness of their efforts at work.  When we meet a new person, whether it's at work or in our personal lives, we do not necessarily trust them. Trust takes time to develop. But we do respect them. We take it on faith they are accomplished in their field. Over time, we learn to trust. Over time, we may lose respect!  So consider this. Our friends trust us, but they don't respect us. People we just met respect us, but they don't trust us.  Apply this knowledge to your network marketing business, and you will understand why it works they way it does! Your friends know you aren't an "expert" when you start a new mlm business. That makes it so much more important for you to become an expert . You need to learn everything you can, build success, and become an expert. The Renegade Network Marketer is a system to help you build an internet presence and thereby promote yourself as an expert.  And once you have established yourself as an expert, who knows... maybe your friends will start to respect you!    - 6 months ago
