Job Hunting As A Ex-Convict or Ex-Felon
Hello, I have written a few hubs of my years growing up and now want to try to do this hub. I am an ex-convict or ex-felon, however way you want to call it. I have made a few mistakes in my life, and dearly paid my dues. No, I did not kill rob or rape anyone. I was originally sent to state prison when I was 18 years old because I beat up 2 police officers who was bad mouthing my date and I warned them that if they did not stop, that I would get out and stomp their behinds. I served 6 years in the California prison system, my mom died while I was doing time. I studied alot, trying to make a better man out of myself, while I was locked up, made myself a smarter man. I was released in 1990 and went about making a better life for myself. I did my parole with no problems, even got an early discharge. In 1997 I got married, was a hard working man, became a father to a beautiful daughter, life was looking good. went to vocational rehab to learn about world of computers and internet. Landed a good paying job with Ameica OnLine. I got real good with computers. When they closed the call center, I went and opened a 501 (c) non profit animal rescue, amd became one of New Mexico's Largest no-killl animal rescue. I did alot of research and work on the internet and in 1999, our home was raided by the FBI because they said I violated Fedral law on the internet, and instead of getting the pardon from California, I ended up being convicted for internet crimes and did not know I was violating federal law but I had to pay the price. This was my first time in my life I ever went to a federal prison. I did my time, got out, went to a truck driving School to have a new career. I did very well, top of my class when I graduated. Then I experienced the wondeful worlf og job hunting to no avail. No matter where or what I was applying for, I was turned away because of the background checks they now do because of 9/11. I graduated in 2007 abd I still can not get a job, not even a job flipping burgers. No wonder so many end up going back to prison because they have no way of getting a job. I have not givin up yet, I almost have my home paid for, trying to keep it from being repoed, already had my car repoed so I got to ask, How long must I continue to pay my debt for something I did not even realized I had done? Is it fair? No. It is not.

What Do You Think?
Thanks for sharing this, good hub. It reminds of a song called 'one last chance', by Jimmy Wayne I think it's the guys name, but it's about a guy who got into the drug scene, got arrested his wife moved his son as far away as she could and started over and when he's released from prison, he cannot catch a break.
Society is far too easy to give up on people, they think that if you've been to prison, once you are destined to go back. Good luck in keeping your life straight Cowboy. And good luck with your shelter!!!

I strongly urge you to try and get your other hubs published in a book. I read lots of autobiographies, but yours has really stayed with me.
I think if you applied the same writing technique to this hub that you did with the others you could have quite a good hub.
It is aweful that you have had to go through what you have, but somehow you keep pushing through it all. Your story... you strength... is very inspirational.
