Jobs In San Antonio

According to a recent news report, jobs in San Antonio are on the rise. Perhaps you are contemplating a move to San Antonio. San Antonio jobs are abundant and more employees are needed per a news report dated March 10, 2009 found on MYSA.com.

Out of the entire United States, San Antonio is ranking number five which means we are the fifth best labor market in the country for the second quarter of 2009. Wow!

Most of these jobs will be in health care, information technology, and hospitality.

Six percent of  employers in San Antonio are expecting to cut jobs in the second quarter of 2009 but an additional 21% of employers here expect to hire additional employees so this is a major improvement over the predictions for the first quarter of 2009.

We had a lot of customer service jobs here in San Antonio, but those have been scaled way back compared to the past 10 years. With the economic turndown that began in 2008, we have seen a lot of companies either closing here or laying off hundreds of employees at a time. Customer service employers have shut their doors or moved to other locations in the United States.

If you speak Spanish, it is a different story. There are job fairs going on for customer service jobs here in San Antonio, if you speak Spanish. So, if you are fluent in Spanish, Customer Service jobs in San Antonio are abundant.

The classified ads are always filled with health care jobs. If you are a nurse, you are in high demand almost anywhere. Hospitals here pay thousands of dollars as a sign-on bonus when you agree to work for them. Several new hospitals have been built over the past few years and more are in the construction phase now.

We have a lot of tourists in San Antonio throughout the year and to take care of them, motels, hotels, and restaurants are always hiring, especially for the summers.

The area theme parks close in December and reopen in March and each January and February, there are job fairs held to find employees to do everything in these parks to make visitors comfortable.

Construction jobs in San Antonio are abundant as new houses are being built all over. There are three different housing developments going up by my neighborhood. Our house has been here for eight years and the construction has not stopped. Also, new shopping centers, theaters, hotels, restaurants, and office buildings keep going up as the city continues to expand.

Listed below are some of the biggest employers in San Antonio:

Valero

Frost National Bank

USAA (I have tried for 10 years to get on with them, but have not even gotten a call from them and I have been in the insurance industry since 1981!)

Northside Independent School District is the largest school district in the city and each year, they hire more new teachers than any other. They build several new schools each year. Teachers here get paid great, even though they say they don't. First year teachers are starting out at $46,000 a year and that is a whole lot more than I have ever made! Plus they only work not even nine months out of the year!

Transcom Call Center

A brand new employer to San Antonio as of September 2009 is Transcom. Transcom is a Canadian-based company moving some of their operations to the United States. My husband and son just got jobs there. The client that Transcom is servicing in the San Antonio office is Comcast. They will take care of orders and servicing for Comcast phones, cable TV, and internet service. Right now Transcom is hiring hundreds of people as they are looking to expand their call center big time which will start taking live calls this week on October 22, 2009.

Transcom is opening a 65,000-square-foot facility at 6660 First Park Ten Blvd. at the Tech center. This is a global outsourced services company. The company operates 75 customer contact centers worldwide. Transcom was founded in 1995 and currently employs 21,000 workers. San Antonio is only the third American office and my husband has been with them now for three weeks, training. This company offers a good starting wage for San Antonio and promises lots of hours with shifts around the clock. Apply today online or in person.
