Internet Jobs for Mom...
87and Dad too...
As if being a parent isn't hard enough. The stress parents go through daily is enough to qualify us as super humans! I might say some things that a lot of men and woman will disagree with strongly but from my perspective and how I feel about being a mother and my place in society. I feel very strongly for the position I choose and what I support.
Before the sun even nears the horizon I am up making my partner coffee, packing his lunch and making sure he has a good start to the day. While drinking my coffee I check my comments and how much money I have made the previous day on HubPages while formulating in my mind what I am going to write about for the day and hopefully not getting side tracked on the forums.
At about 7:00 my kid wakes up, I get her dressed while finishing my coffee, making her breakfast, getting her teeth and hair brushed, and then cleaning the dishes. All the while trying to get her to stop asking for chocolate, trying to avoid a tantrum, finding a good time to get in the shower, bush my own teeth and hair, changing the dogs water and getting her some food. Sometimes I even have to make my dog breakfast.
From then I get my kid and my dog ready for a walk while searching for something to scoop the doo doo up with all the while both my dog and daughter are impatiently waiting for me at the door. We go out for our morning walk, when we get back I finish the laundry, pull something out for dinner and tell my kid to "kick dirt" and go play.
Then I come to HubPages and start writing my next hub between 10:00 am and noon, again hopefully not becoming side tracked by the forums. I search the internet for information just as I would for any other job, I map out the "feel" for it and get started.
While I would love to devote every moment of my life to my kid I also know that my partner needs help too. We are at a crazy time in life where it is a bit harder to make ends meet and I am very familiar with this at the moment. I would also like to be able to get something special for him because of all the hard work he does just for us and at the same time I need to fulfill my own desire to write, as I am a writer and be mother and homemaker. It would certainly be easy to just hire a babysitter and do a 9-5 which would leave me completely unfulfilled because what would I gain from it?
Some time away from my kid. Sure, I need that too sometimes but nonetheless she is my kid and I love to be in her presence and I love to cook and clean and go for walks and reading with my daughter, taking her out and also fulfilling my need to socialize in a "work" environment doing something that does make me feel good. While I don't make a lot of money... I am still working towards that $500.00+ a month goal but $200.00 is not bad if you ask me. I am not the bread winner in this house but I most certainly am the one with super human abilities.
Tips for avoiding a scam.
- If you are looking for a job on the internet either to make extra income or make it a full time job, just know that if you have to pay for it, it is bogus! What kind of job makes you pay to work for them? If that was the case, wouldn't they technically be working for you? Yes, I see it like this!
- So the internet is littered with tons of ads for Stay at Home Moms, Make $1000.00 overnight, Become a Real Writer, Become a Freelance Writer etc... They all start off good, then you get towards the bottom all happy and ready to go thinking you just found yourself a job you can do at home...then it ask you to pay! Forget about it! By this time you really, really, really want to do it because you have read all the "testimonies" from people who became rich doing what you just read about, of course you never read the "unhappy testimonies" which are usually sure to outweigh the number of success stories ten fold.
- Or maybe you find something free and then you read the fine print at the bottom that says something to the effect of: works published through so and so is property of so and so etc. You are basically giving away all credit and royalty to a company that doesn't even have to pay you for the work.
- Stay away from any site that "times-out" while you are reading or filling out information. These are tricks to get you to skim over the contents and sign. Even though there isn't a person hounding you to join, it is still called "pressure sales". Think about it.
- Be weary if; you want more information and wish to speak to a representative but you cannot call them, they call you.
- Basically, the only real way to avoid a scam is to never give them your money. Don't give them your money for business start up packets, product information, business cards etc...remember, you don't pay to work, you work for pay, doyee!
Waste Your Time Here!
I mean this in the best of ways. While many of the HubPages authors make a heck of a lot more than I do and often times write on other sites, I actually only use HubPages because it is the one that has worked for me. I know I could do more elsewhere but I don't think I would be as successful. Plus, in all honesty. Making money as an internet writer takes more time then you think. You cannot expect to just write one thing and all the sudden you have all this money flowing in you don't know what to do with it.
No, with nearly every hub I write, at a minimum I spend 8 hours. Sometimes the hub doesn't pay off and other times it does. It is at times hit and miss. I do the keyword searches. I dig for information, I look up credible sources, I read other hubs and articles on the internet. I test the things I use and do the best I can to write well informed hubs to best of my knowledge and I get just as frustrated sometime just like you do at any other job.
I hear a lot of people say that I should get a real job and that I don't care enough about my child's well being because I chose to stay home and "play" on the internet. Nope, sorry I do not "play" on the internet... sometimes I do but for the most part, I treat it as a job and I know that it is something most people can do. Yet I know the difference between working hard and hardly working.
Looking for Good Writers
It has come to my attention that because HubPages is free there are a lot of spammers or low quality hubs being produces which significantly drives down the ranking of the site altogether. I definitely like to think I contribute to the success of the site as a whole and because I do believe it is the best site to work on and I am pretty dependent on the extra income every month, the last thing I want is for it to be downgraded because of the terrible writing being produced.
Again, for many on HubPages it is for fun and even I have fun but at the same time, nearly every single person comes with the idea that you will make some money. I certainly don't buy it when someone says that they have no intention of making money. If that was the case, there are other places where you can blog till your hearts content and negate spell check and or steal other peoples work and call it your own or spam for the purpose of directing traffic elsewhere.
But this is not the case because people come and they stay because HubPages is designed to be fun, easy and (in my opinion) give you a place in search engine traffic which you otherwise would not have gotten had it not been for the credibility and authenticity of many of its writers.
We need better writers. I wont say I am the best writer ever to grace the pages because I have read a wealth of authors who have topped my list as some of the best writers I have ever read. I wont say that I work sooo hard that I should be making $1000.00 a month because I do have other things to attend to. I will say that over time I was and am able to make money and I am still reaching for my goal because being a mom and wife is my number one job and I wouldn't trade it for the world! At the same time I wouldn't give up HubPages either.
Sometimes I get upset that a hub I thought was the best one eva didn't make the front page of Google like The HubPages Christmas Catalog or The Meade ETX 125 Telescope, but at the same time I feel very accomplished when about 10 of nearly 100 have. Yes, it seems like a lot of writing for just a few of them to reach the desired destination but that is what it takes to become a successful publisher.
It is a lot of work just like any other job. So if you decide that you want to give it a try then know it is something that takes time and patients and while I know that you can join and be a horrible writer, it wont get you anywhere. You also do not have to be an English Professor. All you have to do is be able to craft a sentence that is easily understood. Configure an article that flows in a understandable pattern with things that relate to the subject matter and of course use the spell check and perhaps write about something that people are looking for.
Some authors are successful being creative writers in their fields such as poetry and fictional stories which I can say I am actually jealous of them but I have a different niche and after I accepted what will work for me, I went with it and I am happy with it.

As the story goes, Mom! Never let anyone tell you that just because you are a homemaker or stay at home mother that you are lazy or you don't do enough because in truth being a success at anything takes a lot of work, organizing your time, being patient and somewhere in between mustering up your next wind of energy to keep going because when the man of the house gets home, it time for round two... if you know I mean. *wink, wink* lol.
And this is from a mother who has it pretty easy compared to other mothers who also have to pick up or drop off their kids at school, take them to their after school activities, get them to do their homework, attend games or meetings with their kids teachers, dance recitals etc... I already have a platform because missing any part of my families lives would kill me especially knowing that it would be for people who care less about me than they do. They need me and I need them.
I wrote this in dedication to Lady Guinevere who is one busy lady!, Debbie. I love you Debbie, next time someone tells you that you aren't good enough and to get a "real" job, just know there are hundreds of woman behind you saying, "Go suck a lemon!" to anyone who thinks that being an internet writer is not a real job or that being a stay at home mom or homemaker is not a real job. I know at the end of the day I am just as exhausted as anyone. The difference between a "real" job and a real job is that we don't have that luxury of leaving it behind after you clock out. Thus, we have a real job and we can make money too!
So just keep writing! I know writing product reviews and doing keyword searches, and back linking and networking aren't the funnest part of the job but in the long run it pays off. I wish you the best and I always have ears when you need me.
If this doesn't sound like what you are looking for
There are several web based job opportunities that promise to make you a ton of money right away with minimal effort but stay away from MLM companies like Pre-Paid Legal or any company that makes you pay money upfront. Hey Sandra, I love how you put your story in your hubs. Makes it real easy to relate to you. I've enjoyed reading them. For a minute I thought this would be only for Moms until you clarified for me wink:) God Bless,
Ontarian
Your welcome Debbie but you know, I think we are already lucky! :D
*winks back* Ontarian. :)
Did you get my two e-mails yet.
Yes, I got them. I looked for the grammar error but I am not sure where it is. I also updated the hub to link to your profile so people can really get a feel for all the things that you do.
Here it is: Thus, we have a real job and we can money too!
Werd!!! lol. Thank you. I looked at that sentence like 20 times and couldn't see what was wrong with it. That is the sucky thing about editing your own work. Thanks for being on the look out! You rock. :D
I know exactly what you mean about editting!!!
This is a lovely hub in every way. Thank you and all the best.
Thanks Sandra..as usual lots of good information. I'm bookmarking this one.
Thanks ya'll! I love the wonderful support I get from other hubbers here. :) All you all rock!
Hi Sandra, This is a good hub...I bookmarked it. I can tell that you put a lot of work and thought into your hubs. I have only published two hubs in two months and they are not really as good as I would like. You inspire me to discipline myself and to work harder. Thanks.
Alan
Great Hub. Thanks for writing it and keep up the good work.
Excellent escritor! And thank you katrinasui.
Sandra, thank you again for a wonderful read. The personalization within each entry is a credit to your style and accomplished in a truly unique manner. Never sell yourself short by calling writing a job; writing should never be a job. It is your calling. The care you put into your hubs show that it is more than that. Let the stiffs clock in and out, while you are paid with a smile.
Yeah twalker, I like that! It's our calling. I can roll with that for sure! Thanks. :D
I'm guessing that a lot of those people telling you to go get a 'real' job are other women. I got that too when I chose to be a stay-at-home Mum when my kids were younger. Everyone has their own priorities, but I do find it sad when women attack each other in this manner. Best of luck always.
Sandra rinck, great hub and intellectually written. Spellcheck one word "eva" was misspelled. I read word for word and caught that one for you.
Keep on writing. You gave me the inspiration to get back walking again. I like your daily routine and how you chronological wrote your hubpage article into the flow of your day.
I read the whole thing. No one should underestimate the job a mother does so thanks for the reminder. I'll try to be nicer to my wife now!
*sigh* great hub Sandra. I was sighing because a few hours ago, I just told my husband that there are times I just really want to write, write, write. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way right now. so i'll just do this part-time. :)
@ Linda, thanks for going over the hub with a fine tooth comb. You are awesome yet I intentionally meant "eva" as opposed to "ever". It's my thang. :D
@ psychicdog.net, glad to hear it.
@ emievil, I actually feel that way too sometimes. Sometimes he just gives me my space to do so especially when I keep telling him, "The more I write, the more money I can make." Then he is like, okay hop to it!
I have read some of your hubs and you are an excellent writer. What happened to your avatar with your kid...sooo cute?
Nemingha, It sure is other women that told me these things.
Great hub. I work from home and do not have alot of time for hubs, my goal is to gradually build up in my spare time, eventually be able to work less on my other work. Thanks for the inspiring read.
I have been waiting for this type of explanation for back-links, etc. I feel like I just might understand now. This can be very confusing and I really enjoy HubPages, making a little cash here and there would make me feel as if I'm not taking advantage of being at home while my husband works very hard all day.
@ Sandi3m, that is my goal as well.
@ Laurel, not sure if I entirely understood what what you said but I think I do and yeah... something like that. :D
Hi Sandi,
You must have been tired I think when you finished finished this hub.
There are actually a lot of spelling errors, I don't have time to point them all out to you as I'm just taking a coffee break from my other job.
Here is one, "and 'negate' to use the spell check and" pretty sure you mean 'neglect'.
Other than that great and very informative.
Have a great day
Hi Linda, no I meant negate but you are right, I need to fix the sentence. Thanx. :D
Hey sandra, thanks for the compliment about my kid (actually she's my niece, but we sort of semi-adopted her). I'm going to change my avatar in a few days. Just got it up because of the Halloween :D.
There are a lot of scams out there but there are also some legimate WAH opportunities. Very informative hub on the subject.
Thank you Artemus Gordon.
Great Hub Sandra!
Love this hub. My mum has been telling me to get a "real" job too. However, I love writing and blogging too much to give up.
I know how you feel. I had to take care of my kids when my wife went to florida. So I had make dinner, pack their lunch and make mine as well. Not just that, but other house things to do also. on top of that, working.
take a break once in a while :)
cheers.
really good hub very informative!
Very nice hub, looking forward to more.
Very encouraging and warmly written Sandra, thanks! I'm going to send this one to my wife to look at!
Great read Sandra. I am a stay at home mum myself, and prefer to work from home. It doesn't pay me to put my kids in aftercare if l go back to work, as most of my wages will go straight to aftercare. Great advice and keep up with your writing. Being a mum is the greatest contribution to society.
It most certainly is shyonegb! It really doesn't pay to work and be away from you kid/s when all the money you make goes to childcare so you work to be away from you kid/s and you haven't gained much...maybe a 200 a month or something?
Thanks for being a mum! :)
Nicely written! I know your readers are going to learn a lot from your articles. Keep up the great work!
Good work - I am glad I read the "and Dad" bit after clicking on your post (otherwise I was ready with a different reply). Eight hours for a post seems a lot - but then I can see where you are coming from. I think that the way it will work for me is that after taking half an hour or so on each of the first ones (plus hours messing about learning about the options - and still miles to go!) my posts hopefully will get better longer and more useful to the reader. Regards
My spouse and I both are trying to get internet work in the evenings to pay for some extra expenses we have right now.
Very cool Mitch. You and your wife working together. I think that speaks volumes. :)

Hi i am new to the hub and as i was browsing through the website your title caught my attention. its funny how sometimes one persons story could relate to another. well i think its the same story for every stay at home mom. i laughed when you mentioned that when your partner comes home: thats round 2. you got that right. anyway as i mentioned i just joined a few minutes ago and any advice would be nice. thanks.
Sure Jane. Write what you know about, write it with passion. If you treat it like an obligation it becomes an obligation. Do it because you want to. :)
As far as monetizing goes, you can check my profile page for a list of hubs regarding using google adsense and hubpages together. I would suggest product reviews though *wink*
And be patient. You can ask any hubber how long it took before they started to see a pay off and what happened after that.
Welcome to HubPages!
Good hub. I started to just get some practise at online writing. I'm pleasantly surprised at some of the content on here.
Great hub, I am new here so it was an interesting read for me. I am a bit afraid to write something but I know I have so much to say, your hub inspired me to have a go.
Nicely done Sandra, I enjoyed this one very much. Thanks for the tips.
This article is so good! I was feeling a little blah this afternoon, but you've inspired me to keep going! Your dedication to your family is a beautiful thing, and the people who may criticize you for not having a "real job" just don't get it.

Sandra, you know you are one special lady. Thanks a whole bunch for doing this and dedicating it to me. Maybe we will both get lucky.
Sincerely and from the bottom of my heart,
