Business that are benefitting from the recession

Job seekers may be surprised to find that some businesses are prospering during the recession. Some of these require previous training but there are others that offer on-site or apprentice training. There are also support positions available.

Car Service Centers

While trained mechanics are most in demand, there are a variety of jobs that do not required certification. Owners are keeping their vehicles longer so that continuing maintenance is keeping car service centers busy. Jobs include clerical positions, greeters, answering, telephone and behind the scene jobs.

Pawnshops

Pawnshops usually cater to clients who need short term loans, usually for about a month. Unlike loans from banks or credit unions, there is no credit check and a transaction can be completed in minutes. While it takes an experienced appraiser to determine how much should be loaned, clerks and sales positions may be available.

Massage and Yoga Salons

The recession has improved business for services that relief stress such as massage and yoga salons. The professional positions require previous training however job seekers with people skills may find jobs such as receptionists and assistants to the trained specialists.

Thrift shops

Many thrift shops have had to increase the number of needed employees as their sales have increased by more than 30% as customers look for used goods priced at a fraction of their new price.
