Detroit, Michigan
Detroit is located in the southeast corner of Michigan, on the Detroit River in Wayne County. This county is home to approximately 191,000 people and is surrounded by numerous small suburbs. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides funding for an additional 109,000 jobs in the State of Michigan beginning in 2009.
I have a martial arts training site in Detroit, just east of downtown, operated by instructors that specialize in self-defense specifically designed to help women and children that have survived domestic abuse; and, for at-risk youth that are struggling to stay out of violent circumstances. Others participate for a good workout or to study one of the specific martial arts taught by the team. Detroit has proven a very effective location for this endeavor and one of the team is working his way through college with this work. All of this shows the potential of the city of Detroit.
Like the self-defense instruction, the Service Industry overall is gaining new jobs in the city, including positions in food service, child care, teaching, landscaping, and other occupations.
The top two categories of occupations experiencing the fastest growth include the Information Technology (IT) and Heathcare Industries. Further, a portion of IT jobs are avaiable within the healthcare community itself. Other of these occupational openings are situated in the Robotics Industry. Green Industries are also increasing - see this link: Michigan Green Industry Association.

Patty, It's me again. I just found this hub today. Great hub, by the way.
I was born and raised in Detroit and I am a graduate of Wayne State University. I've been a fan of downtown all my life and I think Detroit's potential is underestimated, not only by outsiders, but by residents also.
Its a shame what's going on with the leaders of the City (sorry to bring that up on such a good hub).
Anyways, Detroit will continue to move forward.
Look forward to more good info.

Wonderful hub Patty, and I'm not saying that because Detroit is my home, but if I weren't from Detroit, I sure would want to visit after reading this hub. Great job, and thanks for sharing this.
