Johnny Depp leaves $4K tip for waiter?

What a great night to be a waiter!
While in Chicago for the premier of his new movie 'Public Enemies', Johnny Depp had dinner with his co-star Marion Cotillard, Director Michael Mann and about a dozen or so other people at Gibson's Steakhouse. This was not his first visit to this restaurant, and he was back fulfilling on a previous promise made to his waiter he calls "Mo", that he would return to the restaurant after the premier.
Depp and his guests arrived at the restaurant around 11:30. By the waiters account, the party enjoyed shrimp cocktails, Clams Casino, and a few $500 bottles of Italian Wine. The waiter, Mohammaed A. Sekhani was quoted as saying, "I know exactly the way he likes to be treated. He may be one of the most famous actors in Hollywood, but he is a really humble guy and a really cool dude. I have worked with a lot of stars like Sean Connery and Robert De Niro but Johnny Depp is my favorite. He is a very soft spoken guy who is charming and sweet. When I wait for him he doesn't like to be fussed over and he is in not in any way demanding."
The bill was tallied and presented to Depp at around 2:30 am. It was a grand total of $4,400. In an effort to pay what he felt was fair to the waiter who had taken care of him and his friends until so late in the morning, Depp left a $4000 tip. The waiter reports that he enjoys waiting on Depp when he visits the restaurant because of the pleasantness more than the tip. Access Hollywood reported that they attempted to reach a representative for Depp to comment on the story, however one was not immediately available.
So what do you think? Did the waiter actually receive this tip? If he was tipped $4000 does that mean that the service was that impressive or is it that Depp has more money than he will spend in a lifetime? Or was the whole think some sort of gossip driven publicity stunt to drive more people to see his new movie? Well, whatever the reason, I'm betting that waiter is looking forward to Depps next visit to the steak restaurant.

From everything I've heard about Depp he seems to be very genuine. I am very excited about Public Enemies also. I think he is a great actor also. I am also looking forward to seeing him in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

I don't think it was a stunt. From everything that I've heard about Depp he isn't the standard Hollywood type. From the waiter's description I would say he did because he could. Things are relative. He has a few more zeroes on the end of his paycheck than most and that much money is the same as a regular tip to us. I think he is an excellent actor and I am looking forward to seeing Public Enemies.
