Who Is Judah Hertz?

Judah Hertz is owner and founder of the Hertz Investment Group.  He was born in the New York area, and he was raised in the city that he began to renovate and redesign in his early real estate years.  His investments began in the 1970’s, and Hertz has continued to grow through strategic real estate acquisitions and leasing and sales.

Judah Hertz: Building A Real Estate Empire

Judah Hertz began his empire in the state of New York. His innovation compelled him to purchase real estate in the SoHo warehouse district. The building was old, dilapidated and otherwise broken down and unlivable. Hertz saw potential in the rundown building, though. He renovated the buildings and turned them into upscale trendy apartments that became a popular living space. As the property’s value grew, he sold it for a profit. This was his beginning to a fulfilling career in real estate investments.

His sights quickly grew to the Miami, Florida area. He bought another old, rundown apartment building and quickly turned it into an outstanding, prestigious area. His renovated apartments brought style and character to the city’s community. The building designs and rebuilt structure not only benefited Hertz in his business’ profit, but it also gave the community classy housing for the local residents.

It was not until his 3.5 million square feet purchase in Los Angeles, California where Hertz found the perfect office park for the Hertz Investment Group. The area space soon became his main office headquarters, and Hertz bought a Malibu home to settle into during his Los Angeles stay. As prices in Los Angeles, California begin to rise, the Hertz Investment Group quickly found that its profit became negligible in the current area market. Hertz began looking inland to other areas to fund development and real estate investments.

Judah Hertz: Before "The Storm"

New Orleans became the focus of the investment company as Hertz began to openly invest in the local area. He broke into the market when he bought a twenty seven story office building named Poydras Center. The following months he invested further when he bought Dominion Tower and the adjoining New Orleans Shopping Centre. The thirty six month investment spree gave Hertz an incredible control of the commercial real estate market in New Orleans.

Judah Hertz: The Aftermath

After Hurricane Katrina, Hertz Investment Group had extensive damage to the buildings in which they owned. The hurricane blew holes through glass walls, flood bottom floors, and the structural damage as a whole in the city was devastating. The damage to the buildings didn’t hold Hertz down. He quickly created an assessment team to evaluate the damage to all of his buildings. The damage was worse than suspected. Extensive water damage from blown in roofs and rain that entered through broken glass left the buildings in incredible disarray.

Judah Hertz: Moving Forward

The Katrina disaster was devastating to New Orleans and its infrastructure.  Hertz, however, quickly renovated and recovered from his losses.  His determination to rebuild what had been lost brought value to the torn city.  His buildings still stand strong today, and he continues to build a strong investment in real estate nationally.

Here's hoping Hertz and others can rebuild all that was lost.
