Julian Opie Works
62
Leading contemporary artist Julian Opie was born in London in 1958. He is best known for his cartoon like portraits, as seen on the cover of Blur’s ‘Best Of’ album.
Much of Opie’s work uses computers to create figurative reproductions from photos or video. The works frequently feature reduced detail and heavy outlining (see Woman Taking off Man's Shirt in Five Stages and Ruth Smoking 5).
As well as using computers to create art Julian Opie has also used computers
as a medium. Limited editions of works such as View From My Bedroom Window use
computers and LCD technology as the end product. Looking much like a digital
picture frame, these works show a looping animation of the artist’s work (View From My Bedroom Window by Julian Opie is available at HH Fine Art).
Julian Opie exhibits with the Lisson Gallery and Alan Cristea Gallery. He has been the subject of many books (see below) and has exhibited around the world. For a full list visit his past and future exhibitions visit his website at www.julianopie.com. His website is a must visit for any fan of his work as it includes numerous screen savers, desktops and more.
