2010 is the Final Season

Okay,

Now that I have emerged from my blog coma, I am quite ready to jump into the endless discussions and theories as it relates to the ABC Prime Time Show 'Lost' and the season five finale.

So, the Season Finale of Lost wrapped up on May 13, 2009. This means that those of us who are addicted to the twists and turns of this show have to wait until 2010 learn what the meaning is behind it all after so many years of watching.

Can you say 'Back to the Future'? The season was riddled with time travel, answers to the past and more unanswered questions about what the future might hold. And, once again, we are left asking what the meaning is behind so many things that are happening in the final show.

First, how is it that one half of the Oceanic 6 landed in the present and the other half landed in 1977 on the island. What is up with Locke vs. non-Locke? What has all of the time travel really meant if everything "has already happened"? If the initial theory about the past is actually true and the characters can't change anything about the past...what is the point of all of the time travel? Of course, the writers toy with us by shifting that thought process and leading us to buy into the perceived theory that it is the "Destiny" of the Oceanic Six to change the past by blowing up the hydrogen bomb.

Yes, as outlandish and off-base as this may sound, I am reminded of 'Back to the Future' (BTF) once again. If we follow BTF, plutonium/or some other major event i.e. a bolt of lighting is the thing that allows for the DeLorean to travel through time...that and the flux capcitor. Will the explosion of the bomb transfer the remaining Oceanic Survivors from 1977 into 2007?

If we follow the design of BTF, you can change the past but you cannot change what happened in the past while in the future because the past has already happened. So, that leaves me to wonder what is the role of non-Locke and the remaining Oceanic Six + Ben Linus in the future. But, I am getting ahead of myself...

My BTF theory brings me back to the mysterious Jacob. Who is he? Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Well, if we go back to the beginning of the season finale episode, Jacob and the mysterious Man in Black are seated on the beach. It's the cliche of good vs. evil or is it?

Let's take a step back to the dialogue that transpires at the beginning of the season finale. Enter Jacob and the Man dressed in black. Our attention is drawn to the ship coming in and the writers decide to shed a bit more light on how long things have been happening on the island.

Jacob says to the man in black, "I take it you are here because of the ship."

The man in black says, "I am. How did they find the island?"

Jacob says, "You'll have to ask them when they get here."

Man in black, "I don't have to ask. You brought the here. You're trying to prove me wrong."

Jacob, "You are wrong."

Man in black, "Am I? They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt. Always ends the same."

Jacob, "It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress."

Man in black, "Do you know how badly I want to kill you?"

Jacob, "Yes."

Man in black, "One of these days my dear friend, I'm going to find a loop hole."

Jacob, "Well, when you do I'll be right here."

Man in black, "Always nice talking to you Jacob."

It is here we see the full statue, a clue that this conversation happened long ago and the craziness that is the island has been ongoing.

Throughout the episode, we see Jacob come in contact with each major character at some point in the past, touching each one of them, imparting advice/or intervening in some capacity to steer them while hand picking each one for their arrival on the island. We still don't know if he is good or evil.

We know that Ben is forced to acknowledge Non-Locke as his leader after the "Black-Smoke" takes on the form of his "daughter" and warns him to follow Non-Locke or suffer the consequences. I think the black smoke is the entity that will eventually emerge as Non-Locke. Having Ben kill Jacob becomes the loop hole that the Man in Black referenced and this brings me to the 100 questions I still have.

What is the role of Christian Shephard and why is a dead man walking around on the island? Has it been the man in black all along? Then there's Jacob...Is he a good guy or a bad guy? What does it all mean now that non-Locke manipulated Benjamin Linus into stabbing Jacob? Why doesn't Richard age? Who is he and what is his role other than being a leader of the hostiles? Why are there hostiles? What's in the guitar case that Hurley has been carrying around since his return? Finally, why did Jacob bring Ana to the island? She was on the flight with the Oceanic Six that landed in the present.

I have more questions but I'll save them for the other blogs and theories out there....

2010 seems so far away...
