Tips to Increase Your Vertical
Here are the exercises that I do to increase my vertical, and it has shown some excellent improvement. While doing these exercises make sure to eat some protein before and after so the muscle can be built, and do them 3 times a week. All of the exercises have pictures below.
- Step Ups: Have a bench such that you thigh is parallel to the ground when you have one leg on it, and one leg on the ground. Stand with facing the same direction as the bench while holding some light weights or wearing a weight vest.
- Jump Overs: Take an object such as a cone or bench and jump over it with two legs, left and right. Do this fast and as many times as you can. Optional to use a weight vest or light weights.
- Leg Press or Squats: Use a leg press machine or hold a barbell. Do not try to do the highest weight you can, select a comfortable weight and do about 20 of them. Do not rest between each repetition, do them at a constant pace that is not too fast or not slow. Take about 2 seconds to go down and 2 seconds to go back up.
- Calf Raises: Find the edge of a surface so that your heel can go below your toes. Stand on the edge with half of both your feet on the raised edge then raise and lower your entire body. Do these until they really burn, about 20-30 usually. Use a weight vest or light weights for more intensity.
- Leg Extensions: Use a leg extension machine with weight where you can do 10 repetitions. Explode you legs up and slowly return them back down. It is also good to do less reps of higher weight and more reps of less weight.
- Lunges: Do either walking lunges or lunges while holding a barbell. Alternate lunging with your right leg and left leg forward. Do as many as you can until it really burns.
Always do a few sets of each of these exercises and make sure to increase the weight or repetitions slowly over time. After only a few months you notice at least a few inches increase in your vertical jump, and soon you'll start to dunk like Michael Jordan.
