There has been alot of talk about this thing called the law of attraction. I find that most religions shy away from the docu/movie by the name of "The Secret". Some that I have asked about have told me that it is a slander of religion and that they wouldn't touch it. In my opinion that is prejudging something before you even look at it. Just what are they afraid of is beyond me. Some say it is "New Age", well if they watched the docu/movie they would see that it really isn't. In my opinion New Age is just a phrase they come to use when they don't understand the concept or that it in some way disagrees with what they have been *told* by their clergy as being so. The thing is they don't want to know or haven't the slightest idea who taught this in the first place. It was their Jesus Christ! All they have to do is read their Bible to know this. It is written all over the New Testament.
All the Law of Attraction says is that whatever you put out or think or do has an equal reaction. Positive brings positive and negative brings back negative. Thoughts really do become things. Jesus says that in his book about him--the Holy Bible. Others speak of this too--Hinduism and others. It is everywhere in every culture and in every belief system. To come up with it as being New Age is just plain ignorant of the fact that everyone knows this but doesn't always tap into it.
In the Bible Jesus says that we are to live in abundance. What does that mean to you? It means abundance! He also tells you to ask seek and believe.
He says to ask--and it will be given to you. He doesn't put any stipulations on that. He doesn't say if you believe in whoever or whatever then you can't have it. He simply states Ask and it shall be given to you.
Seek and you shall find. Seek out what your heart desires and you shall find them. Why is it so hard to trust what he tells us? If you want it then ask for it and it will be yours. Simple!
Believe it and it is yours. You will manifest it in your life. There are no strings attached. Just as all things need to be made first then arrived--like in the mail. Believe that it is already in the works and it is coming to you at any moment. It is already yours. Visualize it.
This works for relationships, finances, health, material things and spiritual things. Jesus wants us to have abundance of anything we desire. Be very careful what and how you ask for it though because you will get exactly what you asked for. I have found that some things can be and some can't be changed.
Have you ever just thought that you wanted something and then within the next 24 hours you had it. How do you think that was. It was your visualization that brought it to you and your want and your thoughts.
Thoughts become things. The things that you constantly think of --they will come to you. If you constantly think, I don't have the money to do this or that then you will never have that money. The Universe or God or whoever you pay respects too only sees the don't. Take that word out of your vocabulary. Seriously --take it out. It is negative--no matter how you use it. Watch your thoughts. When I watched the Secret, I stopped everything that I was thinking and began to pay attention to what and how I was thinking. It took me two weeks to actually get a grip on this and change my thoughts and viewpoints on things. It is what you focus on that makes it come back to you. Focus on positiveness in your thoughts and words. It isn't easy and isn't an overnight thing to change from being negative in your thoughts to being positive and taking out that word DON'T. I still catch myself doing that and immediately stop it afterwards.
When Jesus tells you to Heal Thyself--he really meant that we can heal ourselves-----of everything. Now in my life I also believe that we have a contract as to what things we will learn in this life and how we are going to learn them. So if it isn't your time to not have a certain illness and that it was your life lesson to have it and learn something from it then you might not be able to heal yourself from that. Most times you can. Visualize it going away. Visualize each cell changing to positive and healthy. This takes alot of concentration (FOCUS) and also alot of trust in yourself.
Jesus said that ye Are Gods. He meant that too. We are in charge of our own bodies and our own thoughts and actions. Therefore we are Gods.
Try something small and see what happens and make a note of it. Like think of an object that you really would like to have--say an ice cream or something. Visualize that you have it and then ask for it. You can think of it or say it out loud. Notice when you get it. I have done this several times and some times I didn't even realize that I did it. I thought, actually the thought passed through my mind, that I would like to have ice cream one day. I didn't even think about it the rest of the day and guess what-----my husband brings me some ice cream on his way home from work. I never mentioned it to him. I know the law of attraction works.
Now this Devil thing--put that out of your mind--the mistakes and the thoughts that you have are only those things----your thoughts. If they are negative, they will bring negative. The only thing to be afraid of is yourself. It is human nature to think negative--when you have always been taught to think that way. Religions do that as they want to control the masses. They did good in that for many centuries. The instilled that every bad act that happens to a person is Satan and it is against God. This is FREE WILL. We are FREE to do OUR OWN WILL. We bring things to us--such as diseases and accidents. There are no mistake and no accidents or coincidences..
What we thought of before is our reality today. So change your thought patterns today and you will have a better tomorrow.

I hear you on "thought patterns" what you think and how you project those thoughts means everything to your quality of life. Right on with this article! I look forward to reading more of your hubs.
So how do you stop yourself saying "don't"? Do you say, "don't say don't"? You see, you need the negative to think, just as you need the darkness to see. Too much light would make you blind. You need shadow and light in order to differentiate things. Sometimes the most positive word you can say is "no"!
CJ,
You really are one to make me think. Yes you do need darkness to see the light. Here we are talking about the thing that I said NOT to think about. This is how I do it when I want to use the word Don't I think of it in a more positive way. Like when I say I don't want this to happen--turn it around and say I would like for this to happen instead ------that is muddy!!
Let's try again (see it is a consciouse(sp) effort and hard to change)---Lets say that I don't have the money to get a new car-----instead say that I will have that new car. Some things also have to be started by you--or the person.......if you want that new care then prepare for it--take on a second job or tell people about it, make it real to you.
What I did with this when I first changed my thought patterns. I tried something small--like I have more money coming in then going out--and within three months that happened. No one got another job nor did we sell anything. What happened is my husband got a huge raise and that was totally unexpected! They kept telling him that he was at the top of the payscale there. He was going to take another job offer when they gave him his raise. We have had money for things that we have needed and wanted ever since and it has only been about 8 months since we watched that docu/movie. So I know it works!
I have a lot of problems with this law of attraction idea. I would say that history shows, as do ongoing situations, that whole large groups of people are often subjected to horrible atrocities that not only would they not have wanted or asked for but in many cases wouldn't have even known could happen! I am sure all the billions of people who were invaded, killed or enslaved in Africa, in America, in Australia and elsewhere never asked for this nor knew anything about their killers and enslavers. Same applies today - I was reading of an isolated tribe somewhere whose entire way of life and beautiful jungle home is now threatened by a mining company! Did these people ask for this? I think not!
How do you explain these sorts of things? I have asked followers of the Secret before but never get any answers.
The film of The Secret also suggests that money, flashy cars, jewels and big houses with swimming pools are the sorts of stuff we should desire. In other words it promotes desire for material things. I see this materialism, consumerism and greed as a huge problem in the world.
I look around me and see that because people want this sort of life vast stretches of land are destroyed. Here on Tenerife mile after mile is swallowed up by tourist resorts, golf courses, hotels and developments. Roads are built despite what the local people and farmers want.Again it appears that people get what they don't want and didn't even know about - farmers living how they have done for years do not want motorways built across their land!
The people of Iraq did not want their country torn apart by war and millions of other people in the world did not want it either but it still happened!
Why is it that the law of attraction works for the rich and powerful and fails badly for the poor?
CJ,
It also has alot to do with being grateful for what yu do have at the present.
Bard of Ely,
You bring up so many good things and questions. I will try to explain it. Whatever those people did and thought in the past is what has come to fruition in the present. According to history Iraq wasn't the nicest country to the rest of the world--so they get what is due to them by thir actions, thoughts and words. They have recently--as in a historical sense--changed their thought patterns. This will be evident in the furture of those peoples and that country.
About Africa--not so sure about that one. I will tell that to you honsetly. But if you notice the thought patterns of those african's they were afraid--of course they were, and no they didn't ask for it----but in history someone in their country agreed to this treatment of their people. Somewhere down the line they too did an injustice to someone. It has something to do with Karma too. Like in the hub--what happened many eyars ago and the thought patterns that took place then are happening now. The Law of Attraction is not taught everywhere and to everyone--so most still have no idea of what their thoughts are doing. Religions will blame it on Satan that all these evil things come about--when it is the individual people that are causing. I guess you missed the comment of Life Contracts earlier in my hub.
Well, I can't see it. America once had millions of Native Americans living in tribes and they were not thinking about being invaded or wanting to be, and I am sure all the black tribal peoples of Africa were not either. Not only that but they were not wishing harm on or causing harm to other nations - how could they when they didn't even know anything about them? So if we are going to talk karma, what sort of karma was visited on them? No, these were people living according to their culture and often in balance with nature and their local environment. Same goes for the Aborogines in Australia and the Guanche people who lived on the Canary Islands. In fact the Guanches appear to have been so out of touch with the rest of the world they were living with very basic tools and a hunter gatherer existence and didn't even have boats. All these tribal people worldwide met the same fate - they were brutally invaded by white Europeans from Spain, Britain, France, Holland and Portugal bringing with them Catholicism, Christianity, the cross, disease, death and slavery!
As for Iraq it has been damaged beyond any known means of repair with depleted uranium. Nobody really knows how to get rid of it and it will go on killing and deforming people born there and including those who have been there and were contaminated by the stuff which has a half-life of 4.5 billion years! Iraq will as far as we can tell remain a dangerous country to be in with or without war!
Please see for further info on depleted uranium: http://www.cadu.org.uk/intro.htm
There were warring tribes all in and through the American Indians. Indigeonous tribes of Africa and the like do take from the eart for personal gratification too. I saw a tribe on teh National Geographic channel that their land is being taken away from them--only they are doing it to themsleves if you look deeper. Yealry they would have this bugee jumping contest to see how high one can fall from. Each year they would cut rtrees down in the hybdreds to make these massively high towers. Each year they would take more and more and not use the same ones they built the year before.
Remember the large area of Persia--just how many nations were included in that area that are now a different name and what did they do to each other nation there and what did they do to the land they had also.
Iraq--Uranium? I wasn't even considering that. I was thinking along the lines of how they treated their own people and the others surrounding their own nation and land.--Talk abut Persia again--oh and we can't forget Rome with all it's conquering and the Vikings and Anglos and Saxons.........
I agree we shouldn't forget the other warmaking empire builders but I can hardly see how intertribal conflict in America and Africa and some trees cut down by some tribal people somewhere is anywhere near the scale of genocide and cultural destruction visited on the people of these lands. Neither can I think of any action by any government or people in the past anywhere that could be as bad as the unleashing of depleted uranium for 4.5 billion years in Iraq and anywhere else it may blow or be carried in the world!
We are all connected. Ever heard of the Ripple Effect? Tha is how it works. There is also a collective mind sense and the power of suggestion a play.
Osiris: I understand what you are saying too.
Do you think the law of attraction could be used to get rid of or neutralize the depleted uranium? If it could that would be something!
Lady G,
Great hub, wonderful debate it's stirred up. Just need to pull up a stool and I can join you all at the bar.
I think the principle behind The Secret is excellent - that what we focus on we can achieve. I do believe this.
At the same time, I think The Secret and many of the similar works around the Law of Attraction go way over the top in terms of trying to use it to explain everything. I think it's too easy to simplify things to this level and try to defend it.
Personally I believe that The Law Of Attraction is about being able to get the best outcomes for ourselves whatever our situation. I once said to my daughter that if she wishes hard enough, she can do anything with her life. A week later she said she was wishing for real working fairy wings, but they hadn't grown yet! No amount of Law Of Attraction will fix that in her childhood for her!
A very similar approach, but not called Law of Attraction, is taught by Brian Tracy in his goals programme cd set.
Keep 'em coming Lady G, lovin' it!
MidnightPiper
Thank You Midnightpiper. Yes pull up a chair and lets talk about this.
I also have some problems with it as well. But then I also believe in the Contract we make prior to coming into this life. If we are supposed to have an illness or some horrific accident or thing happen to us then that would be there in place so that we could learn some new way of dealing with and learning about ourselves. Therefore the Law of Attraction might not work or it might not seem so. We don't know everything and we certainly don't know what contract we made up prior to coming ere--that is why we have that veil. If we knew or remembered everything then we would certainly pass up the hardest lessons wouldn't we. I think we all have a piece of that puzzle and eventually we will all get it together and have a grand picture! I also know this from expereince that sometime certain things have to happen before something manifest. It's like the 20/20 effect--we don't always know why or what but after the fact then we have that Ah Ha moment.
Bard of Ely wrote: The film of The Secret also suggests that money, flashy cars, jewels and big houses with swimming pools are the sorts of stuff we should desire. In other words it promotes desire for material things. I see this materialism, consumerism and greed as a huge problem in the world.
Lady Says: I just had another hubber join my fan club and stated ont he same lines as you do. There will be greedy people who will exploit anything. The Law of Attraction, IMHO, is not for like you said--flashy cars and stuff like that. Thre are those of us who don't want nor need any of that kind of stuff. I use The Law everyday in my life. It allows me to see things in a better persepctive as to what occurs in my own life. I don't have a huge house or a really expensive car because I don't want those things. I used the Law to gain money and funds to help feed and spay and neuter the cats that come around here. I used it to get us out of debt and to become wizer with the flow of money that does come in.
My problem is what if what I aks from the Law doesn't co-insice with my husband's requests? What abut others in our lives too --who get filled first and to what reasons.
For instance my husband wanted me to work outside the home and he aksed this many times--I know. I did too for a while until I kept finding other things to do inthe home and with my husband. So for years we or I struggled with this. Finally I just decided that the best place for me was in the home so that I could take care of him and his needs and the house and it's needs and help him grow. He likes what he does--working three jobs. Don't get me wrong here, It is not my choice that he works those jobs. He likes them! When he got a raise I told him that he didn't have to work three jobs anymore----but he refused that and he likes what he does. Mind you those three jobs one is the main one and the other two are just every other weekend. One of the is Crisis and sometimes he never gets called or needs to go out. He is at home and just needs to stay by the phone. He has a beeper and cell phone for that job. So The Law of Attraction eventually worked in both our favors. It took time though.
I am in full agreeance with you, my friend...using the Law of Attraction is a very effective way of manifesting our needs. The unfortunate part of it is that too often people make poor choices...what seems an imperative one day may not have importance a few months down the road because our lives are in a constant state of change, Our needs, desires and problems change over time. Yes, I do utillze this in my own life but always in conjunction with a certainty that what I ask for is in my highest and greatest good. Sorcerers and magicians for centuries have concluded riuals with "As above, so below."...in order for something to be manifest in the physical plane (below), it needs to take shape in the realm of spirit (above). The more thought energy that we apply, as you've mentioned, the greater and quicker the result. I've noted that people will give up way too easily when making a request...they have this notion in their minds that the Creator is going to reach down and plop a stack of money (or whatever they are requesting)on the floor, simply because they've asked but they don't want to do the work needed. I work with magick and I know that when using a method like divine signs (I have a hub almost completed on this BTW) where we request to be shown a specific sign, it is imperative that we follow the internal guidance we recieve in the form of intuition. A request for an extra $20, as an example, may come as a result of helping somebody or finding it on the sidewalk, usually in a spot we seldom walk but feel strongly urged to do so, for no reason we can think of. My point is that this is a very effective tool for manifesting our needs and desires but the actual manifestation may often arrive in an unusual manner and we have to be aware.
Yes, the aspect of health is a sticky topic. If it is part of our path, as you've suggested, no amount of work with the Law of Attraction is going to change that. Sometimes, yes, that illness is a requirement for us to learn essential lessons. For me the key ingedient involves the simple phrase "in the highest and greatest good".
Bard of Ely does make a valid point about greed...if a person is lead to believe that anything they desire will come to them, well, how can I put this delicately? Not many people are mature enough to use this method wisely, like a kid in a candy store with a blank check, so to speak. There is a strict code of ethics in place, for those who begin to travel the path of the mage or witch...wishing harm on another will result in it being visited on them threefold. How long would it take for somebody to begin using the Law of Attraction to obtain petty revenge? If people in general have this notion that they can obtain anything they want, you can be certain it will be used in this manner. Whether it is effective or not is not the issue...as with all things, it is our thoughts that control our physical world. My point is not to argue but state that people really need to have some level of moral decency and a well-grounded knowledge of using this tool before they begin to apply it. No offense to you in any way, but watching a movie about it is hardly providing sufficient understanding of the underlyting components for most people.
I do agree fully though, that our thoughts and visualizations, fused with the emotions one would feel as if the object of their need or desire was already within their grasp, is extremely powerful. Unfortunately, we live in a society where almost anything we need is at our fingertips. People give up very easily if they don't see immediate results...and we won't talk about erroneous religious teaching. Ha, New Age indeed...lol. Their ignorance is only overshadowed by the arrogance.
Great hub, my friend and it seems you've stirred up some interesting discussion. Way to go!
Thank you Bright for your comments. I understand fully what you speak of. I am not into magic perse but know--or now know what it takes to do certain things. I didn't take any offense at anythng that you brought up. I should come visit your hubs alot more. As I say in the hub Why I chose the name Lady Guinevere--I sit on the fence of both worlds--magic and Christian---so not sure what I really am--I mean no real label. Chapter 4 of my book delves deeper into the spritual learning and awareness that I have gone through. That will be posted next week sometime!
I'm with the Bard on this one, but thank you for a thoughtful hub and a good explanation of the theory behind the Law of Attraction.
I think there is something to the notion that visualizing what you want can be a very effective goal-setting tool, but it seems that people always have to take a marginally good idea and run with it until it makes no common sense whatsoever. I think this is what has happed with "The Law of Attraction." It's kind of like MLM marketing--a few people made a lot of money off of saying what people want to hear, and now the whole thing has become "The Law of Attraction," right up there with gravity and thermodynamics. I think that's a bit much, really.
Thanks again and all the best to you!
Pgrundy,
Thanks for the comment and your input. Not everyone can agree on everything. That's the beauty of LIFE. If everyone did the same things and believed the same things--then we wouldn't have RAINBOWS. I love rainbows, don't you?
Hello lady Guinevere I'm sorry I've taken so long to get back to you I've skimmed through yours and the Bard of Ely's comments of the law of attraction. You both make some valid points and I'm not going to suggest that I fully understand this fenomina. First of all calling it "The Law of Attraction" is a very good marketing plow. The physics theory says that like energy tentds to be attracted to like. The overall spiritual story seems to be free will, wich makes choice one of ower most powerfull abilities. The question; what will I be happy with?, may be much more relevant than; what will make me happy?. We always have the opportunity to consciously choose our actions rather than reacting.
This all leads to the need to understand what is true for each of us now, so that we can become aware of what we will be happy with. The willingness to be aware changes our ability to be conscious wich ultimately affects our choices. All have to be done in real time "now" to be affective.
Todd,
Thanks for the comment. I think you have some validity in this also. For me it works, I don't ask for things that are outrageous--like the biggest and most expensive car on the market or the biggest and most expensive house----those are just come and go things anyway. I try to ask for things that will help others and not only myself. I just keep remembering what Jesus said in the Bible Ask and You shall receive, Seek and you shall find, Believe it is will happen......He didn't put any stipulations on it. Be careful what you wish for though--as each action will cause an equal re-action. That is called the "Tipple Effect". Make sure it is what the good of everyone is because your wish might just devestate someone else's life. Jesus said also Everything in Moderation.
Lady Guinevere - Great hub. Interesting comments from viewers as well. I'll share a little of my perspective right or wrong!
Thoughts ARE things. If they were NOT - then an EEG machine would not work as it would have nothing to read.
As for law of attraction - it does work.... but it works more on bringing events required for our soul personalities growth than it does for material things.
Granted it does work for material things too- however if there are things the soul personality needs to learn, those things will take precedence. Our greatest and truest purpose for life is to grow within, not accumulate material wealth.
To add to my comments, I have no option but to bring into my thoughts - "reincarnation." --- It is my personal belief that we live many lives on our journey to enlightenment and because of the law of attraction we are at times born into life situations for learning. This explains why we have the situation with people living under circumstances where material growth is next to impossible.... Yet in those situations, the soul will be attracting experiences required for greater learning.
Thoughts are things!!!
Yes we can "influence the material" aspect of our lives..... but if it hinders our soul personalities growth, it (the material dreamed of) will be delayed until necessary lessons are learned.
Those are my thoughts- written as brief as can be... LOL - I have not got the necessary time to put into writing a book.... but that is what is needed to take this point to a deeper more complete level.
May my ideas/thoughts bring some understanding to those in doubt/wonder.... but more importantly, may my thoughts bring greater wonder to those who believe themselves to be without doubts on the topic of the secret!
Love Light and Laughter
Neil
Thank you very much for you kind comments Neil. I do understand what you are talking about. It takes many lifetimes to become Christ-Lke and I don't mean the Jesus Christ---as in all knowing all angles and all lessons--there is NO WAY one could learn this in just one lifetime.
In the the middle of my long winded comment I attempted to connect with some of the comments above regarding the "law of attraction." .... I am not trying to bring this into a discussion on reincarnation... ;-)
Neil,
You inadvertently did with your comment: To add to my comments, I have no option but to bring into my thoughts - "reincarnation." --- It is my personal belief that we live many lives on our journey to enlightenment and because of the
Yes the law of attraction works--Thought are Things--no mater what you think is just a passing thing turns out that the Universe picked up on that one! Hahahaha!!!
Lesson--Be careful what you think and put out there--it will come back to you! LOL
LOL - Aint it great! "hugs!
Yeah!! lol!!
Like the saying goes, "Be Careful What You Wish For"!
Ah.... but by including it, (reincarnation) I resonded to the comments made by others above. Guess it could be "their thoughts coming back to them through me" .... LOL - Like I said - "Aint it great"
Confession time. I've never heard of this Law of Attraction. I'll have to research it more.
Great hub!

I totally agree with what you say. I definitely believe that we get what we desire only when that desire is backed with total conviction. Even circumstances can be changed for the better when we REALLY want to change it. Thumps up!!!
