After reeling from the devastation wrought by twin supertyphoons Ketsana and Parma, the Philippines received a much needed assist from NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.  The country certainly needed  all the help it can get in it’s ongoing rehabilitation process.

“It’s hard to explain because it’s something that is impossible for us to relate to, the amount of devastation, the tragedy,” Kobe was quoted as saying during a recent interview with fanhouse.com which was then posted on youtube.  He also gave a few words of encouragement for the Filipinos, saying that because of their remarkable strength and pride, he has no doubt that they will overcome the tragedies delivered by these typhoons.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, who is now in the thick of his preparations for their title-retention bid in the upcoming 2009-2010 NBA season, recounted his experiences with the fun-loving Filipino fans during his last visit to the country in July.  He conducted a series of basketball clinics and light scrimmages at the fully-packed Ultra dome, which until now still houses hundreds of evacuees.

Bryant, who had already visited the Philippines three times, was also open to returning to the country and help out in the rehabilitation and recovery process.
