KEEP THE FLAG FLYING
59The Silent Majority Speaks Out
Hello good friends and neighbors. My name is Sharon Katie Taylor and I am hoping this is going to be a grand ride for us all. I am writing in this hub to communicate certain facts concerning our ever-changing society and ways in which we may improve our circumstances in this life. I will from time to time add comments of others to verify the truthfulness of what is being stated on our hub. We will do our best not to place untruths on the site and will investigate to our best abilities true facts of the issues about which we wish to discuss.
Everything will be above-board, so please feel free to contact us with the proper information if we mess up. Thank you in advance for helping to keep us truthful in our efforts.
We look forward to a lively hub.
A Bit About the Author
I grew up in a small farming community in western Kentucky. My fondest memories are of stepping lively behind my Dad as he pegged holes for me to place stalks of tobacco into. Then on the way back, I would add water to each hole and he would fill it in and pack it tightly. These are good memories of living in a free country where we were allowed to live and move and have our being.
The small farm carried with it responsibilities as well as fun times. Chores must be done before a meal was served. One of my chores was to go into the back forty and gather the cows. Well, with little brother in tow, off I would go. At the edge of the creek, I would yell, "Sookie!" We could hear the cows coming beyond the hill. Knowing it would take some time, we would play on a long tree limb jutting out from an old tree. The limb was long and a bit rounded. About three fourths of the way down the limb, a curve formed what we called a saddle. At the top of that sunken saddle was a part of the limb that favored a saddle horn. Then the rest of the limb jutted out forming the horses' head. I would jump in the saddle and my brother would ride me up and down, up and down; then he would jump on and I would ride him up and down. We would ride the horses until the cows came home.
I wrote this little story to tell you how very special my younger days were. In our house there was always talk of politics and issues dealing with our daily lives. We truly had freedom of speech. This is where I learned many of the values which have taken me through many trials in my life. My Dad was a true patriot. He taught us everything we needed to know about our founding fathers and their great concepts which were placed in a document entitled the 'Constitution' of the United States of America. We learned the pledge of allegiance, not merely as an educational document, but one in which we could place our trust and hopes. Every time my Dad heard the pledge or passed a flag, he saluted; not only for himself and us, but for all those who did not return from the great war.
I have many stories to share...in time. Now I wish to welcome you to our hub. We hope you will enjoy what you see. Thanks for listening.
