Leading Actress Kate Winslet was a huge hit at last nights Oscars. Wearing a Yves Saint Laurent Gown and a unusual but cute hair do Kate Winslet was a huge hit on Oscars red carpet and walked away with a Oscar for her part in the movie, " The Reader " where she played a former concentration camp guard having a affair with a teenager. Previous to winning this Oscar Kate Winslet had been nominated six times for a Oscar and tonight she finally had her moment.

Kate Winslet went on to say that she had been practicing her Oscar acceptance speech since she was eight years old and her Oscar had been a shampoo bottle. She thanked her husband and children for supporting her in her work. She went on to say thank you to Anthony and Sidney refering to producers Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack who both died last year.

In 2008 in order to stop rumors that she was dating him Kate Winslet said that she was best friends with her co star from Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio and really good friends but just friends. She said that DiCaprio is very close to her family and that her children call DiCaprio, Uncle Leo.

Kate was nominated for a Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in Titanic in 1997 but she did not win and a lot of people including her wondered why. Winslet herself said that after she didn't win a Oscar for Titanic she was quite bitter. But in time she got over it.

Kate lends her voice to the animated film " Flushed Away " where she plays a rat.

Kate has said several times that her favorite color is dark purple.

And believe it or not but Kate Winslets favorite all time movie is, Silence Of The Lambs.

Kate Winslets first film was in 1994 and was Heavenly Creatures. She played Juliet.

Both of Kate's parents were actors.

In 1998 she became the youngest actress ever to be nominated twice for a Oscar.

Kate Winslet says that there is not a lot of things that embarrasses me. I'm the type of actress that believes in exposing myself.

The one thing Kate Winslet has never done that she would like to do is meet Brad Pitt. I would like to shake his hand she says.
