Keep Your Newborn Babies Safe (Part IV) - Transportation Safety

DON'TS

• Don't ever travel with your newborn on your lap. My baby uncle got killed this way.
• Don't ever wrap the seatbelt around your newborn.
• Don't ever put your infant's car seat in the front seat of a car.
• Don't ever leave your newborn baby in a car alone. A co-worker of mine was supposed to drop off his son at the daycare. But somehow he forgot about his son being in the car with him, so he drove straight to work instead. His newborn baby was left alone in his hot car sleeping for hours. By the time he went back to his car, his son was dead already. I could feel his pain, when I learned about the tragedy.
• Don't ever get disturbed or distressed by the crying of your baby. This happened a year ago, a witness described that a mother was distressed by her newborn's crying, she kept leaning backward attempting to soothe her upset infant, what happened next was terrifying. She accidentally hit the freeway center divide, her car lost control and hit a big semi-truck, she and her infant were killed instantly.
• Don't ever compromise on any of these safety rules.

DOS

• Do read your infant car seat manual and install it properly in your vehicle.
• Do use a rear-facing newborn car seat until your baby is around a year old, or weighs at least 20 pounds.
• Do put your infants' car seats in the back seat of a car.
• Do apply calmness and vigilance while driving.
• Do pull over if you get too distressed from your crying baby.
