Keeping Kosher as possible

All of us are on "special diets"

I sent this blog, initially,to address some one's question about why other people get insulted when Jewish people can't eat their food, because they keep kosher. Someone suggested that they just tell the cook that they are on a special diet. It got me thinking about every dining out experience that i have had with my MOT(members of the tribe-fellow Jews) I wanted to point out that it wouldn't be difficult to keep as kosher as possible in a restaurant, because i have not eaten a dinner out with a Jewish person who doesn't have specific dietary needs. I've been to enough Saturday AM noshes to know that the waitress brings a notebook, not an order pad. "Dry toast, but not too dry" "well done eggs, but not burned" "white not yellow cheese- i'm allergic to food dyes" and of course - our favorite - "no msg". Sometimes i wish that i could hide under the table when a real neurotic eats with us. Here goes, the best order yet : 1.THE DRINK "Hot Water with lemon, on the side"-oh, do u have raw sugar? i can't have chemical sweeteners, or white sugar " 2.THE ENTREE " Omelet made with egg whites only, but can u make sure it isn't runny?..but don't burn it." 3.SIDES "I'd like turkey bacon,(oh & be sure it's well done),and could u wrap it in a paper towel for a minute, hon? 4.BREAD " Dry wheat ( u don't have spelt do u??? ) toast,-heels please" 5.SALAD "no iceberg lettuce, please rewash it before u bring it to me(i have lots of food sensitivites), do u mind repeating those[50]salad dressings ,please?... oh thanks, just oil & vinegar,on the side" 6. DESSERT- after1/2 hour of agonizing soul searching "we'll take the sherbet, with 5 spoons" .Expect at least 3-4 items to be returned for correction. This sounds very exaggerated, i know, but i bet there is another MOT out there with a topper. Any restaurant serving jewish people food, know that there will be at least 20 changes to the order. WE have been on special diets, ever since I can remember. It shouldn't be difficult to keep as kosher as possible because we have always specified and over-specified,how we would like our food.. Our restaurants are used to it, and we eat out A LOT. When we like a place, we go there ,all of the time. I find that just saying that I don't eat meat- can keep things simple, everywhere i go.

I forgot to tell you-this is all tongue-in-cheek. As a jewish woman, i wrote this to be funny to anyone who is or has eaten out with jewish people. You wouldn't believe my special requests ,when i eat out. I love our quirkiness and think we are humorous. I was making fun of me.
