Kelly McGillis is probably best known for her role in the movie "Top Gun" starring opposite Tom Cruise. She has been in the news lately for admitting that she is gay.  Kelly now 51 says its time to be true to one self.

Does it take a lot for a gay person to come out of the closet or is it much easier now than say ten years ago? These days being gay might be more acceptable and even normal in some circles but coming from an older generation and having kept the "secret" under the carpet for so long might be a different story al together.

Born in Newport Beach California Kelly dropped out of school to become an actress. According to McGillis she's been trying to come to terms with being gay since the age of 12 years and it was the movie "The Monkey's Mask" that sparked the lesbian thing up again.

Surely it can't be easy at the age of 51 to start a "new life" but maybe a person can at least be a bit happier not having to live a "double life" and like anything in a celebrities world it will blow over sooner than later.
