In May of 2009, I participated in the 100 Hubs in 30 Days HubChallenge here on HubPages. I signed up for 100 hubs in 30 days, said I'd be happy with 50, and didn't end up making it to either goal. (I think I would have made it to 50, but we went camping in the Black Hills for the last week of the challenge instead, a choice I am fine with.) I did, however, make it to 200 hubs before we left, and I am pretty pleased about that even if I didn't reach my original goals.

I enjoyed the challenge because it gave me an excuse to write several hubs I'd been wanting to write for a long time and had just never got around to before. I also found, however, that burnout quickly set in after scarcely more than a week of my original four hubs per day pace and I started writing hubs that I felt did not meet my usual standards. I took a break and came back working at a slower pace and with renewed enthusiasm. I didn't meet either goal as a result, but with a couple exceptions, was much more satisfied with the quality of the hubs that resulted.

I already have my "hubography" and a listing of all my gardening hubs, but I thought considering the special nature of the challenge, I would create a hubography just for my challenge hubs.

A Complete List of My 41 HubChallenge Hubs

1. My first #HubChallenge hub, What Is Your Sexuality?, was actually the second in a series that also includes What is Your Gender Identity?, which I'd published a few days before the challenge began.

2. Wind Energy in Iowa was also the second in a series. (Wind Energy in Nebraska was the first.)

3. My third hub was one I've been wanting to write for awhile. Like many others, I've found the Transition Town movement deeply inspiring and I enjoyed writing a short introduction to the concept for Americans with Transition Towns in the United States.

4. My fourth hub was an answer to a request by ngureco: Butter or Margarine: Which is Healthier?

5. Zoysia Lawns continued a series I'm working on about various alternatives to the traditional lawn.

6. My sixth HubChallenge hub was inspired by a request by The Real Tomato for a hub about the native trees of Florida. I have never been to Florida and don't know the first thing about its native trees, but the request did inspire me to write Native Trees of Nebraska. If you DO know anything about the native trees of Florida, consider popping over and answering her original request. It's still open!

7, 8, 9, and 10. I then got started on a short series about alternative treatments for ADHD, a topic that has interested me for some time, but which I'd never written about before. The interplay of mind, body, and environment fascinates me, so I especially enjoyed writing ADHD Alternative Treatments: Nature Therapy. My other ADHD hubs included Adult ADHD Treatment Without Medication, ADHD Alternative Treatments: Diet, and ADHD Camps.

11. My eleventh hub for the HubChallenge, Erosion Control Mats, was one of my least favorites to write, but the topic was one I've done some research on for my own use and I thought I might as well write down what I'd learned in the form of a hub and hopefully help others looking for the same information.

12. My family marks many special occasions with a tree planting, and the practice is becoming increasingly common around the world. I wrote about it with my twelfth HubChallenge hub: Memorial Tree Planting.

13. For various reasons, in the last few years I've gone from a passive supporter of gay rights (including gay marriage) to an active one. I explain some of my beliefs on the subject in Support Gay Marriage, Support Religious Freedom.

14. I support women's rights even more fervently than gay rights, and am a proud, lifelong feminist. Another request by ngureco, Can Rape Be Possible in Marriage?, resulted in a bit of a rant, but I hope, at least, a useful and informative one: Marital Rape.

15 and 16. Returning to less controversial topics, I decided to write a couple companions for one of my most successful Squidoo lenses, Endangered Horse and Pony Breeds. The results were Dual Purpose Chicken Breeds, which focused on a mix of common and rare chicken breeds, and Rare and Heritage Cattle Breeds.

17. One of my very favorite topics is wildlife gardening. Having already written a number of hubs about birds, butterflies, and other pretty critters to be found around a wildlife-friendly garden, I moved on to the slimy ones with Attracting Frogs and Toads to Your Garden. I know not everyone shares my belief that frogs and toads are cute, but I think most people enjoy the free bug control a healthy amphibian population provides!

18. My family loves a good puzzle and we're pretty good at them too, if I do say so myself. My eighteenth challenge hub, How To Do Jigsaw Puzzles Like an Expert, shares some of the tips I've learned in a lifetime of puzzling.

19. For years, my father has bought my mother a dumptruck load of compost every year on their anniversary. I have continued the family obsession with really good dirt and added another to my growing collection of articles on the topic with Compost Tumblers: Fast, Easy Compost.

20. For my 20th HubChallenge hub, I did another hub I've been wanting to write for a long time. One of the central programs of the Transition Town Movement mentioned in #3 above is The Great Re-Skilling, which focuses on reviving old-fashioned skills from gardening and livestock raising to blacksmithing and basket weaving, in preparation for a lower energy, more decentralized future. Although others have addressed some of the same issues more eloquently than I, I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to add my two cents to the discussion and am thankful that the HubChallenge finally gave me the kick in the pants I needed to sit down and write them out.

21. My 21st HubChallenge hub was another i'd been wanting to write for months. In frontier times, it was said that a squirrel could travel from the wilds of Maine to the banks of the Mississippi without ever once touching foot on the ground. Much of this magnificent, lost forest was made up of oaks and various nut trees, which dropped layers of nuts and acorns half a foot thick in good years. Animals and humans alike gorged themselves on the bounty. It's a bounty that has largely vanished with the old growth forests that produced it, and it's become one of my minor obsessions to someday recover it. With that in mind, I wrote Managing Woodlots for Wildlife: Mast, a less idealistic and more practical expression of that dream. I hope it will inspire others to plant oaks and nut trees, as it did me.

22. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with my work on Green Construction Jobs and How To Get Them, the third in a series that includes the better quality Wind Energy Jobs and How To Get Them and Solar Energy Jobs and How To Get Them. I was starting to burn out and my heart just wasn't in the topic that day, and I intend to go back and revise the hub in the future.

23. I perked back up a bit with Riparian Buffer Zones, a topic which allowed me to expound simultaneously on the benefits of trees and sound watershed management. You never know what sorts of weird things will get a tree hugger all hot and bothered! See if you can spot the plug for oaks and nut trees.

24. Returning to the topic of wildlife gardening, I wrote another hub for creepy-crawly lovers with How To Attract Snakes To Your Garden.

25. Next I added another hub on rare livestock breeds with Rare and Endangered Sheep Breeds.

26 and 27. Burnout still threatening, I revised some articles I'd written for a (now defunct) website about one of my greatest passions, the North American prairie. The Prairie Ecosystem: An Introduction and The Pronghorn: Outrunning Its Enemies were the result.

28. I took a break from the challenge and returned about a week later with another topic that I've been researching for my own use: Cordless Electric Lawn Mowers.

29, 30, and 31. I followed that up with several articles one of my most frequent topics, women's health, including Natural Treatments for Endometriosis, Dietary Fiber for Menstrual Health, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids for Menstrual Health.

32. For my 32nd HubChallenge hub, I continued with the health theme and wrote another ADHD hub: ADHD Alternative Treatments: Sleep.

33. Choosing a Solar Shower was another hub that I do not classify so much "interesting" as "useful" (I hope.)

34. About this time, we set the dates of our camping trip for sure and I realized I probably wasn't going to make it to 50 hubs for the challenge. Determined to make it at least to 200 total, I started browsing through the requests looking for inspiration and stumbled across this one by amandalneep. The result: Health Supplements for Vegetarians: Do You Need Supplements?

35. Thus inspired, I added another to my collection of nutrition hubs: A Salad a Day Keeps the Doctor Away: The Health Benefits of Green Salads, also answering a request, this time by guidebaba.

36. For my next hub, I returned to the fascinating (to me, anyway) subject of watershed management with Solve Drainage Problems With a Rain Garden.

37. Next I wrote on a topic I've found interesting for awhile: The Basics of Living Walls, Green Walls, and Vertical Gardens.

38. The topic of rain gardens and a couple days of rainy weather reminded me of another topic I'd been meaning to write about: How To Repel Mosquitoes Naturally. Die, bloodsuckers, die!

39. Another women's health article was next: The PCOS Diet: Natural Treatment for PCOS.

40. Somewhat randomly, as I frantically wrote, packed, and prepared for the trip, I decided to write about a favorite winter hobby of myself and my husband. Or the accoutrements thereof, at least. Choosing Snowshoe Accessories: Snowshoe Poles, Gaiters, and More.

41. Midafternoon of the day before we left for our trip, I knocked out number 41, my 200th hub, while my daughter napped. I was thinking about her, hence the topic: Talking To Your Baby: Does It Boost IQ? Frustratingly, because I was preoccupied with about 483719829859 other things, I don't feel like it was my best effort ever, but it is an important topic and I will likely return to clean it up a bit later.

So now we come to the end at last. 41 hubs in slightly more than 3 weeks. Not bad, self, not bad.

Congrats anyway. I didn't make my goal either, but to be honest it just helped me get some things written that I had been sitting on for quite some time.
