Writing a resume that works!

Many people have that burning question in the back of their mind "What should I include in my resume?" I want to dedicate this hub to folks who want assistance with resume-writing. In most cases, a resume should be one page long. However, depending on what field you work in and what level you are at in your career, there are some exceptions. Here is the list of elements to include:

  • Contact Information: name, address, phone number and an email address. Make sure to use a professional email address and not one with unprofessional terms in it such as "hottie."
  • Objective: if you are going for a specific job, the objective should simply be the job title for that job (i.e. Compliance Manager).
  • You can also include an optional field before getting into your professional experience, such as a "Technical Summary" or "Career Profile."
  • Professional Experience: Previous work experience, achievements, and solutions developed.
  • Education
  • In some cases you may want to include one of the following sections:

- Honors

- Certifications

- Volunteer Work

Overall, your resume should showcase your skills and experience in a way that sparks the recruiters' interest almost immediately.
