Keys in Protecting your Business

Do you remember the first time you started your business? You never thought you will go this far and yet here you are at the summit of success. You know that even though you have already achieved so much, it does not end here and you continue to work hard for the company that you have grown to love so much.

However, you also know that although success is already at your side, this does not mean you are already invincible and that there is no way that your company will come crumbling down. In fact, you are very much aware that ongoing protection of your business against all possible harms is necessary to keep things running smoothly.

So how can a business owner succeed in protecting one’s business?

Protect your company with business insurance

Many lenders in the financial market offer business insurance to many different types of businesses. As a business owner, you probably do not have the luxury of time to traverse from one lending company to another but you still have to do this in order to find the best insurance coverage policy for your business.

Thorough comparison of different policies from different insurance companies is the best way to will end up with the most efficient one. It is also wise to rely on a trustworthy insurance agent who will help you in every step of the way to ensure that you are on the right track.

Protect your company against bad employees

Every business owner knows this hard fact: bad employees can break a company. In fact, a number of companies have gone crumbling down because of employees that have become a liability to the business. Because of this, it is only right that starting from the hiring procedure, you ensure that you hire the cream of the crop with trustworthy character who will be an asset to your company.

One way to achieve that is to include an intensive employee background check on the hiring procedure of your company. All potential candidates applying for your business should undergo this as well as drug testing to see to it that you do not hire anybody who has been involved with fraud or theft, or someone who is a drug user.

An effective employee background check provides information about a person’s background including criminal records, educational and employment history, driving records, medical records, incarceration records, character references, former addresses, Social Security number, sex offender’s list, military records, professional licenses, and many others.

This is important because for one bad employees can damage the reputation of your business. If your business involves childcare and you unknowingly hired a sex offender, and the word goes out, you can expect the number of your clients to reduce significantly.

Another reason is that employees contribute to the growth of the business. If you hired a web designer and you mistakenly hired a fraud who claimed to be an expert on HTML and Photoshop, but then you end up getting many complaints from customers because of poor designs and services, this will decrease profits for your business.

Protect your company against fire hazards

A fire accident can burn up your whole company and even if you are covered with an insurance policy, the damage it will do to your business will still be devastating. Because of that, it is imperative to ensure that your company building is safe from all fire hazards.

One way to do that is to install high quality fire safety devices such as fire sprinkler system, fire alarms, fire ladders and fire extinguishers throughout the building. Conduct fire drills among employees and train them how to use fire extinguishers to put out fires that are still small and has not yet spread.

Protect your company against bankruptcy

Hire a reliable and trustworthy accountant who will audit and manage finances of your business. However, it is very important that you know about accounting yourself because you also have to oversee and study the finances of the company. If you do not have any background on accounting, be sure to take up some courses on it as soon as possible.

It is not that difficult to protect your company if you know what the things that you should protect it against are and how you would be able to ensure that all possible harms are kept at bay.

Great hub, Erick! It's great, as a business owner, to be reminded of what should be "common sense". I have one issue with a bad employee.. she likes to call in "well" and play games on her phone when there's nothing else to do.. I'd fire her but I need the job.. I mean 'she' needs the job... never mind.. rats..
