    March 31, 2007

The Company took this voluntary recall action immediately after learning this morning from the FDA that wheat gluten supplied to Del Monte Pet Products from a specific manufacturing facility in China contained melamine. Melamine is a substance not approved for use in food. The FDA made this finding as part of its ongoing investigation into the recent pet food recall.

That's what I know, re:kibbles in bits....Forgive me for not trusting the money grubbers at del monte. they sicken my pet and a refund on the cheap food won't do it, they'll find themselves with a lawsuit.

I was curious if anyone else has had problems with Kibbles-n-Bits, since I don't see it on a recall list. My cat is dripping blood from his anus, and my dog has been throwing up since I've been feeding them this brand. I see several others have had occurances, so I'm not feeding it to them any more. It must be the food.

Both of our dogs eat Kibbles N Bits and have for several years. Its about the only thing the 2 of them will eat. Both are active and healthy dogs who visit the vet regularly, we have yet to have a problem with the food.

Hello, I am replying to the cat pooping blood. Today, August 3, 2007 have taken my dog to the vet due to pooping blood. He first started to vomit and then lost control of his vowels. He seemed to be out of it, no energy and looked like he was having stomache spasms. I have my dog now at the vet and they are running several tests including x-ray$. I asked my vet about recent recalls on pet food, however, none that I was feeding my dog. I purchased Kibbles and bits just 3 days ago and this was the only thing different that I could think of. My dog will eat table food (home made), however, does not eat regular dog food.

    Joseph,

Not all the pet foods which should be under recall were recalled. Just because a pet food isn't on the recall list doesn't make that pet food safe. Kibbles N Bits is one of the brands facing a Class Action Lawsuit for killing pets.

I used to feed my dogs Purina One dog food, then I recieved a sample of Kibbles N Bits and my dogs loved it. I tried mixing it in with the Purina One food, but they just ate the kibbles n bits pieces and left the POne. Now K n B is all they eat, but I see all these bad stories about K n B food. What should I do?

    Bobbi,

Make sure what ever you feed your dogs doesn't have Corn, Wheat, or Soy in the ingredients. If you continue to feed these grains to your dogs you will kill them.

My little angel Tsukiko was a perfectly healthy Affenpinscher. She had never been sick, and she was 2 years old. I ran out of her normal food (Eukanuba Yorkshire Terrier) & bought Kibbles N Bits at Wal-mart. She threw up on aTuesday morning, by that evening she had severe bloody diarrhea & would not drink. Wednesday I took her to the vet at 800 AM & they gave her an antibiotic & Subcutaneous fluids. They kept her for observation overnight & the next morning she was dead. I was devastated, I agonized thinking it was something I had done or not done. I just want to know if it was the food or not so I can rest easy.

I ran out of dog food 2 weeks ago. At the store, Kibbles Homestyle was on sale and I purchased it, not a brand i normally buy but thought i would try it. I gave this to my dog Sunday night. Monday morning my dog wouldnt eat, and as i watched for 2 hours she deteriorated fast, starting to lose equilibrium, vomiting, so I rushed her to Vet. It never crossed my mind this could be caused by the dog food. She stayed at the Vet for a week, we did IV's, lab tests, and did a blood transfusion to save her. Vet said she tested positive for Heartworms. I brought her home the following Monday. I was feeding her canned food relatiive to dry food. She was doing very well. THis Saturday morning, I gave her some of the Kibbles Homestyle, not thinking anything of it to a cause and maybe relative to her getting sick first time. 8 hrs later she was dead, and I found two vomit spots with this food, the same thing happened to her as did first time. I doubt this is a coincidence, especially after I googled it and am finding other cases over the internet. my email ducksta@gmail.com

I was at walmart and picked up Kibbles and Bits Brushing Bits instead of my dog's regular food. He began to become less energetic than he had been. I thought maybe because of other things. He then stopped eating-even the table scraps that he adored!! He then went off to his favorite spot to be alone in the basement. He was vomiting ,drinking a lot of water and he became too weak to even climb up the stairs or even stand up. He died a couple of days later. Nothing else in his environment had changed except for his food. The product was Kibbles and Bits Brushing Bites 83398LA June 04 10

I purchased a second bag of kibble and bits because my westie enjoyed the first bag. This time when she ate, she would vomit every night and had a hard time going for a poop. After a couple days of this I switched to can food to see what happens. She did fine. No vomiting and pooping just fine. So I gave her back some kibbles and bits, and back to the vomiting each night she ate it. Went back to can food and fine once again. Something is wrong with this food. I gave it to my son for his dog. That night his dog vomited all over. What is going on with this food. Please check it out. I did not keep the bag, but bought is July 1st 2009.

i have been feeding my dogs either kibbles and bits or purina or costco regular dry dog food for the past 3-5+++ years.

since purina is usually out of stock and we do not have a costco here, they've been on k&b. it's just about the only food that they will eat that didn't make them barf.

til now.. they have been eating it all the time, and we came back from a trip to az and forgot the bag we had at my inlaws, so my husband picked up a NEW bag, this sunday sept 6 2009, and they each ate a huge bowl of it sunday night.

my dane ate a little bit on monday morning and has refused it since. she became lethargic, nauseated, abdominal pain, weak, loose mushy stool, acted sore all over, dry dull pale tongue, dry nose, dry gagging, thick saliva boogers hanging from the mouth... my vet advised to give her pepto to calm her stomach, and it did, she made it through the night ok.

she was about 70-80 % normal this morning and wanted to eat. this was at 6 am.

at about 8 or 9 the vet called me again, and said that if she wanted to eat again to give her a bland diet of brown rice, cottage cheese, a little plain yogurt, and boiled turkey or chicken.

since this morning she has progressively gotten worse, she has refused to eat anything at all, and is now back to the same condition as she was last night. both times she has done this was about 12 hours after eating food from a brand new bag of KIBBLES & BITS.

now, the other vet has told me that there are no new cases of dog food contamination. however, i am 100% times 1000% positive that NEITHER dog has been able to get a hold of ANYTHING that can make them sick.

tonight, the other dog had a loose mushy stool, he is usually more constipated, so when he gets what we call "toothpaste poop" i pay attention.

i just spent my night, last night, laying on the garage floor with some old sheets, setting my phone to alarm me every hour in case i fell hard asleep, and trying to comfort my sick dog.

looks like i'll be there again tonight.

i have so far spent my night tonight, checking my dog every twenty minutes, talking to the vet, and trying to figure out a more comfortable way to sleep in my garage floor, while my dog lays on a crib mattress.

i am no vet, but she is definitely sick.

the vet tonight wants her to be seen first thing in the morning. we are self employed and have a small business, and we have NO MONEY, until we either get more work, or get paid by the people that don't think it's a priority to do their billing in reasonable timing. i had to count every piece of change in my house that i could find, just to be able to afford an $80 trip to the vet tomorrow.

i know that there is no NEW case of contaminated dog food. but i can tell you right now that SOMEBODY had to be the first one to discover that a bag or can or treat was bad in 2007.

and if this is a new one, and we're the first ones to be affected, i will not be taking this lying down. i'll be expecting my vet bills to be repaid to us, and to be reimbursed for the 24 dollars for a bag of the cheapest dog food in the store.

oh, and by the way, K&B's parent company better hope that my dogs do not die. especially my dane.

i find it hard to believe that a 7 yr old dane that has never had a health issue in her life can go from perfect and excited and happy and running around and going for car rides, to laying in pain on the floor for 2 days, and dry gagging every time i touch her just to pet her.

the cost of the vet and the bag of food will be the least of their problems if she dies.

I posted 2 times last night. My dog died at 4:13 this morning.

I will be having her tested to see why, and if it was the food, I will be posting it here, and anywhere else I can find a place.

    Brandy  says:

I cannot have my dog tested. Apparently you cannot test blood or stool from a dead dog. Only an autopsy, costing more than I can afford.

The vet was sure happy to try to get me to spend money on the other dog too, but didn't have the decency to call me 2 times in the middle of the night when my dog was dieing. He waited til I was in his clinic angry, and had his secretary get rid of me. He's about as worthless as nipples on a male pig, I promise you I'll not go to him ever again.

I'll also not buy this food, or feed it to my dogs ever again. My other dog ate it last night and had diarrhea within a couple hours. I fasted him all day, and gave him the brown rice, bland diet when we got home. He pooped and is fine so far. I cannot imagine taking the chance on him, and feed it to him as well. I'll never buy this food. I'll be making the dog his food at home for the rest of his life.

As for the vet, I'll deal with him later. I have a family to take care of in the mean time, and this site can do nothing for me when it comes to the vet's greedy, crappy attitude and laziness.

I submitted an online contact form to K&B and was contacted in return by a representative. They are sending me a package that I can mail back to them with some of this dog food I bought.

They will test my food and the production samples that match it. Hopefully it turns out fine, I'd hate to have another dog food recall out there again.
