Ask Susan Peters Kibbles 'N Bits Dog Food Review:

Corn caused itching. Wheat Middlings are just empty filler. Do you want to see what makes this product so tasty? Do you remember what "animal digest" is? Let me remind you....animal digest is what has fallen from the animal after it has digested what it has eaten. Let me show you what the label says this products uses for flavor....

Animal Digest (Source Of Chicken And Beef Flavors)

Now there are those people out there who simply refuse to believe Kibbles N Bits would use manure in their pet's foods. Let me ask you to think on this issue for just a minute and then see what you decide. Let's take a person, for instance, When a person begins the "digestion" process food is placed in the mouth for chewing. Digestion continues as the food passes to the stomach and is broken down to pass into the intestines for futher digestion. Digestion is complete once the person has had a bowl movement and fully evacuated the food from the human body. Why would obtaining human digest be any different from animal digest?

Because manufacturers need to ensure that dry foods have a long shelf life (typically 12 months) to remain edible through shipping and storage, fats used in pet foods are preserved with either synthetic or "natural" preservatives. Synthetic preservatives include butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), propyl gallate, propylene glycol (also used as a less-toxic version of automotive antifreeze), and ethoxyquin.

Propylene glycol are clear liquids used in antifreeze and deicing solutions.

Hydrochloric acid It is used in the production of chlorides, fertilizers, and dyes. Hydrochloric acid can cause immediate pain and burns of the mouth, throat, esophagus and gastrointestinal tract.

Anytime I see a Class Action filed against a company and the products the company produces I would not advise feeding their products to your pets. The pet owners have filed a Class Action against the company for killing their pets.

We should probably take time out from this review to remind ourselves of the good and bad effects of corn, wheat and soy in a cat or dog's diet. *Corn, wheat and soy are resonsible for fever, ear aches, ear infections, bad bread, dental disease, hair loss, dry and itchy skin, bloat, tumors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, arthritis, deafness, blindness, digestive problems, siezures, inflamed liver, inflamed kidneys, bladder problems, heart problems, and death. Oh yeah, for the good effects of these three grains - reduces the cost of pet food production.

My dog died on 3/16/07 (same day of the recall) from renal failure within 24 hours after ingesting Kibbles 'n' Bits. It made her violently ill within a couple of hours after eating it. However she had been eating Mighty Dog also before I gave her the one meal of Kibbles 'n' Bits. It's not on the recall list, but I have come across several entries on the net from others stating thier dog died after eating the Del Monte product. I have a partial bag and an unopened bag of it, but I will not use it for my one remaining dog since she also developed an upset stomach after one meal of it. I personally saw the effects of the product on my own two dogs. I refuse to use Del Monte products after this. I was also giving both dogs some the now recalled treats. My poor little pup never had a chance after ingesting so many of the tainted products. The remaining dog was eating Skippy canned dog food, so apparently that one is safe since she's alive and well.

u can see my rottweiler boys at my myspace page. they are healthy and they love kibbles n bits. i think kibbles n bits is ok because my rott boys are not getting sick. i was feeding them ol'roy multi-flavored biscuits in the 5 pound bag and that was making them sick.....i stopped with ol'roy biscuits and their bowel movements are back to normal now, they are more alert, and not drinking as much water now. in my case, its the ol'roy muli-flavored biscuits. kibble n bits is ok.

Do you know anything about Brandon Farms Organic Dog food? Their website (listed on the can) is never available. It's parent company is Blue Seal (I think), but according to the Blue Seal website, some of their food has been made at the Menu Foods plant (though they claim none of it has the wheat gluten).

The local Kroger store has begun carrying Brandon Farms, so I bought some last week. But since I can never access their website and can't find much about it on the internet...I"m not giving it to my dog until I know for sure it's ok. Just thought I'd ask you if you had heard about it.

I'm giving my dog Paul Newman's organic food for now. Brandon Farms is less expensive, so I was going to switch if it was good and no problems with the brand.

Thanks for any info you might have.

Jamie Young has a cookbook of affordable, easy-to-make dog food recipes. Grrrrowlicious Food for Hungry Dogs. The recipes are a good balance of raw food, cooked food, veggies and meat. I drooled over the photos: bacon and cheese cookies, chicken meatballs, fried rice. His website has some sample recipes, http://www.grrrr.com.au/dogfood

Dolores, thanks for the link!

Since they say this particular brand of can food is manufactured by Menu Foods, I'm not taking any chances on ANYTHING made by that Menu Foods company (even though they claim it is safe). Think I"ll just stick to Newman's Own dog food. Thanks again for your help.

Here's the Blue Seal quote below regarding their can dog food from the link:

"Our Blue Seal® branded canned pet food products are manufactured by Menu Foods, but are of the loaf category and do not contain wheat gluten or rice gluten. This category of canned product has not been recalled."

ML,

I'm working on Newman's Dog Food Reviews right now.

Susan, I'll be interested to read your review of Newman's.

Hope it gets a passing grade; otherwise, I've run out of choices for my dog! I just don't trust any brands right now except Newman's...for the moment. LOL

What is the pricing for Brandon Farms organics in all sizes?

FSDFS,

I was unable to obtain a price sheet for Brandon Farms. There is a store locator on the company's web site. Check for a supplier near you to find out what types are available in your area and the pricing for each product.

I'll get some reviews ready for you for each of the Brandon Farms products.

I have a Yorkie that only likes Kibbles-n-bits Country style dog food. And for the last few months I have gone to 5 differant stores, and see that you no longer make it. Could you tell me why, and could you please bring it back?
