  • Why can motorcycle racers walk away safely after crashes?AsiaOne2 days ago

EVER wonder why motorcycle racers, who have just crashed on the circuit, can still walk away without serious injuries? The answer lies in the "second skin" they have on.

It might be one story for you to dream about flying on your bike with the wind, performing killer stunts with bike somersaults and rushing into a crowd of cheering bombshells, but quite another to wake up in hell after you decided to play it real in life like a Hollywood bike hero. Nothing comes too close to being really safe, and if you thought the only main concern in smooth biking is avoiding potholes, you are really an ignoramus.

When it comes to safety, the auto industry has left not a stone untouched in tightening the security in a car. You have seat belts to keep you from plummeting headlong against the dashboard, plus the airbags up front to cushion the impact on your soft head during accidents. But the motorcycle industry has also revved up its gears to see that bikes are safer than ever, especially since bike rides are more accident prone than the box on four wheels.

So you might be wondering what kind of security your bike can have. Well, here are a few head-ups:

  1. The first and foremost aspect of bike riding safety is wearing important equipment- the helmet. Yes, yes, you may think of anyone riding with a helmet on to be a sissy, but that is hardly the case. If you are wearing a helmet, you are being smart, not a wuss. It is not only about being smart, it is about keeping your head right where it should be - on your neck. Wear a helmet that really fits your head size. Plus, many helmets are made of plastic. But the very good ones also contain materials like carbon fiber and kevlar. Helmets will not only protect you during collisions, but also against the wind, weather and flying gravels.
  1. The second important equipment piece to don are biker boots. Good sturdy ones are made of leather, so they are highly durable. They will keep your feet protected and flexible enough to be able to handle the equipment of your bike during rides easily. Note: you should get yourself a pair that is really good in securing your heel and toes.
  1. Cyclist pants are a necessity part of the safety gear that will keep your body sheathed from the wind and rain. You need to wear something that is comfortable, and rather not too tight. These pants can be made of leather, but it is also safe to choose some of other sturdy materials.

The next time you go biking around the city, make sure that you are all padded up. That way, you will be able to ride safely, without winding up dead or seriously injured.
