Kid Friendly Meals

There are many kid friendly meals that are easy and fun to make. With a little imagination creating a kid pleasing meal can be an enjoyable experience for all of you. The easiest way to create a kid friendly meal is to put a twist on classic foods. Here are a few suggestions for your fun meals.

Make mini hamburgers instead of full size. They are cute, easy to hold, and just plain fun! You can try making your own rolls, using store bought rolls, or even English muffins if you like. An added benefit is controlling the portion size, so food is not wasted when a small child can't finish an entire normal size burger.

Pizzas are popular in most parts of the world. Make your own at home and use personal sized crust to thrill your child. Have plenty of delicious and nutritious toppings and assist your child in making their own special pizza. Encourage your child to try different combinations of toppings.

Smoothies are a great source of nutrients and vitamins if using fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. Avoid using added sugar as fruits contain natural sweeteners. Instead of using ice cream, add a little milk or juice and you have a great breakfast.

Try tuna salad wrapped in tortillas, o English Muffins, on croissants (my favorite!), on crackers, or even in an ice cream cone! This will also work for chicken salad and possibly egg salad.

Pigs in a blanket is a great way to entice your child to eat hot dogs or mini sausage links. They are adorable wrapped in croissant rolls and most kids devour them. They are also very easy to make. Add a slice of cheese before rolling the croissant for the cheese lover.

Instead of serving your normal plain spaghetti, try using a different type of noodle. By varying the noodle choices, your kids are sure to be impressed with the selections. There are so many shapes to choose from, that it shouldn't be hard to try a new shape every week. Try ziti, radiator, rotini, and elbow macaroni with your tomato sauces. Also try alphabet or animal shapes in soups or cheese sauces.

Tacos can be boring. Try using tortilla chips instead. Serve your taco fillings on top of chips for a homemade taco salad. Of course this is a spin off of nachos which are a great kid friendly meal as well.

Sandwiches are fun to spice up. Heat your favorite sandwich up on the stove using the press or a small brick wrapped in foil to flatten the sandwich and allow it to heat evenly. Use two slices of cheese - one on each end to hold the bread together after the cheeses melt. Vary your meats to your child preference. For added flair, cut the prepared sandwich at an angle and watch the cheese ooze out.

It doesn't take a lot of work to change a classic meal into a meal that will excite your child. Just remember that kids love small things! It is so much more fun to eat little food than to try and eat adult sized items. And don't forget the power of cheese! Adding a little cheese to the meal seems to make it taste better! Try some new ways to serve your food and observe what works for your family. You never know what new family favorite will emerge when you try something different.
