You can find all kinds of kids birthday ideas from books, magazines, various websites, and so on. There are as many kids birthday ideas as there are the people that enjoy them.

Some of the best kids birthday party ideas I've heard are those that have been passed on down through generations in families. This can be something very special that will create memories your child will treasure as they grow older.

For example, I know a mother of eight children who tells her children their birth stories every year. Many of her children are grown now and they all consider this a priceless gift. This year she created a card for each of her children where the birth stories were written in her own hand so that she may tell them their story even when she is gone.

Another mother carries on a tradition which started from a kids birthday idea that she read about several years ago. Every year on the eve of her child’s birthday she loads the hand railings on the staircase with helium filled balloons of every color. The child appears at the top of the stairs the next morning and makes the trip through the balloon tunnel stopping only at the last step to retrieve the first present of the day.

Another great kids birthday idea is to make a piñata in the shape of the child’s favorite animal. Fill it with lots of sweets and add a couple of small presents. I’ve never met a child who wasn’t more thrilled with every swing taken at the treasured piñata. Not only does the birthday child love this birthday ritual but even the adults love taking their turn with the bat.

My best friend’s grandmother passed down a birthday tradition that had been one of her mother’s kids birthday ideas. Every year the birthday boy or girl received a special birthday verse that had been written just for them. The verses were collected throughout the years and placed in a special book which was also made by the grandmother. This unique woman is no longer living but the birthday tradition lives on. Every year, the book is opened and the collection of verses is read once more. This birthday celebration was so special to the children and grandchildren that they now write the verses and create the books for yet another generation to enjoy.
