Amazon Kindle Has Been Upgraded to International

For all of those folks who have been holding out from buying an Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device, your wait has been rewarded. Amazon has just announced the latest generation of its 6" wireless reading device available on October 19, 2009 has both U.S. and international wireless capabilities.

What a boon this is for international business travelers. They can use their Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device both here and overseas to read in between business meetings, during long hotel stays, or traveling to and from various cities. This device can be purchased and shipped to just about any country in the world and be used. Pretty cool, huh?

Why Buy a Kindle? What is Wrong with Books?

If you are a book lover, you may not want to give up the tried and true real book for an electronic version, but there are some very good reason why you should.

  1. Saving money. Once you purchase a Kindle Wireless Reader, you will no longer have to pay as high a price for each individual book. You will get back the price of the kindle within the first few months you own it if you are a regular reader.
  2. Saving the earth. Whether you want to face it or not, books are a large contributor to paper consumption and waste. By reading ebooks, you are saving a lot of paper from being used which in turn will keep the trees where they should be--planted in the earth.
  3. Convenience. An Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device can hold about 1500 books. You can cart your entire library around with you to read anytime in a device thinner and lighter than even one book would be.
  4. Getting books sooner. Most books are coming out in an electronic format before they do in paper format these days. That means you would be getting valuable information sooner than your peers.
  5. Readability. Amazon has worked very hard to make the screen of the Kindle read just like a book, so it is easy on the eyes, or at least as easy as a book would be.
  6. Adjustable print size.  For those of us who are moving towards needing bifocals, you no longer have to pay premium prices for large print books.  The Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device has adjustable font size.
  7. The cool factor. Face it, a Kindle is just cool.

What About My Wireless Bill? Won't It Skyrocket?

One of the cool factors about the Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device is that Amazon takes care of the wireless bill. That is included in the price of the Kindle and the electronic books for the Kindle. So, nope.  Your wireless bill is not affected by the Amazon Kindle usage.

Browse Your Favorite Book Store at Home

One of my personal favorite features of the Amazon Kindle is the ability to browse the book store at home. I am a browser, and when I go to a book store to pick out new books, I like to read the back covers to decide if I want to read that particular book right now.

Owning a Kindle brings that ability into your home. You can download a small portion of a book without any fee to decide if you want to buy that book to read. This feature allows you to browse at your heart's content, and do it all from the comfort of your own home. Amazon has more books that most local bookstores anyway, so you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for to download to your reading device. I really like my Kindle and I wish that the international feature had been available when I bought it. Although it does solve some Christmas present ideas for my family in Europe!

It would be nice if every gadget we bought was automatically upgraded when they came out with a new one, but then companies wouldn't have anything left to sell. :)
