Kindle iPhone App
61Already own an iPhone but want to read Kindle books? Then you are in luck because all you need to do is download the Kindle iPhone App from the Apple iTunes Store (the app is free) and you can start reading Kindle books from Amazon.
Of course you'll have to pay for the ebooks themselves. Yes you knew there would be a catch didn't you. Well it's not really a catch, but a way for Amazon to get a whole lot of new customers to download their Kindle books directly to their iPhone.
Kindle 2 vs Kindle iPhone App
Benefits:
- You don't have to buy a Kindle book reader
- Color screen (the Kindle reader is just black and white)
- If you do own a Kindle, you can read all your current purchases on your iPhone and even keep track of what page you are up to on either machine.
- Get access to all of Amazon's Kindle books.
Disadvantages:
- The small window makes reading books difficult - it's ok in short bursts but you wouldn't want to read a whole novel this way
- You only get books, and not blogs, magazines or newspapers like you can with the Kindle
- You still need a web browser to buy your books from Amazon (you can't buy directly through the app) so you'll need a browser app as well if you plan on doing it that way
Overall, if you are an avid reader then it's still worth getting a Kindle 2 just for the much more pleasurable reading experience (after all that's why you would buy it in the first place), but if you only plan on buying the odd book a few times a year and don't mind the small screen size then the Kindle iPhone App should be sufficient enough to get you through those boring train rides.
