Kings College Guildford Crusin
65KINGS COLLEGE GUILDFORD’S EUROPEAN PREMIER
On Tuesday 12th – 14th February 2008, Kings College Guildford put on a spectacular Rock & Roll show; the new school musical, Cruisin’.
The show has been a fantastic success, enjoyed by parents, teachers and approximately 160 local primary school pupils from Guildford Grove, Wyke and Burpham Schools
Cruisin’ is based around a crazed Italian man who just can’t get to grips with the idea of “Rock & Roll’.” His obsession is so great that it is only when his family is on the brink of splitting up that he finally accepts the truth about his son, that he is in the Rock & Roll band Cruisin’ and is about to enter the 1959 Battle of the Bands.
Autumn Ellis, a Year 8 pupil, who takes the one of the lead roles, Lucy Lewis, said; “The dances are really cool and the songs are great. We feel honoured to be the first people in England to perform this wonderful musical.”
Sarah Mackintosh, Co-Principal commented; “This is a fantastic achievement for our students. Once again, their professionalism and dedication has shone through. I am very proud of everyone involved; the actors, stage design, production team and musicians. It is great to see the other schools sharing in our success, as we continue to build our relationship with them.”
Luke Cole, who plays Vincenzo Russo, said; “The musical is a fantastic mix of rebellious teenagers, traditional families, lovers and marvellous music and dance.”
Joe Cottrell who plays Phil, the bands guitarist and budding Romeo added; “It was a great experience and something I would like to get more involved with in the future.”

Cruisin’ is the hip new school musical that brings all of the golden oldies together, tapping the feet to the rhythmic beat of rock and roll. It’s all about a crazed Italian man that just can’t get his grips on the fact of the whole idea of this “Rockin’ and a Rollin’.” However, he has to face the dreadful truth near to the end when he is left all alone with his family on the brink of an all out war, when his eldest son appears in the 1959 Battle of the Bands. There are three bands fighting it out for position as the top band at Johnny Angels night club, with the names of Cruisin’, The Hurricanes and The Suzettes.
When asking the cast what they felt about the production, we got answers like; “The dances are really cool and the songs are great.” And “We are honoured to be the first people in England to perform this wonderful musical.”
One member said that; “It’s a fantastic mix of rebellious teenagers, traditional families, lovers and marvellous music. Truly fantastic.”
With the play within a few weeks, you’d better get prepared to be amazed as Kings College performs this spectacular musical. Come and see for yourself and you’ll be grooving’ and rockin’ all night long!

Congratulations on being the first school to produce Cruisin in the UK.I have just read the comments and everybody obviously enjoyed the show. As the co-writer of the show I am very honoured to read such nice words about the songs and the show. Peter Waterman and I had a lot of fun writing Cruisin and it's great to hear that you all enjoyed the story and the music.
