Kitchen "MacGyver" Get Organized

Organize That Junk Drawer
Did you ever pull open one of your kitchen drawers only to find all your utensils scattered here and there? At my place we call it the junk drawer- the catch all place for things that don't have a home. Here is a little tid bit for you that may give you a solution.
You can make some inexpensive drawer dividers out of left over aluminum foil or plastic wrap boxes. Just tear off the top, then cover the metal teeth with some duct tape or some other heavey duty tape. For a more decorative appearance, paper the outsides of each box with craft paper or paint with either latex or craft paint. These boxes make great organizers for carving knives, barbecue skewers and silverware.
You Don't Need To Buy Expensive Jugs
Some people will buy expensive pottery jugs to hold their wooden spoons, spatulas and such. Just hold on! You can save a little dough! Try using a glass pitcher instead! Even an oatmeal box that you gift wrapped or painted will do. Make sure that you weigh it down inside with some marbles to keep it from tipping over.
Who Has Space For A Wine Rack?
You do! That is if you have saved those cylinder oatmeal boxes! First, paint them to match your kitchen cabinets and super glue them together side by side, arranging them to fill that space under the sink, beside the microwave oven, or refrigerator. Each box will hold one bottle. Prop the front of the rack with the lids from the oatmeal boxes to make the wine more accessible. This is a good way for you to design a rack rather then finding the space for a larger one you may have seen in the stores.
If You Freeze A Lot Of Food For Later
If you freeze a lot of food to be used later, old eight ounce yogurt containers can truly be a godsend. With these little plastic containers, you can freeze one cup portions and not have to worry about measuring them later. Freeze juices and other liquids in exact eight ounce packages too. Nothing can be more convenient!
Help! Under My Sink Is A Disaster Area!
To avoid that "sinking" feeling of disaster area under your sink, you need to get a handle on the problem! You know what I'm talking about. That mess of all sorts of odds and ends that are thrown there and never gets sorted out.
Put all ypur plastic milk jugs to work for you. All you need to do is just cut off the top of each jug, clean it out, and sort all that kitchen paraphernalia in any system that works for you. The jugs are big enough to anything from rubber gloves to dish detergent to scouring pads. Virtually anything else that you may keep under your sink!

Yes I think we should try to recycle anytime we can. I like my house to have some of my personality in it, not what some fad is doing.
The problem with fads is that once it is over, you are stuck with all that "stuff", because no one else will want it anymore either...lol
I love trying to find unusual ways to use the vintage canisters and other items I collect...like you said, to show personality!
bets, the wine holser is a perfect idea, never thought of that. You can vary or adapt it so much to fit your theme r house. TX
Yes, exactly! And if you decide to get rid of it altogether, it's no big deal! Thanks for checking out my hub!

Great hints--I'd never thought of using the aluminum foil boxes like that, but it's a great idea if you have small drawers that won't hold regular divided utensil holders!
I use an old wooden flour canister to hold spatulas and such on my counter--I collect these, so it made perfect sense to put them to use!
I agree with you plastic containers for freezing, too--why go out and buy special ones--just recycle what you already have!
