Kite Wind Turbine

With all the fuss about alternative energy, and wind power in particular, the near future hasn't been too promising until an inventive mind came up with the kite wind turbine.  Brain Roberts invented wind power innovation design, as an engineering professor in Sydney, Australia, using helicopter's rotor blades shape.

Ok, whats the big deal about a kite wind turbine, you might think?  This turbine is designed to rise into the upper atmosphere, living off of jet streams.  Self-powered, this turbine not only generates energy off of wind, but will reach the maximum output wind streams available to it!

How much energy can the kite wind turbine produce?  You may find it hard to believe but several of these could potentially fuel the entire planet!  And these device wouldn't even have to take up any of our precious space here on Earth, while not even threatening to be an eyesore.  What a brilliant piece of work!

The kite wind turbine is still in the designing process, while the makers work out some kinks in the plans.  Kite wind turbines are kept in the atmosphere by cords, which alone could cause several problems.  If a cord were to break the kite wind turbine could cause some damage to its surroundings.  Also, being deployed in jet streams, this turbine could travel quite a distance before crash landing on the surface-a possible threat to other countries then.

Scientists are still very hopeful that the kite wind turbine will be produced in the not-to-distant future.  Its amazing to imagine a few of these kite wind turbines powering the Earth, out of our view.

There is a lot of research going into using kites as a renewable source of energy.  There are boats which utilise traction kites to help them travel the world's oceans.  The option of using a series of traction kites to drive a generator has also been looked at.
