Knit 2 Together

My boyfriend took me to see” Julie and Julia the other day. I enjoyed it very much especially since I have begun writing recently and after talking about it a little while; my boyfriend suggested I write a blog about knitting through a book. I haven’t knitted in a long time because I have been so busy doing other things and thought that it would be fun.

I am not going to go to the extent that the girl on the movie did in writing every day about my knitting experience, as I know most people would not appreciate it, but I would like to invite people to join me in this experience – especially if you are knitter and want to knit with me.

The book I selected to knit through is “Knit 2 Together” by Tracy Ullman and Mel Clark and I plan on knitting everything in it in two years, two months and two days, starting today on 09/09/09 and ending 11/11/11. I am giving myself over two years as I am working a lot and am a slow knitter and there are several large projects in the book that are a little advanced for me for which I will have to spend time practicing (like a whole suit).

I selected “Knit 2 Together” because I love all the designs and there are several different, interesting projects and patterns that will both stretch my skill and keep me enjoying myself.  The real seller for me was the quote on the inside cover by (drum-roll please) Meryl Streep, who of course played Julia Child and helped in the inspiration of writing my own hubs about knitting.

If you would like to knit through this book (or another book) and write about it as well, let me know, as I would love to add links to my hub directing to your hubs. I am welcome for any knitting company I get, either in person or online.

After I am completed with each project, I will post a picture of it online and share a few of my experiences while knitting it. As I said before, I will not write every day about it, as that could get dull – but this will push me to get knitting again and share my passion with others.

My first project? The Doctor’s Bag on page 82 – after all I need a place to carry my knitting!

Sounds like a fun challenge. I have to admit, I don't knit much. I did as a child though. There, your random fact of the day. I look forward to the updates!!

Catherine, I am so excited you will knit with me! And Phil... that will be the trivia question I ask to everyone I see today.

Can't wait to see the finished Doctor's Bag. :) I knitted when I was a kid also, now I can't remember how and I'm wondering how you forget HOW to knit? lol

lol this is so sweet. I love the idea. :)

I don't knit much, I may have never even knitted before. And I never will, I think.

Maybe if I were a girl... then I would knit. I'd love it so much... lol why am I not a girl???

I just couldn't wait for a new hub, so I had to read this one. Is this one for girls? Am I not welcome here? I don't know.

I just can't help, but read your hubs. :D

Hi,

I am in the middle of the sailor pants and think there is a mistake in the pattern. The decreases in the sections before the rise don't add up to me. What do you think?

I can't find any corrections on the web. I appreciate your opinion.

Hey Lori, I haven't started that pattern yet, but I will look it over and see if I can find any mistakes and post them.

Hey again, I am looking at the pattern, and without doing the pattern, I can't really say, but by reading and looking at the picture on page 94 it looks like they decrease and then do the shape rise? That may compensate for anything they are taking away... I am sorry, I wish I was more helpful. Which part specifically are you asking about?

I'm knitting the Henley sweater right now from Knit 2 together. I also am knitting beyond my capabilities but with the right help, it's acheivable! I really love this knitting book...I just hope I can finish the sweater before a pattern for fingerless gloves distracts me!! :-)
