Knock Out Roses For Three Seasons

Breaking news, knock-out roses can last all summer long says Iana Turner of the Morris Arboretum. Iana said, extreme weather will not effect our knock-out roses this year. The variety of rose is called double knock-out and they are predicted to withstand the heat and keep their pedals until the first frost.

The double knock out rose varietal name is Radtko. It was introduced by the Conrad-Pyle Co and is breed by William Radler of Milwaukee Wisconsin. The knock out is a landscape shrub rose and thrives in zone 4-10. Its bud forms a pointed ovoid and comes in cherry red or deep cerise. You can also get the knock out in pink but not as a double bloom form. Pink is only breed in single to semi double bloom forms thus far. The bloom size average to medium with a diameter of 3-3 ½ inches and height up to 3 - 4 inches. The foliage is a deep green with some blue or maroon highlights throughout. In the fall the foliage turns a deep purple with a maroon undertone.

The new breeds of double knock out are resistant to rose black spots and tolerant mildew. You can expect one to five flowers per cluster because of the vigorous vegetation of this plant. Due to the carefree nature of the double knock out rose you can enjoy its beauty for three seasons.
