Catch the Thieves! Don't Lose Your "A!"

Vitamin A Thieves:

Mineral oil, air pollution,

antacids, barbiturates,

cholesterol lowering drugs.

We all want to be healthier and live well.

I'm going to write a short series

on some necessary vitamins for good health.

Nothing fancy or cute, just good information

you can print for quick referance.

We need Vitamin A to encourage the growth repair of our body tissue, to keep our eyes healthy and to helps us see in the dark. We also need a strong immune system and Vitamin A is one of the necessary vitamins that keeps us in tune with our immune system.

Sources of Vitamin A are:

  • Liver

  • Fish Oils (you'll read that a lot here.)

  • Whole and fortified milk and eggs

  • Carrots

  • Sweet potatoes

  • Spinach

  • Other leafy greens

  • Yellow squash

  • Peaches

  • Apricots

Beta and other carotenes are also in these foods.

Alert: Vitamin A can be toxic in large doses and if you're pregnant, can cause birth defects. The above foods should always be approved by your physician if you have special concerns and needs.

If you are eating a diet that contains these foods, you may not need a supplement, but consider it to make sure you are getting the RDA of 800 RE for women and 1000 RE for men.

Caution: Unlike many other vitamins, the body stores

excess Vitamin A, so don't exceed the RDA.

Eating healthy is a habit, gather your greens, grab the carrots, and bake the sweet potatoes for great taste and good sources of Vitamin A.

Lots of good information and links here. Thanks Marisue, I really need to learn more about what vitamins I should be taking, when to take them and more about the fish oils. Printing out to read when time permits. Thanks again.

I asked my brother at level1diet.com what would be the most important and I believe he is or has made a list...but the most immediately important thing to do is to eliminate the fatty oils such as vegetable oil (canola is good in small amounts) and put in the omega 3's, like the fish oil....and you need, sorry to say, at least 9 of those whoppers a day...in 2 and 3's increments...take before eating, let the food sit on top and you won't get the fish burp....or get the coated ones...still, need to eat a bit with them, I'm not the expert tho' he is!!
