Travelling to India on a business trip? Just be sure not to make the mistake of thinking every Indian will speak, walk and talk similarly. People in India are divided in four different directions, East, West, North and South.

It’s always better to know a little background about people from all four regions.

Their individuality is also defined by the region that they work in. We have analyzed the characteristics of employees from diverse zones, based on their strengths and weaknesses.  For all the Indians reading this Hub we have also included a tip to the respective region.

NORTH
North Indians by nature are loud. They may not be necessarily rude but they live life king-size. They are perhaps the most spendthrift people of all the four regions. They are extroverts and also very ambitious. You can expect a North Indian to be motivated by perks and will even relocate if the opening seems profitable.

  • Strengths: Very ambitious and professionally aggressive.
  • Weaknesses: Sometimes their promises fall short of delivery.
  • Tip: If the aggression is directed in the right path, you can make great achievers.

SOUTH
South Indians are shy people but extremely hard working and intelligent. They will stick their guns and make things work. They are long term players and basically work on a long term vision. They are not the first to volunteer for change and hence you will find old timers in professional positions.

  • Strengths: Loyal and hard working. You can count on them to get the work done.
  • Weaknesses: Shy and very eager to please others. Highly emotional by nature.
  • Tip: Capitalize on your strengths. You deserve more credit than you give yourself.

WEST
As long as the sun shines, the employees in the west will be at their professional best. They are growth oriented and calculate their professional moves by the ‘lifestyle perks’ and ‘growth prospects’.

  • Strengths: Very strong sense of professionalism and high level of work focus.
  • Weaknesses: No work life balance. Too much demands professionally and unhealthy lifestyle.
  • Tip: Equate professional rewards with personal satisfaction for a more meaningful life.

EAST
Employees from the east when compared to those from other regions are more grounded. They’re extremely creative and patient besides being hard working. They are usually loved by all.

  • Strengths: Secure in their thinking and grounded in their approach
  • Weaknesses: Like to work in their own style. Not very good at adapting.
  • Tip: Be flexible and open to change. Explore unchartered territory.
