Our mind is full of a lot of information especially in this age of information technology. From knowledge that we use in our daily lives to wisdom we think that is important to find true happiness and peace of mind.

In Prov. 4:7 New King James Version we find, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding”.

The Book of Proverbs further states in Prov. 2:2, 5-6, Ibid, “So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding…Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding”

God wants man’s search for knowledge to lead into the understanding and fear of Him.

No man should ever boast of one’s knowledge and exalt himself against God. No matter how rich his wisdom may be, it is foolishness compared to the wisdom of God, and if he will use it to go against the will of God, such wisdom will come to naught. I Corinthians 1:19-20 states: “For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will thwart.” Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” (RSV).

Of course, nobody wants to go against God. No one will say that he uses his knowledge and intelligence to make God angry. Well, we may not want to intentionally exalt ourselves against God, but examine these situations wherein we may find ourselves into.

One of the examples of man’s claims to be wise that will lead him to perdition is mentioned by the apostle Paul in Romans 1:22-23 (NKJV)and 25: “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things…who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”

We are well aware that there are people who profess to be highly educated and experts in their chosen fields of endeavor, yet bow down to, serve and worship not the Creator God, but the images made by man. Those who do this according to the Bible, profess to be wise but turn out to be fools.

Consider this verse on Matt. 7:13-14 :

13″Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Conveniently, there are those who do not even see the need for really choosing between the narrow gate and the road that is broad, complacent as they are in their belief that they already believe in Christ. Others maintainthat so long as one has faith in Christ, then he is a believer and a disciple of the Lord.

Christ knows who belongs to Him and those who do not. We can read at John 10:25, 26-28 Revised English Bible:

“I have told you’,said Jesus,…’because you are not sheep of my flock you do not believe. My own sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they will never perish; no one will snatch them from my care’.”

The true belivers are in Christ’s flock, otherwise they are not. They can also be easily identified as they listen to His voice and follow Him. They heeded Christ’s command to come into His fold and be saved (John 10:9,Ibid.) The fold mentioned by Christ is the Church of Christ (Acts 20:28, Lamsa Translation). Those whom Christ recognizes as His true disciples are in His Church. They are members of the true Church of Christ.

Let us not conform to the standards of this world, but let us allow God to transform us inwardly by a complete change of our mind (Rom. 12:2). It is extremely important that we be careful of how we think.

Thus let us follow the advice of the apostle Paul written in Philippians 4:8: “In conclusion, my brothers, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable” (TEV).
