FOOTPRINTS

One night a man had a dream that he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky, flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonged to him, the other belonged to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it.

"LORD, you said that once i decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when i needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied, "My Son, my precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I CARRIED YOU!"

SOMETHING ABOUT LIFE AND DEATH

  1. Life begins not at 20 or 40 or 60. It begins the moment you find meaning in it.

  2. You can be 50 - and not yet living. You can be 20 - and very much alive.

  3. Be life long or short, its completeness. Depends on what it is lived for!

  4. Life can be a big joke. Not to those who joke about it. But to those who never do.

  5. It is when one is threatened by death. That one begins to appreciate. The significance of life.

  6. Those who cry for life. Without laughing with life. Are not crying for life. They are mourning.

  7. Many die before they can even begin to live. They lead meaningless lives.
  8. Others continue to live even after they die; Because they continue to give meaning to the lives of others.
  9. Some people are noticed. After they are gone.
  10. Some people cannot live to the full. Without emptying the lives of others.
  11. One can dream of a fuller life. Only if one lives fully.
  12. Death is more universal than life; Everyone dies but not everyone lives.

SOMETHING ABOUT THE RICH CHILDREN

THE CHILDREN OF THE RICH are spending millions to look poor. In Europe, the United States, and here in our country, faded denims, unbleached muslin (katsa) and cheap sanforized cloth are still the favorite rags of the young affluents.

LOOKING POOR is the new fashion of the rich! Denims have to look as if they have been through centuries of hard times; the katsa, or unbleached muslin, has to be wringkled and worn-out for dramatic effect. Patchwork, which are actual left overs of tablecloth and curtains of yesterdays are strictly required. Big sister's hand-me-down clothes are recycled to a shirt or blouse.

TO BE REALLY "IN" the poor imagehas to be sustained. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to look poor.

IT IS ONLY "FASHIONABLE TO LOOK POOR" if you really rich!

DENGUE H-FEVER CAN KILL

From January 1992 to January 1999, around 24,000 persons, majority of whom are children below 10 years old, have been infected with Dengue H-Fever. This disease is brought about and spread by day-biting mosquitoes scientifically named Aedes egypti and Aedes albopictus. (Source: DOH FETP)

Beware of blood-thirsty mosquitoes.

It is the female Aedes mosquitoes that incessantly search and hover around for human blood. The female of the species needs a blood meal so she can lay her eggs, thus assuring the existence of their kind. It is the one that bites and transmits the Dengue H-Fever.

However, precautionary measures can, and must, be taken to reduce the incidence of this potentially deadly disease.

Control the disease.

The Department of Health has advised everyone to take the following steps to prevent these mosquitoes from reaching and infecting us with Dengue H-Fever.

  1. Use mosquito nets or electric mosquito repellers even while taking a nap.
  2. Provide all fever-stricken persons with nets or other forms of protective screening.
  3. Screen your windows and doors if possible.
  4. Bury rubbish in the backyard, especially the ones that collect rainwater like tin cans, bottles, old tires, etc.
  5. Avoid hanging clothes in dark corners as these serve as hiding places for mosquitoes.
  6. If certain containers need to be always filled with water, like plant bowls and aquariums, change water at least once a week. It only takes 11-12 days for mosquito eggs to become adults.
  7. When there is a need to store water, make sure the jar or pail is covered tightly so adult mosquitoes cannot fly in to lay their eggs.
  8. Roof gutters should be constantly cleared of leaves and other debris that may obstruct water flow, thereby creating breeding ground for these pests.
  9. Use insecticides, electric mosquito repellers, insect sprays or coils for surer protection from mosquitoes.
  10. Consult a doctor immediately in cases of sudden onset of moderate to high fever, especially among children.

Of course, mosquitoes will always be here to stay. However, we can prevent these blood-sucking , Dengue H-fever-carrying insects from making us their next victims. These we owe to ourselves and to our children.

TIPS FOR A WINNING INTERVIEW

How can you put yourself ahead of the other applicants for a single job?

Here are FIVE GUIDELINES you can follow to give yourself the extra edge:

1. Observe the rules of interview etiquette.

  • Come early, dress well. Be modest in appearance. Don't wear a very heavy make-up.

2. Show your communication skills.

  • This is most important aspect in which an applicant ca set herself apart.

3. Demonstrate your knowledge of the company and the industry.

  • Numerous applicants fail to research about their fields.
  • A bank applicant should not only show a familiarity with the company and it's bank's training program but also issues that affects the entire industry.

4. Be able to discuss your career goals or your ambition.

  • These are two important things that usually come across in every interview.
  • Show that you're willing to take steps toward attaining them and express your desire to get ahead.
  • Back this up with a strong record of you past jobs to make it credible.

5. Be yourself.

  • Candidness and honesty are very important.
  • See to it that the information you have furnished are all based on your knowledge, and be sure they are accurate.
  • Be frank about what you've found difficult in the past and what you've done to overcome these difficulties.

Remember, a good self image in every interview can be the clinching factor. Everything you said will be credited in your own self presentation.

DON'T FORGET: "People who are honest and have positive feeling about their self-presentation are people who are bound to succeed."

THE WORKER'S PRAYER

Dear Lord,

Give me a supervisor who understands

One who looks at me as an honest man

One who knows I've got feelings and pride

And joys and troubles that go side by side

For a man like that, I'll earn my pay.

The clock's no problem, the wage no sin

Show me the work - let me begin.

But Lord give me a supervisor who understands.

A good sound thinker, a maker of plans

Not a genius, not nay so but a man

who can smile and say hello.

For him I'll work - sweat and strain;

I'll conquer the task regardless the pain,

If he shows he cares - if he trusts me too

But Lord, I'm just a worker - a common man;

Please Lord, give me a supervisor who understands. Amen.

BE A POSITIVE THINKER

(Be an optimist)

Are you problematic? Insecure? Do you feel neglected? Are you a pessimistic person?

A word from someone had helped me shaped my attitude toward life. I hope this will help you, too.

If your attitude is right, then your life is made right. If your heart is touched, your mind and thinking will change and your life will change for the better accordingly. Look at the bright side of life. Count your blessings not your misfortunes. If you are burdened with the load and it seems so heavy, give it to the one who really knows the inner chamber of your heart. God is concerned only with an honest heart. Think positive - you'll find things will get better. Smile more often. Forget about the few things we lack and cannot have. Stop feeling sorry for our limitations. Be happy...

A merry heart does good like a medicine and is the refuge of the soul. A broken spirit dries the bones. Be the kind that does what is right.

Really informative article. I like the one about the rich spending money to look poor. When I was a kid we didn't have a lot so I often went to school is worn jeans. Then I saw the ad on TV for designer jeans that look like they had been used and abused. Its funny I used to get picked on at school for dressing like that. Now its cooler to look poorer. What a waste.
