Kontera Ad-Links: A Distraction To Readers
71A Distraction To Readers
Have you ever heard of Kontera? You may not be familiar with the name, but, you are familiar with their antics, and obtrusive ads.]
Kontera destroys the readability of my articles and comments and irritates my readers who think the links lead to more information about the subject, while in fact, they are advertisements, most not even close to relating to the topic of the article / comment.
In addition, I don’t like to see my good content littered with links that have not been created by me, especially when they don’t contribute to my income. It’s not worth sacrificing my readers' experiences. Many pay-sharing sites give the writer an option to use or not use. Kontera's click-throughs are annoying, distracting, and tasteless, and in my opinion an outright form of harassment while attempting to read someone's article.
They also cause problems when trying to post comments and articles. If you are still scratching your head wondering what the hell is Kontera, let me describe its menacing at-work method to distract.
Xomba, as an example, and other sites have the Kontera Internet ad-links (I like to use the term cockroach for these ad-links) upon them. What are they? They are easy to see. Open any article, read any comment, and you will see words that are double-underlined. I use to think they were related to Adsense Keywords. But, as they have continued to multiply, just as cockroaches do, you have probably noticed the giant boxes which pop from them when your mouse pointer accidentally touches one of them.
You do not need to click one. They are automatic and pop up in your face and block the view of what you are reading or reviewing. They will break your train of thought.
On some sites, such as Xomba, writers make no money from them whatsoever. But, these Kontera ad-links are generating money. So, if its not going in our pockets, the next question should be, where is it going?
I've done some research on the Kontera ad-links. Many sites, where you can make money too, explain what Kontera is. Kontera pays on clicks too. On sites which give the option to turn Kontera on or off there is the mention of not turning it on, unless you have a huge number of click-throughs because the money generated each month does not roll over, and if you do not meet their minimum of $100 per month, you make no money.
And, if you're not making any money off their annoying double-underlined words, there is no reason to have them upon your comment, or article. They are automatic and an outright nuisance. I resent my articles and comments from being used as Kontera generators without my permission.

I totally agree with you. I have heard about their payment policies and will not use them. I see their adds all over eHow when trying to read an article and the add pops up blocking the content. I now just close the page and move on.

Here, Here!
I have stopped visiting sites for just that reason. Kontera obstruction. Even some hubpages and other blogs that I use to read, I don't any longer. Kontera has ruined my enjoyment of reading.
Nice to see you here!
