Kung Fu Panda: Wow. Great Family Fun.

Kung Fu Panda is a wonderful movie. As a father of two preschoolers, I don't get out to the movies much and when I do, it has to be a family film. We've seen Curious George, Cars, and Over The Hedge. Without a doubt, Kung Fu Panda is the best of the bunch. Second place goes to Cars.

Panda is a beautiful movie to look at. This is an update to the already impressive animated technology. I haven't been this delightfully surprised since the first time that I saw Shrek and by the way, I liked Panda better.

The perspective, the details, and the colors are incredible. It pulls you in and then it doesn't let you go.

When I heard that Jack Black was the voice of the main character, I worried that this was going to be another movie like Aladdin, a film which lives or dies depending on your reaction to the Genie character voiced by Robin Williams. I am happy to report that Jack is very restrained in this role and lets the story, animation, and characters take center stage. He's the Panda not Jack Black.

The story keeps to a very family friendly tone. There is a pleasant relationship between Panda and his adopted father who wants him to stay in the Noodle trade. Panda's ambition is to be a Kung Fu master.

Although the plot of Kung Fu Panda is familiar, the characters and animation give the story line new depth and keep it interesting. It may be the Karate Kid meets High Noon meets Kung Fu: The Series but it really works.

The Tai Lung character may be a bit scary for the younger kids. My 5 year old had to cover his eyes and wanted to know when the scary parts were over.

The build up to the fight scene at the end is well done.

Over all, a great family movie, with astounding animation, pleasant characters, and plenty of family-friendly Kung Fu action. Enjoy.

I took my kids to see this. For the most part, they liked it. I thought they would come out and try and pull some kung fu on each other. But, they didn't.
