Kwips and Jaikus and Identi.ca, OH MY! The Twitter Space Has A Lot of Company
53Last count - 6 Microbloggers in the space
Okay, you know Twitter, the first lifestreamer/microblogger. And we've mentioned Friendfeed and Plurk in other hubs.
Now we introduce 3 more players, one that just launched a few weeks ago.
www.Jaiku.com is a service that was purchased by Google, so you can expect some innovation and big things in store from them. They've got the most traffic of the three at this time, with about 100k visits in June -- placing them in the top fifty for all social bookmarking sites in the BuzzMarker.com rankings.
www.Kwippy.com ("Kwip this") is another player with unlimited space for your messages, vs. the 140 for Twitter. They just added a comments section and a way to notify you when someone "favorites" you. They also have RSS/Atom feeds. They made their kwips page open to the public on June 27, per their blog post "Curtains are raised!"
www.identi.ca This really seems like a Twitter clone, even down to the 140 character limit. Maybe they figure there's enough business for everyone, might as well grab some share. In comparison, Kwippy is trying to build a better mousetrap (and supposedly provide more stability than the recently unreliable Twitter) by building on an open source platform.
Is there room for all these players? We'll learn a lot by watching the traffic changes in the coming months.
