Almost everyone today owns a laptop computer.  Laptops are much like an accessory and like all accessories; they need to be sported in style.  Laptop covers help individuals express their own style and taste.  However, a laptop cover is not just for design purposes alone.  In fact, their traditional purpose, that they still serve today, is one of protection.  Laptops, due to their portability, are oftentimes treated more roughly than that of a desktop computer.  They are more prone to scratches, dirt, and overall wear then their desktop counterparts.  Enter the laptop cover.

Traditionally, lap top covers were thin bits of plastic that adhere, via static electricity, to your laptop.  There are laptop screen covers, laptop keyboard covers and, of course, the laptop cover skin.  Each cover provides a unique purpose.  The screen covers are used to protect the screen from scratches and fingerprints.  A laptop screen is the most sensitive area of the laptop and is prone to the most expensive damage, sometimes irreversible.  It is important not to push on or even touch your screen directly.  A screen cover will help prevent a lot of this damage, and also keep dust off your screen and allow for easier cleaning.  With a cover on your screen, you will be able to wipe the dust and fingerprints off without having to worry about what damage your cleaning solution might cause your screen.  These covers are of course clear so your sight will not be hindered.

A laptop keyboard cover works much like the screen cover.  It works to protect your keyboard from dirt and grim that inevitably encounters anything that revolves around using your hands.  If you look at a keyboard that is not protected by a cover, you will notice dust, food, and other particles in-between the keys.  These particles can eventually damage the inner workings of a keyboard, rendering it useless.  To prevent this happening with your laptop, you could use a keyboard cover.  This cover will be on entire sheet of plastic or vinyl that will adhere to your keyboard.  Unlike your keyboard, this cover will be one piece that will help prevent dirt from finding its way between the keys and allowing for easier clean up.  In addition, these covers protect against liquid spillage, which would be disastrous for your laptop.

A laptop cover skin would of course protect your outer shell from scratches and general wear and tear.  Today, these cover skins have become a fashion statement and you can purchase them in many designs and colors.  Your imagination is your limit when it comes to what type of laptop covers you can buy.  Choose from the standard pink laptop cover to an intricate modern design.  Maybe dragons are you thing or Disney characters, it does not really matter because you can have them all.  A laptop cover can also serve as an identification badge, making it easier for you to find your laptop in a crowded room.

The prices of covers for laptops vary greatly depending on design, where you purchase it, and the type of cover you are looking for.  A screen cover and keyboard cover are typically cheaper than designer skins, starting at $14.95.  Laptop skins normally start around $25, but can rise to $50 easily for a custom designed cover.  The best place to purchase a laptop cover would be at online retailers.  There are many websites dedicated to providing laptop covers and protection.  A quick search on Google will return many sources from which to choose.

You should consider purchasing laptop covers for your laptop today.  They provide protection as well as make a fashion statement.  It is important that when you are making your selection, to purchase the correct cover that will fit your particular laptop.  Typically, a retailer will have them separated by brand and model, so you are able to choose the correct fit for your laptop.  Screen covers will come in standard sizes according to your screen size, but cover skins and keyboard covers will have to be specific to your particular laptop brand and model.  If you are on a tight budget, you should opt for the screen and keyboard protection covers first, before worrying about a cover skin.  Of course, if having a designer skin is important to you and you have the funds, then your options are endless.  Have fun and enjoy your new laptop cover!
