LASIK Dallas Style
57What to look for in a LASIK provider
My nephew happens to live in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas, and he is considering getting LASIK eye surgery from one of the providers in the Dallas laser eye surgery market. He called me up and wanted to know what are some of the things to look for when getting lasik, such as which doctor to choose, what the prices should be, and whether he was a possible candidate for lasik. A lasik surgeon in Dallas should provide several services besides the actual eye surgery itself, and he wanted to be comfortable with the laser eye clinic he chose. I suggested several things to look for when choosing his lasik surgeon, since it is his eyes and vision we are talking about. It is important to consider several things when the possibility of never seeing again is at stake.
How much does lasik surgery cost?
The first thing anyone getting lasik wants to know is "how much does lasik surgery cost?". This is almost always the very first consideration when deciding to do lasik eye surgery, whether in Dallas or anywhere else. But, cost should definitely not be the deciding factor when you are considering someone cutting open your eye and burning it with a laser. Unfortuantely, most people start with the cost however and go from there. Lasik surgery costs about $1,000 to $2,000 dollars per eye, depending on the person’s eye. This is what lasik surgery prices are running in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex area. When I had my eyes done several years ago, the cost was right at $3,500 for both eyes together, but split out the cost was a little cheaper for one eye, and a little more for the other eye. It is true that many providers of lasik run about the same price, and the price doesn’t really go down, but the technology has definitely gotten better.
LASIK technology is improving
If you talk to someone who got LASIK several years ago, like me, they will tell you that it is great except for one problem. The problem is called "star burst" or "star burst pattern". It mostly occurs at night, and it is the effect that pinpoints of light appear as "stars" or fuzzy around the edges. This is an artifact of the process used in lasik eye surgery procedures. Essentially, at night when your eyes are dilated more to collect more light, they dilate past the part of your eye that was "fixed". This is what causes the star pattern. However, from talking to several people that have had lasik on the newest machines, this effect is now much reduced, and some people do not even notice it. Even with the effect though, LASIK is definitely still worth it, since it can significantly change your life for the better. But, the lasik surgeon you choose should explain any and all side effects and potential risks associated with LASIK eye surgery before you do the procedure.
Choose a LASIK surgeon you like
So if the price is comparable between most of the lasik surgeons Dallas has to offer, and they are all mostly using the newest lasik technology, what could be the deciding factor in choosing a laser eye center? The choice could come down to which doctor you like best. Like in any other profession, such as mechanics or plumbers, or salesmen, you will feel comfortable and secure with some doctors, and not so much with others. Don’t be afraid to ask the lasik doctor any and all questions you have concerning the procedure. It is important that you are totally comfortable with the doctor who is going to cut open your eyeball and shine a high powered laser into it. Don’t be afraid to visit several of the laser eye clinics Dallas has within it, and be upfront with the staff and doctor and tell them you are shopping around to find the best fit for your doctor. This is really probably the most important part of choosing a lasik provider. Some lasik doctors are impersonal or you hardly see them, while others are available to answer all your questions directly and quickly.
So, armed with all this information, and with a few things to ask his doctor in mind, my nephew is ready to get his eyes fixed for good, so he doesn’t have to worry about glasses or contacts any more. Of course, I am not a doctor, nor can I play one on TV, so research and ask around yourself to make sure all the information you are receiving is accurate and truthful (especially when reading on the internet). But hopefully you find these tips helpful in your search for a lasik surgeon in the Dallas area, and after you get the surgery, you can say you got "lasik dallas style".
