LCD Tv Repair - Diagnosing and Repairing LCD TVs

Repairing an LCD TV doesn't have to be an extremely difficult thing to do. In quite a few different cases, the problem can be rectified by buying relatively inexpensive parts (especially when the cost of those parts is compared to the price of a new LCD TV) or buying another TV with a different problem to “scavenge” for parts. However, do note that because these are electrical devices, you should not be performing any repairs if you are not confident in your ability to do so. Read up on what to do when working inside of electronics, and proper procedures for staying safe during the process.

First of all, let's go over some of the things that can happen to an LCD TV, and what you may need to do in order to get the problem resolved. As you will be able to see, in almost any case the problem is going to be one part of the TV, and all of the other components are unharmed.

If the TV won't power on, it's possible the power cord, jack, et cetera can be switched for one that isn't damaged.

If the TV still won't turn on, there's a good chance that a fuse has blown, and can be replaced. The fuse you should be looking for is probably either the glass type, with a small thin wire inside, or a blade type. As inexpensive as fuses are, it might not hurt at all to replace the fuse even if it looks good under visual inspection, as sometimes fuses are blown, without appearing to be blown.

If the screen is dark, but you can still see the picture when looking very (as in, from an inch or two away, in very good light) closely, you may need to replace the backlight, or the inverter board.

With any problem, the issue may be an intermittent connection or bad cabling inside the unit. Look for connectors that snap into various circuit boards; unplug any connections, and then carefully plug them back in again. This can be done with flat ribbon-style cables too, they are fragile however, so be very careful.

In short, common sense and process of elimination can save you lots of money. Just be careful, and above all else, safe in your attempts to repair your LCD TV.
