LG Fully Integrated with Display Dishwasher in Stainless Steel

Twenty years ago, I would have never considered buying a large appliance, such as a built-in dishwasher, from a relatively new manufacturer. What about the track record? What about repairs? What if the company disappears? So, it took some changing on my part to give the green-light to purchasing the new LG fully intergrated with display dishwasher (model LDF7811) a few months ago.

I know I have mentioned this dishwasher in other hubs, but I wanted to give it its own space because it has proven to be such a great dishwasher, well designed, efficient, a very tall tub (12 inch plates can be put in bothe the upper and lower racks), and, very notably, QUIET!

This is the first dishwasher that I have found that lets the consumer pick the force of the spraying water that cleans the dishes. There are options for a sanitary rinse and an extra rinse. We sometimes have many loads each day. There is a lot of cooking, and ten for dinner is not uncommon.

User Evaluation of the LG Dishwasher

We scrape our dishes quickly before loading them into the dishwasher, but we do not rinse them. We've had this policy through the lives of other dishwashers. For our vintage 1994 Maytag, it meant that I would often have to take the spray arms out of the machine and use either tweezers or some other device to get bits of stuck food from the orifices on the spray arms. It seems small bits of plastic wrap along with fibrous vegetable parts would often get caught in the little holes. (I wondered what was the source of the small bits of plastic wrap for years. All that I can think of is that we often put plates of food in the microwave, and perhaps small pieces of the plastic wrap that we use to cover the food tears and then is removed from the plate by the washing action of the dishwasher.) Of course, the cleaning power of the machine is really hurt if too many of the jets are clogged, and no water is running through them. The jets on the LG are larger, so little pieces have not gotten caught. I have not had to clean the spray arms of debris once. The self cleaning filter works, too, so there is no need to clean a filter -- as is required on a Bosch dishwasher (and here, I note that friends who have Bosch dishwashers seldom clean the filters as often as needed).

Unlike most dishwashers that are covered with an exposed piece of sound insulation, the LGs have an outer shell which covers the insulation. This made for a tight fit, width-wise (and required some sanding) but I suppose that it is also responsible for the low noise. Check the dimensions of your opening.

Rack arrangement is dependent on the kinds of dishes and glassware the consumer puts into the machine. Our plates fit well, as do our glasses. The tines are movable in the bottom rack to leave a completely flat surface, but we have never used that feature.

The cycles are LONG -- even the quickwash is an hour and a half! This is a result of the water eficiency because the top and bottom racks are washed separately. I do wish there were an option for a faster cycle -- even at the cost of using more water. (By the way, this is something common to newer dishwashers).

Two Years Later: Bad News Update

After one year, the LG dishwasher failed. Water was remaining in the bottom of it. Readout codes appeared on the LED screen. I called the 800 number for repair. The first person took a long time to come and seemed not to knw anything. I called LG for another repairman. This one, The 'Best Appliance Guy, was well spoken, but after replqacing the pump, tjhe machine still did not work. After one month, LG replaced the machine. I thought I just had a the rare bad experience. After one year, the s econd macine stopped working (pump problems and the button for the extra rinse ande sanitary rinse did not work. The Best Appliance Guy returned, told me that the seals of the pump had disintegrated and that it was difficult to get another pump. That was after three visits. So, I replaced that dishwasher with a Whirlpool GU3600XYST. The fact that the LG failed twice is so sad. When it worked., it was impressive, but to fail twice, beyond an easy repair, at such a high price, is inexcusable.

As a former manager of an appliance store (an LG dealer) I strongly urge people not to buy anything from LG in North America. They do not have parts availability like the American brands, so if you have a breakdown, it can be many weeks before you get a repair completed. Fit & finish is shoddy on their refridgerators. We had several serious recurring issues with their Fridges & Laundry products, and I expect the same with the launch of their Ranges and Dishwashers. For out of box reliability, Whirlpool products generally do well. That said, any cheap (under $500 usd) dishwashers out there generally do not clean very well. Ask any appliance service technician and watch for the look of disgust on their face when you mention LG - buyer beware.

Thanks, Mick, for the comment.
As it turns out, our LG dishwasher needed a repair just before the one year warranty expired. The repairman said we need a new motor. I thought it would be here by today, but that didn't happen. I'll post another comment when it is fixed. Right now we sometimes take our dishes to our guesthouse that has a much cheaper Frigidaire, two year old dishwasher. It has done a good job.

Mick, you are absolutely right! Our dishwasher was finally fixed yesterday after 35 days of being unuseable! I called LG many times, and they insisted on fixing it rather than replacing the whole unit. The motor and pump were replaced twice (I don't know why the first replacement didn't work). both repairmen said, though, that there are few problems with the LG dishashers. My experience with LG customer service has been disappointing. I think they should have done something to make up for the 35 days without a dishwasher -- like extend the warranty, for example. I'm going to call them again.

My LG dishwasher needed a water pump replacement twice now. The problem is that the seal on the pump shaft leaks and allow water to reach the motor bearing this causes that bearing to fail. At this rate the dishwasher wil require repair every 8 months

Anton, My LG repairman told me that LG has redesigned the dishwasher pump because the earlier model caused trouble -- but not the trouble that you mention. He said that food debris was getting into the pump where there were small tolerances, and causing it not to work. My dishwasher has trouble with the button that lets you choose to have a "sanitary" rinse.

My LG Dishwasher is about 30 months old. It has failed twice the first repair took 30 days and the repairman finally spent 2 hours on the phone with LG.

Current repair was first diagnosed on April 25th. Since then two motors and misc parts have been replaced. We have called LG, GE who hold the maint contract and the local sevice provider. We are now waiting for the 3rd motor and LG/GE are giving us the run around. The unit is a lemon and LG/GE should replace this unit or give us the money we spent. In 10 days it will make 90 that this unit is out of service.

I will not buy another foreign made product. I have a Fisher/Pakel (Spell?) washer dryer that is equally disapointing.

We have an LG dishwasher model LDS5811WW that we purchased in Sept 05 without an extended warranty. Last year I noticed rust on the racks and LG replaced the racks within 1 week without ever seeing the damaged racks. Great service. A month ago our dishwasher failed to operate and the error code was LE (meaning motor failure). The problem was the insulation in the door had a chemical reaction with the wiring harness which caused the wires to dissolve. A month later and a few phone calls LG sent us a new dishwasher even though our washer was 2 years beyond warranty coverage. Great service. Andy

Wish I had read comments such as these a few years ago when we bought our LG. Worked fine for a while then main pump broke. After much waiting it waqs replaced only to break again. This time entire electrical panel had to be replaed as well. We had no choice but to buy a new machine. I am keeping all our records as when there is a class action suit against them we will be ready.

Our replacement dishwasher failed, too, and I replaced it with a Whirlpool. LG has proved to be the worst experience I have ever had with a large household appliance. It is such a shame, because when it worked, it worked well.

I also own this pathetic dishwasher. Had the repair people here twice last year because it wasnt drying the dishes. LG sent a new door which did not fix the problem, then the warranty expired. Yesterday, the appliance started flashing some code and there was water in the bottom of it. I'm assuming the pump has now gone bad. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LG APPLIANCE AS LONG AS I LIVE. Aside from having a terrible product, their customer service people are just as bad.

LG products are pure trash. From their cell phones to major appliances its one horror story after another. We have a full set of LG appliances and everyone of them has a major flaw. The pump on the dishwasher has failed. The lights on the fridge wont go out when you shut the door. The freezer fan ices up and all the food in the freezer comparrtment defrosts. The icemaker quit. A burner on the stove wont heat. The microwave makes an unbelievable racket. My cell phones screen blanked out. I know what I am going to do to return the favor for those clowns and their consumer products garbage they refuse to fix. Whenever you see one of their stainless steel garbage appliances "accidentally" knee a big dent in the front..

LG has the worst dishwasher and customer service I have ever witnessed.Bad oder, faulty motor, error codes and that was just the first day.I have had the unit serviced 3 times the first year and is still not working anywhere as good as my 200 dollar builder special that lasted 15 years. Customer service is in another country (good luck). If your in the market for a new dishwasher just remeber "to say no" to LG.

I have an LG Dishwasher, LG Washer/Dryers, LG DVD Players, and an LG LCD TV (small). After a year the dishwasher had to have the pump replaced under warranty but the service call was $45.00 Now I have the LE code coming up, the repairman just left and claims the motor needs replaced. My warranty expired in November, 2008 - two months shy. They want $358.00. We only paid $500 (our son got us a deal where he works). What a joke. My husband wants to fix it himself but after reading the comments...that would only last another 8 months if we can locate the parts. We're going to call and try to get replacement from LG - that would help us save money for a year to get a new dishwasher. The repairman just called and said he would take the old "LG" off our hands if we were going to get it replaced. That's because the thing looks brand new....and they know it. Our LG DVD Player skips at the end of movies - but our old Sony did this too. They heat up in the cabinet... We're sticking with the old classic brands now. Our Kenmore Refridgerator lasted 17 years and our old GE Dishwasher lasted 9 years. I don't believe in extended warranties, but we are definitely going to get one with the next dishwasher...Life is not good with LG...

We bought an LG dishwasher for our new home in May 2007. Just before Thanksgiving of 2007, the bottom rack of dishes were as dirty coming out as when I put them in. LG customer service was very nice and seemed efficient enough. They sent a repair man who came within about a week. But alas, we needed parts--the last one (door seal, because evidently they knew mine would be damaged during the repair) would not be in for another 30 days. So I had to go almost 2 months--though Thanksgiving and Christmas--with no dishwasher (and I hosted Thanksgiving here!). By January of 2008, with the last part still not in, LG agreed to replace the dishwasher. Since they no longer made the model I had, I got the "newest" model. Well, here it is January 8th of 2009--one year later--and guess what? I've now got water sitting in the bottom of my dishwasher! I am frustrated beyond belief at this company & had I known this, I probably would have refused their replacement and gone ahead and bought a GE. If I call LG again about this problem, it will only be to tell them what a LOUSY product they have!

This machine just won’t finish a wash cycle. Fifteen to twenty minutes into the wash, it shuts down and starts flashing the letters “PF” on the display panel. “PF” stands for POWER FAILURE. Urgh. We researched it online and discovered that this particular make and model of dishwasher is prone to this glitch

We purchased 4 new appliances from Local Dealer who said they were excellent quality. They definitely were not the cheapest. Last Sat. the dishwasher started leaking on the lower left hand corner. I looked and cannot find a bad seal and there has been no damage. Just 1month after 2 year warranty. Icalled the dealer and he gave me the numbers for repairmen, same story from LG. Guess I donot feeel right about handing over more dough. when I just shelled out thousnds to them 2 years ago.

This dishwater is CRAP! Since having the LE error code pop up, standing water in the floor of the crap, the screeching, and dinging, I have contacted the 800 number to be treated like crap by their customer service people, notified my usual handyman who can't figure it out yet, and am now totally anti LG. I have had this dishwater for less than 3 years. It started it out great. It looked great. It sounded great, i.e. quiet. It seems to me that the manufacturer should be more than amenable to replacing this appliance until they figure out where they went wrong. I think this is the ONLY way to save face and this product. Until they do so, right now I am feeling compelled to warn as many people as possible, in as many ways as possible, not to buy ANY of their products.

I have had exactly the same experience kv... It is just out of warranty, a few weeks. The estimate to fix it is 485.00. I asked them to give me a break. I have one of their washers and dryers, and have had nothing but trouble. They obviously have serious design flaws. Just as a note... the LG repairman told me to buy a Bosch. Where are the class action suits for the dishwasher?

My LG dishwasher model LDS5811WW is just 2 weeks past the warranty. It has always worked well. Last week, it started making loud grinding noises as it went through the cycle. Those eventually went away. Now, the machine goes through to about 53 minutes, then starts dinging and OE appears. I believe that means the machine is not draining properly. I have called the 1-800 number, and waited for over an hour with no one answering the phone. Local repair seems very reluctant to come and look at the machine - haven't even got back to me about the machine. I am a bit at my wits' end.

I purchased an LG Dishwasher Model# LDS5811BB on 9/30/07 from Home Depot and installed by Home Depot. Less than 4 months later it was not working and the customer support then was fine from LG. It was repaired, they replaced the motor sump assembly and main control board and worked ok till last month (Jan 09). LG's Owners Manual book says 1 year labor and 2 year coverage for parts. I called the LG Customer Service number and have got nothing but a runaround. 1st Phone call I talk to the customer support person and he tells me to call the authorized repair dealer and schedule a repair. Ok so I call the repair place and they tell me they need a work order number from LG. 2nd phone call to LG same day, sounded like same representative and he says he will send the work order to the repair place. (Next day), I call repair place, no work order. 3rd phone call to LG and still sounded like the same representative from day before, he says my warranty is out, I tell him same thing 1 year labor, 2 years parts. The representative tells me I need to FAX the page from inside LG's own Owners Manual that shows 1 year labor and 2 years parts, a copy of the reciept, and the customer invoice from Home Depot, which I did. 4th Phone call back same day, representative tells me FAX must come from a different department and it may take a day for them to get it and soon as they get it it they will send a work order to the repair place. That was over three weeks ago. On 02/13/09 I called the repair place again and guess what, still no work order number. I guess LG figures if they can delay me till SEP 09 they can really say my warranty is out.

I have an LG model LDS5811WW that is about 2.5 years old and it worked great until two weeks ago. The wash cycle takes FOREVER(3 + hours) and I'm getting no error codes. I've been on an appliance repair website looking for anyone who's had similar issues to no avail. I would prefer to repair myself as the parts seem to be avail. from an online applince parts site I've used before but I just can't pinpoint the exact cause. After reading comments here I'm considering buttoning it back up and washing dishes by hand for a while.

I purchased LG LDS5811WW 6/24/2006 from Best Buy. I Paid $680.50 including Tax. About a year ago began getting LE Error Code. LG Customer Service assisted me in diagnosing the problem. BAD MOTOR. OK, send me one! We can't LG said you have to go through an authorized repair to get it. Found one about an hour away from where I live and had them order one $75.00 because motor NOT covered under warranty. I returned home installed motor myself and still got LE error. Called LG again!!! They said it had to be the control panel. Ok, send me one! We can't you'll have to go through your authorized repair to get that and trade in your existing one. Did that and brought home WRONG Control Board!!! Come to find out LG used several different Control Boards for LDS5811WW! Why didn't they explain this to me when they had me and the authorized repairman on the phone??? Finally got the right control board and installed it. LE Error Still!!!!! I was really upset it has been 2 months waiting for parts numerous phone calls to LG Customer Support totally an astronomical amount of HOURS trying to find out what was wrong. I finally found a blog on the internet about faulty wiring in the door and the spray in lining LG used to insulate the front panel. The wire harness was stuck into the lining and had ripped the wire going to the circulation pump creating an LE Error.

Spoke with LG about the issue they denied knowing anything about this!!! Funny when others have reported the same problem and still NO SERVICE BULETIN HAS BEEN WRITTEN and LG still denies a recall on this model!!! This is Crap.

I spoke with LG today regarding the upper and lower drawers rusting already! They are still under a 5 year waranty and they seem to be sending me new ones. We'll see if they send the right part!!!

While I had the Customer Service Representative on the phone I started telling him the History on My UNIT and all the frustrations went through over a broken wire. I asked him to research if there was a SERVICE BULLETIN as of Today! Still NO... Why are they denying that this Unit had a Wiring issue and refuse to send a new harness under warranty or replace the whole unit all together?

They are eventually going to have everybody hating LG products over a few bad ones. Overall LG seems to be a great product when it’s working there service dept. needs to keep better records and inform people better when trying to trouble shoot their error codes.

The 3rd time they replaced the pump almost as a matter of fact. It still doesn't work and and they claim nothing is wrong. There only resolution they offer is to send another service person out but tell me if they find nothing wrong they will charge me. Thi company has no concept of customer service. LG Sucks!

Jim  says:

I bought my LG dishwasher 3 years ago for $900. I liked the way it looked as well as all the bells and whistles.

My wife loved the quietness of this unit and how well it worked.....worked being the key word here!

After 11 months of this appliance, we started to notice that water was starting to remain on the bottom of the pan. LG could not find anyone to come out and repair our dishwasher for 2 weeks. When the repairman arrived, he was clueless to these units. He came back the next day with what he thought were the correct parts. He eventually repaired the unit and we were off and running....or so we thought.

2 weeks later I noticed the floor starting to buckle around our table in the dining room. I started to pull up my floor to find out what was going on and traced it back to the dishwasher. During the rinse cycle, water was coming out of the overflow spout on the door and getting underneath of wood floors.

After several calls and many, many months of fighting with LG they finally accepted full responsibility for all of the damage.

The first call took place in January and they delivered our new dishwasher in August. It has been over a year since we got it and we have to wash everything on strong sterile mode to get the dishes washed.

The good news was that I also took legal action for the damages to the floor and filed a complaint with their legal team. After 4 months of documenting the troubles and making sure that I had taken pictures of all the damage, they sent me a check for $6000 to repair my floors and get everything back the way it was.

The key here folks is that if are having trouble with your appliance, make sure you keep good records of when you called, who you spoke with, the name of the person from the repair service, take pictures of any damage and never let the repairman take the broken pieces with them. That is evidence that you can never get back.

I also bought an LG Dishwasher and had it fail on me at 363 days into the 1 year warrantly. They tried to tell us that it would take too long to get a repairman ou to fix it so it really wouldn't be under warranty at that point. Of course, we didn't take that for an answer. We had the motor replaced. Two months later the pump was replaced. Now, about 6 months later the machine is screetching really high pitched (supposed to be one of the quietest machines on the market) and water pools on the bottom of the dishwasher. I feel like a fool for buying this machine. It was the most expensive one on for sale at Home Depot.

Our LG dishwasher, about three years old, started displaying the LE error code -- first only occasionally, then it's all we got. Also, the unit, when working, had been a little noisier than before -- it was whining, not it's usual quiet self. Tried unplugging if for half an hour (recommended as the first step) to no avail. But when I removed the front panel and rooted around in the bundle of wires, sure enough there was a broken one. The wires tend to embed in the tacky black insulation, which degrades the wires, eventually causing them to break. Spliced the broken wire and voila, it works fine (and is quiet again -- for whatever reason). It's not great design, obviously, but it was an easy fix.

Double duped! We purchased two LDS5810ST Dishwashers in 02/06. The day after delivery, one of the dishwashers was leaking water from the left side of the door. LG said it wasn't balanced properly, and sent the installation guys back out to balance. 6 months later both were leaking. Both have had the drain hose replaced (not necessary), the pumps replaced (not necessary), both still leaking, and kitchen floor is buckled. I had a new repairman out today, and he found the leak problem inside the door of both machines. He said LG has redesigned the parts because of this chronic leak problem. I am asking LG to send me the parts free, since this is a design error, and it is the same problem in both machines. LG hasn't answered my request yet, but did remind me that I am out of warranty. Can design flaws really be out of warranty? I have also filed a claim for my floors. I really miss my 20 year oid Kitchenaide dishwashers. What ever happened to made in the good old USA!

You can add me too as a fool who bought a LG dishwasher, worked great for the year under warranty and now it leaks all over the floor, serviceman says it wasn't level, so he leveled it, still leaking, says he can replace the door for $489 as it must be the door seal and they don't replace just the seal, are you kidding me!

Our LDF7810ww dishwasher had small amounts water leaking out of the lower left of the front door after 3 excellent years of use. It also started to growl during cycles and would be come quiet if I added a couple of quarts of water to it when the growling started. I removed the bottom panel and found a thick brown syrup like sticky goo had gathered and slowly flowed around the inside of its upper suface. I can't tell where it came from but there is evidence of some slight water leakage from the components just above the panel with spots of the brown goo here an there on the components above the panel. There are no error codes except for an E1 just once some time ago that has appeared only once. I'm wondering if the goo came from one of the motors. I haven't called a repair man yet because of all of the reports of incompetence on their part reported above. Since I am a handy man of sorts, I have downloaded the repair manual and am sifting my way through it trying to make some sense of the symptoms. I have confirmed that the drainage, and inlet water supply and inlet solenoid valve are working correctly. I have also disassembled everything I could from the inside of the dish washer and all is ok, unclogged, and not worn or broken. All the seals appear to be good. Has any one else experienced the brown gooey surup like excretion on their floor under the dishwasher or bottom panel too? Would like to hear about it if you do. Will let you know what I find as I unravel the causes of the things I am experiencing with our disappointing LG dishwasher. We bought it because it was so quiet. I cleaned the dishes well. Until now, we were very satisfied with it and the $1000+ price tag that came with it. I hope I will be able to get the parts I need when I know what to order.

Piece of Crap product!! We have a few LG products in the house, NEVER AGAIN!! They are poor quailty and dont last for very long. Over priced and absolutely crap!

And the dishwasher !! Argh, 2nd time we are having a problem with it. Forst time I paid $300 to get the stupud motor repaired and now its showing up OE on rinse cycle at 54min and 45min. It IS draining, Underlying proble by the looks of things. I have a feeling its going to be another expense that I refuse to pay for - Id rather buy a PROPER dishwasher. Not LG crap!

STAY AWAY FROM LG!

Owned Kitchen Aid for 11 years. Worked perfectly with no problem. Stupidly decided to replace with LG LDS5811BB for quieter operations. Machine failed 3 times in less than 3 years. Repairmen were unreliable and useless. Now it caused flooding due to leakage. Shit product. I also have a LG humidifier and that is crap also. NEVER BUY LG.

Have an LG with the LE error code and water standing in the bottom pan. Tried resetting. Still doesn't work. Every 2 years they have to come out and repair a problem. I'll keep posting to let everyone know the outcome this time.

I found out what was wrong with my LG LDF7810WW dishwasher after posting the symptoms here a week ago. I completely disassembled it , cleaned , inspected, and tested everything. All motors, switches, wiring, and items tested electrically ok with flying colors. I ordered a few key gaskets and seals. Then I put it all back together in my garage while suspending it up 3 feet off the floor on a 2 X 4 stud frame. This allowed observing the leaks and growling noises from all angles while it washed a full cycle of dishes. I am posting the corrective measures here in case it will help any one else that has similar problems. The one thing I could not find was a Serial number or a model number on my dishwasher. Where is it? The user’s manual has quite a few model numbers on the front of it, but there isn’t anything I can find on the frame or the inside of the door that tells me just what mine is! I disassembled the whole thing and saw nothing! So I am guessing my dishwasher might be an LDF7810WW model! There was a dark syrup like gew in the bottom panel under the motors. It was water soluble and smelled sweet like pancake syrup. I decided that it must be something that was spilled in there some how and it is not an LG fault. The growling noise was apparently due to low water level caused by clogged floats on the left side of the unit under the left panel cover in plastic boxes. I cleaned out the gunk in the plastic housings and the floats go up and down freely now. They determine the upper and lower levels of water from what I can tell by actuating micro switches inside their assemblies. Since the water level was low, I was getting an E1 error code (water leak indication), as the dish washer assumed the water was leaking water out somewhere instead of not ever being there in the first place. The next item: There were occasional water leaks at the lower left corner of the door. This was due to three things: The seal around the dryer intake hole in the upper inside center of the door was leaking. A leak in the connection between the 2 plastic dryer assemblies inside the left portion of the door behind the front panel cover, and the seal under the front door between the door and the bottom of the dishwasher stainless steel surface (it is crimped into the stainless bottom of the dishwasher and doesn’t appear to be replaceable). I screwed an aluminum square tube 1” square stiffener to the back of the plastic assembly in the upper inside of the door so that when it presses down on the dryer plastic motor assembly, it pushes it securely against the door frame. Without the stiffener, the plastic assembly holding the main control circuit board, and door switch bends a little and doesn’t hold the dryer assembly fast in place allowing the seal to leak from time to time. I also added two additional home made seals made from plastic ¾” gray flex conduit lengths. These were slit down the middle lengthwise on one side and wedged onto the inside of the door lower inside structural panel edges to prevent splashed water from escaping down onto the floor. The last corrective measure: I applied water sealant to the connection between the two dryer plastic assemblies inside the door to eliminate the dripping water from them. They won’t come apart easily in the future, but I don’t really care about that. They are still easily removable as one large piece. I found the quality of construction of the dishwasher to be excellent and felt as though I was working on a Rolls Royce that had a leaking radiator and flat tires. I know LG can do a better job of making their dishwashers more dependable, but I have a lot of respect for many construction items they did very well. Unfortunately, a few mistakes negates their excellent quality and workmanship.

We purchased an LG dishwasher in January of 2006 when remodeling our kitchen. We loved the quiet operation and additional features offered in the model LDS5811. My husband and I are retired so the dishwasher does not get heavy use and now we learn that the pump needs to be replaced at a cost of $400. It may have been quiet but it did not clean that well, and, from what I read here, replacing the pump now may just lead to needing to replace the pump again in future. So we'll junk this number and go to more tried and true brands as we research a replacement. We had planned to buy a new frig, but can guarantee it will not be an LG product. I've had dishwashers that lasted for 20 years...grrrr

I have an LDF7811ST, 3 years old. Started giving Error LE a few weeks ago. It would take starting machine at least 6 or 8 times before it would continue the cycle. I read the posts here and noticed the comments about broken wires in the door. Thought I would give that a check since, based on the experiences here, contacting LG did not seem to be an efficient or productive way to begin. IT WORKED!! It was simple to remove the door. 10 screws and it came right off. Sure enough the wires were stuck to the spray in black lining and lo and behold one grey wire broken but barely completing connection because it was imbedded in liner. Two other wires crimped quite badly with torn sheaths. Looks like something pressed down on the wires during manufacture. Picked up some butt splicers from hardware store for a couple bucks and repaired all three wires and put back together. Works fine now! I would definitely recommend this to anyone with the LE error. It's probably a common problem accross many models since it happened at the factory. Thanks to all who posted, it has saved me alot of grief (for now). I will certainly not buy anything LG in the future based on the comments here and our bad experience with an LG refrigerator also.

Called LG on our LDS 5811ST dishwasher because of LE code. Bought it about 2 years ago from Home Depot...The wanted my receipt...not gonna happen...I don't keep receipts so I was just going to throw it away and start over because about a year ago I had it apart and put WD 40 on the whinning motor. Also the front leaked onto our hardwood floor...so I messed with the vent seal and stopped the leak. So the newest LE code was the last straw. However I found a motor for $90 and decided to give it a shot and maybe save a couple of bucks....then ran across this forum and saw the broken wire dicussion. Took the cover off ...BINGO a broken Grey wire completely in two and another frayed. Repaired them both and it works. Bottom Line the dishwasher has some serious engineering problems...basically its a piece of shit. I have all LG appliance and I will never again buy another LG product not even a cell phone. Take that you unsimpathetic "Lifes Good" piece of shit!

Remolded my kitchen bought all new stainless LG appliances in 9/06, look good, but don't work well. My dishwasher broke down within 2 months of the installation. Called LG customer service line had a repair man sent out he could not figure out the problem then another was sent out and two repair men were sent and they said it was the pump, it was replaced. The dishwasher never seemed to work properly I would have to put it on again for a second wash. I spent $799 on this dishwasher at Home Depot, it is the worst product I have ever purchased. Michael Ahn should be ashamed of representing such a faulty product. When talking to customer service they said that the product does not warrant a recall since it is just a small percentage of people complaining. My dishwasher is now out of warranty now it is not working at all. I had a service tech come out and he said it was the control board and all the wiring was fried. He said it could have started a fire. I called LG and they will cover the control board but not the wiring. That makes no sense to me at all, the wire is connected to the control board which is all fried. There should be a Lemon Law for faulty products sold. I work hard for my money and I would not think a big corporation like LG would take advantage of so many consumers and just not care. I will never purchase an LG product again. I will now research all future products before I purchase anything again. I have learned a valuable lesson. Life is good for LG and not it's consumers. Buyer be ware should be the logo for LG.

I'd love to see a class action against LG for what they have put most of us through with their poor engineering. What I learned is that LG stands for Looks Good. I purchased my dishwasher for about $900 because of: quiet, "great customer service", reliability, etc. The Best Buy appliance manager highly recommended my model when I told him I have severe spine issues and don't want to repair appliances myself. BTW, I grew up near Kitchen Aid HQ in Illinois, and they made a product back in the 70s that NEVER failed for my parents in over 20 years, and the house I sold in CA still had a running unit since the 70s as well. Anyway, Best Buy dude recommended not getting an extended warranty because "if" it would fail ,it would fail within the warranty period. Ha ha. It failed just before Thanksgiving a month AFTER the labor warranty expired. After a livid conversation with LG management, LG agreed to cover it. The repairman replaced the motor and wiring harness. I should mention that I have a degree in manufacturing and therefore have more than a casual understanding of design. The wiring harness was attached to the door rigidly, and this unnecessarily fatigues the wires during the hinging affect while the door is opened and closed. That caused the motor to fail electrically...the first motor. It took three weeks to get the parts. There was a grinding sound I heard from the new motor about a month later, but the repairman returned and insisted that it was just the macerator (mini garbage disposal feature in the bottom) grinding food. Unknowingly time went by and my dishwasher leaked into the floor, which happens to be my basement ceiling. I could not figure out where the water was coming from for many months. Then the dishwasher died...again. So, with the unit out of warranty for parts and labor, I took it apart and called the repair firm to get a ballpark for repair costs based on my best guess. Because I live in the Rocky Mountains, there is a minimum surcharge of $110 to come to where I live, about 18 miles from Colorado Springs, and the total would be about $500 to $575. WHAT???? Are you crazy? So I called LG and filled a grievance. Their solution was to cover the parts, but (even though I worked as a service technician for four years) the part had to be installed by their authorized repairman. When I had taken the unit out myself I discovered that the seal in the bottom of the sump well had gone bad, and leaked into both my basement and into motor #2. The motor bearing had seized. So that grinding noise I had heard early on was a failing bearing. And the best part is that the repairman could have replaced that seal while the unit was under warranty. The seal, unfortunately, is embedded into the sump housing, which means that replacement of the whole housing is required. I paid $200 for a sump housing/motor assembly. That's motor number three in under three years. All seemed well, for several weeks, but, and yet again, I am getting a new LE code when we attempt the soak cycle. Folks, I am disgusted. I won't put a knee into LG products as one poster described, but I really am ready to jump on board with a class actions lawsuit.

I LOVE everything about my LG dishwasher model LDF6810ST except the fact that it no longer operates! Yes, we got the dreaded LE code, which the LG rep says indicates "Motor unit blocked. Requires service." Duh. Question: Why isn't the LE code listed in the manual on the problem solving page?

Everyone's blogs have been enlightening. The only thing I will be doing related to LG is waiting to see how long our side by side LG refrigerator purchased at the same time lasts. Oh, I would definitely join a class action suit against LG regarding this specific issue.

By the way, our dishwasher is one month shy of three years old.

I too got the dreaded LE code, and the manual said it was a water inlet problem. After reading this blog I took off 6 screws the connected the the outer skin of the door with the inner door (The screws were on the inside of the door panel and it was very simple to get off. Unscrew the screws and it slides down just a bit, and the it will come off (You will have to pull the insulation away from the door, don't worry, this wont affect the operations of your dishwasher, even if it isn't the wires. Once the outer door skin is off, pull the insulation (White wool looking stuff) from the unit beginning at the upper right side going from right to left. You should expose all the wires during this process. The wires on my unit were pushed down into the black sound proofing material and one of the wires was broken in two, for me it was a purple wire, but I could imagine it being a lot of different ones. I pulled it to get slack so I could splice the wires back together, spliced it and then wrapped it with electrical tape, put it back together, and it worked once again. I would recommend to anyone that if you get a code on your control panel and there has been nothing out of the ordinary before this, then check your wires first. ***CAUTION*** If you are not familiar with electricity and don't understand the basic principles of hot wires and completing the circuit means, then please ask a friend that may be able to help. The entire fix took less than 15 minutes.

Like others, I do have the same problem with this LG dishwasher model. First, I had LE error. So the repair man said is the pump, he orderd the pump and after a month he tried to fix it. Then, he relized is the harnes, so I waited another month. The part was free, but I had to pay $239 for service. The service man said it should be recall for this part and I should not pay for the labor. I called LG Service Deprt., they gave me fax # to send invoice and copy of my payment for the service. Next month I called, they said they did not received, so I faxed again. Nothing happend, so I called LG again and i was told that the person who athorized reimursmend is no longer with the company and ther is no recall so I have to paid for labor. Ironically, my dishwasher still does not work The arms to not rotate, so 3 year old machine cot me $800 + 239 and is a lemon :))

My 3 year old LDF7811ST has the LE code. I totally agree with Diane Sengbusch; why isn't the LE code in the manual? I called LG who apologized and said LE = motor failure. Time for a new dishwasher- it isn't worth repair.

I have also replaced bottom rack and tines which snap.
