LTTE
65We sometimes criticize others without knowing the history.
We will be doing injustice to the world if we discuss anything about LTTE and its freedom struggle before fully reading and knowing its history.
Half knowledge is no knowledge and our views will not be respected and accepted.
Thus when discussing about LTTE and to know about LTTE it is important to know the profile of LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran.
The full profile is in the link below.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) commonly known as the Tamil Tigers, is a militant Tamilnationalist organization that has waged a violent secessionist campaign against the SriLankan government since the 1970s in order to create a sovereign socialist Tamilstate in the north and east of SriLanka (formerly known as Ceylon) which has developed into the Sri Lankan Civil War. It is headed by its founder, VelupillaiPrabhakaran.
YEAR 1990'S
LTTE had a good support base both in Tamilnadu and karnataka, everything went fine for them, funds were flowing both from Tamilnadu and Karntaka, LTTE supporters were staging dramas in Karnataka and Tamilnadu. The actors played their parts superb. For example the autrocities that were being meted out to Tamils in Sri Lanka were bought in front of the audience with awesome reality. The player who was acting as a Srilankan military soldier just kicked and thrashed the player who was acting as the minority Srilankan tamils.
The other donor countries during that periods were spread over US, Japan, EU, along with India, Canada and some other countries.
It was almost certain that the war was about to come to an end and a separate Eelam was to be born.
The then SriLankan president Jayawardhane who saw this tacitly entered into an agreement with ???????
Here ... I like to stop writing..
Then LTTE did this blunder of Killing Rajiv Gandhi. Or was it a blunder or self-defense, there seemed to be who takes on first whom. Rajiv Gandh let loose his people to kill Prabhakaran and Prabhakaran his. Or either of them did not ask their people to do the act.
Find out what Major General Harkirat Singh (Retd.) has to say.
LTTE who were hitherto recognised as freedom fighters for Tamil Eelam were were branded as terrorists.
Year 2009
Lakhs of civilians are under the control of Prabhakaran, with no supporting voice from outside world it seems these Tamils may die in so many ways. It could be because of diseases, famine and every other ways that could be imagined. Maybe they may take to arms too to die a brave death. It looks almost certain that there is no way that these lakhs of tamil civilian people can survive and live under Sinhala government. Probably these civilians may have decided to die rather then live under the promises of Sinhala Government. Since the history speaks that they have been living as slaves under the Sinhala Government before.
So end of lakhs of Tamilians lives seems to be in the offing at the hands of mighty Srilankan militiary force.
In a way the Sri Lankan Government itself is becoming a terrorist Government. Or is it that America is acting behind all this. It seems so. America through Rajapakshe is committing these terrorist acts on Sri LankanTamils. As usual India is fully supporting it by giving arms and ammunitions to Sri Lankan Army. Indian Government has no feelings of huge tamil population in Tamilnadu. It is to be seen in the coming General Elections which pary takes on which sides and how Congress fares in this election.
Sri Lankan issue will become a major political issue and the parties that will score on this could be PMK, MDMK and DMK. DMK's future now lies if it snaps ties with congress. MDMK would score better if it snaps ties with AIADMK. If PMK, MDMK and DMK fights on one side then it might be that they will sweep the Lok Sabha polls. In this election it is expected that Congress might face the worst defeat followed by AIADMK.
There is a media black-out of the genocides that is being committed on Tamils in Sri Lanka.
So what is really happening in the land of Sri Lanka.... Here are some links I came accross while browsing which are believable.
Former UN diplomat urges global attention on Sri Lanka
Jan Egeland, the former UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, in a commentary article published in a leading newspaper in Norway on Saturday has called for world attention on forgotten conflicts where situation has deteriorated while the focal point of the world was centered on Gaza. "With catastrophic consequences to an already exhausted civilian population, the army of Sri Lanka has taken upon the guerrilla controlled areas," he writes.
"In Gaza, as well as in Sri Lanka, the elected governments wish to crush the resistance movements – which have used abhorrent terror – but also enjoy peoples' support. In both the places, the government forces are engaged in widespread violations on peoples rights. In both the cases one attempts keep the international media and other witnesses away. And, there ends the comparison," writes Jan Egeland, who was also a former secretary general of the Norwegian Red Cross. "Any rocket explosion in the sand of Israel or a building in Gaza becomes international news, while the entire townships that fall after heavy and bloody fighting in Sri Lanka don't get mentioned [in the news]." Bringing also in other conflict examples such as the crisis of Congo, West Sahara, Somalia and Burma, Mr. Egeland, who is now director of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), says that the hope of the Palestinians, Israelis, and the people of Middle East was that having huge media attention would finally lead to an effective pressure on the parties that cause misery for themselves and for their neighbours and argues that also the 'forgotten conflicts' call for global attention.

Delhi students on hunger strike to protest Colombo's war
Students from different universities and colleges in New Delhi, joined by lawyers, teachers and human rights activists held a one day hunger strike Saturday expressing solidarity with Tamil people in Vanni, and protesting against the "onslaught on Tamil people in a unilateral war declared by the Sri Lanka military with a tacit understanding of the Indian Government," organizers of the event said.
Another section of students on hunger strike
"The minority Tamils have been struggling for their self-respect and self-determination for the last almost 30 years. Lakhs of them have been killed or eliminated. Millions of them have become refugees in their own land. The hunger strike started at 10:00 a.m. continued till 5:00 p.m, through the hunger strike we want to send a strong message to the Sri Lankan government led by Mahinda Rajapakse," a media release issued by the protesters said. Urging the Indian Government not to "play diplomacy with the blood of Tamils," and pointing out that the "Sinhala government is not ready to provide a political solution," the students put forward the following demands:
- From this platform we demand to stop the war with immediate effect and seek and search ways and means for a political solution.
- The Indian government should warn the Sri Lankan government in no uncertain terms to stop the war openly.
- The Indian government should stop giving our tax money for killing our own brothers and sisters – call back all the military personals Immediately.
- As a symbol of commitment to the human rights call back all the diplomats from Sri Lanka to condemn genocidal human rights violation.
- The UN must step in and stop the genocidal war against the Tamils in the two nation island.
- We demand that the political parties in TN should stop playing politics with the Sri Lankan issue instead they should untidily fight against for safeguarding the Tamils in Sri Lanka and fight against the alienation and marginalisation of Tamils by the majority Sinhalese.
Intent of Genocide provable in Sri Lanka - Fein
Bruce Fein, former U.S. Deputy Associate Attorney General and currently counsel for the US-based group Tamils Against Genocide, addressing a select gathering of media persons and intellectuals organized by the Max Foundation in Chennai Friday, told the audience that there is enough evidence to criminally convict U.S. citizen Gotabaya Rajapakse and U.S. Green card holder Lt.Gen. Sarath Fonseka in the U.S. Federal Courts for "intent to commit Genocide" in Sri Lanka, sources from Chennai said.
Displaying copies of the 1000-page indictment document he had prepared, Fein said, "irrespective of the nationality of the victim or the defendant, egregious crimes including cases of extrajudicial killings can be tried in the US courts, and I hope the criminal prosecution against the genocide will provide the launching pad for ensuring the civil rights of the Tamil people," and elaborated on how he would prove "intent" of genocide. Mr. Fein said that Sri Lanka was a unique nation whose history reveals an ongoing cultural genocide, adding, "the myths of the Mahavamsa say that Sri Lanka belongs to no one but the Sinhalese, and the text celebrates kings for slaughtering Tamils. Secondly, the teachings of Dharmapala, celebrate the purity of the Aryan race and establish the idea of racial supremacy. Because Dharmapala is as sacred to the Sinhalese as Jesus to the Christians, the Sinhalese believe and act with the notion of racial supremacy. This legacy is being continued by Sinhalese Buddhist monks and this legacy is used by Buddhists in classrooms in the South, as an instruction in genocide.
Fein also pointed out that this was one of the reasons why Buddhist monks launched protests against peace on the island and continuously agitated against the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) from 2002-2008. He claimed that the trajectory of politics on the island has also been dictated by the religious and chauvinist elements. The politicians who expressed willingness to address Tamil grievances were assassinated. During the civil rights movement in the United States, significant number of whites openly protested against the oppression of the colored people. But in Sri Lanka, the dissent is not tolerated, he said. Mr. Fein also compared the Black July of 1983 with the current situation faced by Tamils in the Northeast. In July 1983, 4000 people were massacred in a state-sponsored carnage that took place over four days and several thousand people were displaced. But today, while we cannot point out to any single mass-scale killings, genocide is taking place every day, he said, adding that all acts of killing from November 2005 to December 2008 had been documented. In the three year period under Rajapaksa regime there have been nearly 3000 extra-judicial killings, an average of 3 civilian killings every day, he said. There has been no investigation or prosecution. Failure to prosecute the killers is a proof of genocide, he said. "Nearly 189 military camps have come up in Tamil areas and no one could wriggle even a finger there without the permission of the Lankan military," Fein said, adding "Governments complicity in the killings is clear as the crimes take place in Government-controlled area. Gotabhaya and Fonseka are aware who committed the crimes but failed to order investigations and allowed complete impunity to the soldiers and paramilitaries to carry out the crimes." Speaking about the white-van abductions, Fein observed that there had been more than 3000 documented cases of disappearances. There have also been more than 1000 cases of bombings causing serious bodily injury, however no Tamil has been given any compensation for the suffering undergone.
Finally, Mr. Fein charged the Sri Lankan Government for creating conditions of life that gave Tamils no opportunity but to die, or to live at the mercy of the Government. By denying food, by stealing Tsunami relief, the Government ensured that people live in semi-starvation and more than 80% of the children suffered from malnutrition. He also blamed the government for preventing supply of medicines and said, "Sri Lanka must be the only government in the wold which wants its people to die from epidemics. It is the only government in the world that ships banned product to its people. There are no hospitals, there is no proper treatment facilities, there are no ambulances. Bullock carts serve as ambulances, and medicine has been pushed to the stone-age, he charged. Fein also said that every Tamil in the North-East has been displaced at least once and that presently 1.3 million Tamils had been displaced. He blamed the Sri Lankan Government for cutting off all communication from the Tamil areas by expelling the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, UN agencies and foreign NGOs. He said that one of the objectives of the genocide prosecution is to unify the Tamils worldwide. "There can be no difference of opinion over the fact that what is happening to Tamils in Sri Lanka is a clear-cut case of genocide," he said. Fein said that he will deliver the model indictment US Secretary of State, the Attorney General and selected members of the Congress after he returns to the US. Even as the US is pre-occupied with seriousl foreign policy matters dealing with Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gaza strip, Fein added that the American Government cannot stay blind to genocide when a US citizen is accused of that crime. He said that the Sri Lanka Government had gained military upper-hand by using the doctrine of "war on terror" against the ethnic conflict. But, when the genocide was exposed in the international forum, this would automatically lay the basis for providing a just and equitable solution to the Tamils, he said. He also observed that there were a few positive signals from the International Community: Sri Lanka had been rejected from the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the British Parliament had discussed the need for a ceasefire in the war-torn island. Fein also said that one had to look for cracks in the Sinhalese-Buddhist polity. He emphasized the importance of finding support among these sections to advance the Tamil project. Sri Lankan government is attempting to muzzle Sinhalese critics through death-threats and the use of brute force, which clearly showed that the Government lacked legitimacy. In conclusion, Bruce Fein said that Socrates who chose death in order to make life better for those yet to be born inspired him. Later, responding to questions from the media, how the Sri Lankan Government using the counter-terrorism was committing atrocities including the massacre of women and children. He labelled the Government of Sri Lanka's genocidal program as the "crime of crimes." When asked how this issue could be brought into the spotlight, the US former Deputy Associate Attorney General said that this could be done by focussing on American legal system. Gotabhaya would be the first US citizen in history to be tried for genocide. Fonseka would be the only green-card holder accused of the same crime. That would give this case worldwide publicity and the trial would grab the international media's attention, he said. Responding to a question on how Tamils would get justice within the framework of the Sri Lankan Constitution which did not even allow for a federal state, Bruce Fein said that the Sri Lankan State had disrespected every piece of paper that tried to enshrine and protect Tamil rights. Even Article 29 had been dishonoured. Moreover, even a new Constitution could be repealed the very next day, and the Sri Lankan Supreme Court would support the same, he said. "There is no legitimate security for Tamil people without sovereignty," he added. The anti-Congress mood prevalent in Tamil Nadu came to the fore when there was a barrage of questions targeting the Indian Government. When asked about the Indian Government's inaction to the humanitarian tragedy, and the proxy war that India was waging, Bruce Fein said that his silence would be the best answer to such a broad question. Asked to comment n the Indian Government's inaction when Indian fishermen where being killed by the Sri Lanka Navy, Mr.Fein replied that these instances proved the landlessness of the Sri Lankan Government which wanted to shoot down anyone who vaguely resembled a Tamil. Finally, when asked what a sustainable final solution to Sri Lanka would be, Bruce Fein said that nothing was ever fixed and this applied to national boundaries also. The only way in which peaceful existence between the Sinhalese Buddhists and the Tamils on the island could be ensured was to carve out a separate state for the Tamils. "The important point to remember is that the rights of the Tamils have been dishonoured for the past sixty years. The Tamil people are being subjected to oppression, and they are made to live in fear every moment of their lives. To ask the Tamils to live along with the Sinhalese within unified Sri Lanka would be as disastrous as asking Blacks in the USA to go back to being slaves to the Whites." Dr. Ezhilan, President of the Max Foundation which organized the meeting, spoke about the need for Indians and the International Community to react to the genocide as human beings, by displaying support and sympathy towards the Eezham Tamils.

- Washington’s role in the Sri Lankan state’s anti-Tamil war
The brief interval last week between the US repudiation of the “peace process” and the Colombo government’s ban on the LTTE exemplifies Washington’s role—as both instigator and facilitator—in Sri Lanka’s communal war.

Personal Appeal - The only solution
I make a personal appeal to the whole world to stand up and ask Sri Lankan government to call for a ceasefire.
Then let all the civilians be asked to move over to Tamilnadu since there is no guarantee for their lives if they shift to Sri Lankan Government sponsored shelters as said by Jaffna University Students.
Later when these shifts are over, the Sri Lankan Government can again go about on war with the LTTE.
- Sri Lanka: LTTE, government endangering lives of tens of thousands of newly displaced around Wanni |
Thousands of families who fled the recent fighting between Sri Lankan forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) must be allowed to move to safer areas and to receive necessary humanitarian assistance, Amnesty International said today.
Oh! my God... I too believed so...
Sri Lanka's Army chief's rejoiced telling to the media that 95% of the war is now over after capturing Mullaithivu.
I thought, yes it should be true.... I thought somehow Prabhakaran might flee until I read the below article.
Oh! my God it is only the First phase of war that is over and now it is the turn of Sri Lankan Army that is stationed in the whole of North and East which are in danger.
Later the Sri Lankan Goverment seems to be in danger itself due to the Global Economic Recession.
Till now we were playing war games in computers. But here we see the real Guirella warfare that is in the offing.
The second Phase of war is on the threshold.
Probably there is a sin looming largely on Sri Lanka Island where the war as to go on with neither of them winning it.
I can't say that Vasantha Raja is wrong, his below article is a true prediction about the things that are going to happen. Oh! my God.

There can be no second thoughts about the sins committed by India in denying LTTE the required help that is required in fighting for independence. Instead of helping the LTTE facing persecution by Rajapakshe, India offered to help the criminal perpetrators of genocide. India has deviated complely from its declared policy towards oppessed and persecuted. Ignoring the sentiments of a State in the Indian Union, helping the tyrant of a neighbouring country may have far-reaching consequences.
